  1. And no information either. You'd think Pat and Ron would mention something to let the "viewers" know what's going on.
  2. My bad luck with pitching decisions continues. Yesterday I start Davis, and he puts up -10. Today I sit Garland, and he puts up 31. ](*,)
  3. 75 years ago today (or yesterday, depending on time zone) Babe Ruth, finishing his career with the Boston Braves, hit 3 home runs. They were not only the final HRs of his career, he never even had another hit of any kind. He retired 6 days later.
  4. It was pointed out in the transactions thread in the Minor League forum that Patton has been reactivated by Daytona. Apparently he cleared waivers and was outrighted off of the 40-man roster.
  5. Yes, he sure stinks tonight. :D
  6. Current bid is $12,400. Somebody is going to be VERY unhappy if Strasburg becomes the next Mark Prior.
  7. For selfish reasons I'm hoping they keep him down one start longer than expected. His next start (after this weekend) would be in Durham if he's still in the minors, and that's close enough for me to go to the game.

    Week 8

First week of interdivisional play. NC Cubs(2-5) vs. Alamo Stealth (5-2) Sock it Thome (2-5) vs. Mighty D-Block (3-4) Ron Washington's Dealers (4-3) vs. Quakers (0-7) Saber Metrics (5-2) vs. Kid Rodelo (4-3) The Eyes of Texas (2-5) vs. Harrys Budcrew (6-1) Fuzzy Logistics (5-2) vs. Tootielicious (2-5) Galesburg Hand Sanitizers (6-1) vs. Lynx (5-2) Bazingas (1-6) vs. Northside Baseball (4-3)
  9. I traded my 2010 #1 draft pick last year for Miggy Cabrera, but short of a similar situation (trading for a superstar when I feel I'm in contention) I can't see myself trading that high of a pick. Not are there better players available in the draft than before the cap decrease, but it would be harder to keep the player I trade for and stay under the cap.
  10. At least for the rest of this year keeping him in the bullpen is a no-brainer. There's already an issue with excess starters (deciding who to move to the bullpen when Zambrano moves back to the rotation). You don't compound that issue further by moving Marshall to the rotation at this time. This could change in the event of a trade or injury.
  11. Indirectly I wonder if this could help the NFL in their case to suspend the Vikings players. If I recall the justification for the NFL to be bound by Minnesota law was that the players are employed by the NFL rather than the team. It seems to me that a Supreme Court ruling that the NFL is a collection of 32 entities rather than a single entity would imply that the players are employed by the teams, not the league, and thus void the Minnesota courts' jurisdiction over the case.
  12. Quite ironic, since many of Lou's decisions leave us scratching our heads.
  13. She died at 38 in 1998. The reported cause of death was suffocating in her pillow during an epileptic seizure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Griffith-Joyner
  14. You're probably thinking of Kila Ka'aihue. He was up for awhile but basically glued to the bench (1-4 with 1 RBI) and recently got sent back down.

    Week 7

Actually I think the draft order should be based on the power rankings rather than the actual standings. (I'm dead last in the power rankings despite being ahead of a couple teams in the standings, so I'd have the #1 pick at the moment. )
  16. ESPN shows it as Wells on Friday, Silva on Saturday, and Dempster on Sunday. I think Dempster on Sunday is completely set in stone (he's starting tomorrow, so that would put his next start on Sunday), but otherwise I think it's tentative. It depends on how much extra time Gorzelanny gets between starts, and with an off-day today there's some flexibility.
  17. Carlos is the silva lining in the Cubs' disappointing season. (Sorry, somebody had to say it.)
  18. Interesting that she played 10 seasons, while Dottie in the movie only played the first season.
  19. Holtzman's 1967 season was an interesting story. He was in the National Guard that year and only able to pitch in 12 games during weekend passes.
  20. Same for me. And a Cubs' win to boot.

    Week 7

That sounds good to me. I had conceded this week since I only led by a couple points going into today, and I was out of pitching starts while Rodelo had Halladay going. But somehow my team scored over 60 points without a pitching start, while Halladay proved human and had a negative outing. Suddenly I'm looking at a 2-game winning streak.
  22. Drop Sizemore and Ramirez Add Wells and Barajas

    Week 7

The order for the regular draft is set at the trading deadline (July 31). For this year the same order was used for the prospect draft, but that seems to be up for discussion going forward.
  24. Does that mean Jeff is safe? I think he's having flashbacks to 1998: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/steveda01.shtml Ye3p, for some reason I got the Stevens' mixed up. And I'm not against releasing Patton, but to me it makes no sense to DFA anybody until Guzman is first placed on the 60-day DL.
