  1. I remember speculation this past offseason was that Burrell was who the Cubs would get in a trade for Bradley. There's still plenty of time for Sliva to come back to Earth and make me change my mind, but at the moment I'm glad we got Silva rather than Burrell for MB.
  2. Hank Blalock called up from AAA Durham to replace him. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rays-burrell
  3. If this guy has a meteoric rise and gets to play at Wrigley, the press is going to have a field day. Especially if the "other" Castro is still playing well for the Cubs.
  4. I just hope he makes it into the Hall while he's still alive. With all his health problems one has to wonder how much time he has left.
  5. The Royals continued cleaning house today by firing third base coach Dave Owen, who has a prominent role in Cubs' trivia. It was actually Owen that drove in the winning run in the Sandberg game in 1984.

  7. There's already a recent thread devoted to Santo's announcing ability, so I'm merging the threads.
  8. The bold text is completely false. You had a few people here gung-ho for Lou, but most were vehemently opposed against hiring him even when it was just being suggested before Dusty was actually gone. When Lou was got hired the general consensus beyond those fanatical few was basically "at least he's not Joe Girardi/it could be worst" in terms of being positive. Really? I guess I wasn't quite here then, but I find this kind of hard to believe. Who else did people want? If I recall Bobby Valentine was at the top of many people's wish lists. I believe there was some talk about Fredi Gonzalez as well, but I may be confusing that with the previous search when Dusty Baker was eventually hired.
  9. I still remember that Angels' manager Terry Collins sarcastically conceded the 1998 World Championship to the Cubs during Spring Training, because the Cubs had just sent Wood down and if they had five starters better than Wood there was no way they could not win.
  10. I really blew it with the pitching starts this week. Somehow I miscalculated and will only have 6 active starts this week when I thought I had things set up for 7 (I think I somehow misread a Monday start as Sunday in the upcoming schedule). Meanwhile I have over 50 points from pitching starts on my bench. Despite this I still have a good chance at my first win (down by just under 20 but a 4 to 1 advantage in remaining pitching starts).
  11. Lance Briggs is a belated second team All-Pro. He replaces Brian Cushing, who was stripped of the honor because of his recent suspension due to his positive test for PEDs.
  12. I don't give Hendry credit for getting a decent return on a player that should never have been signed in the first place. Maybe it somewhat mitigates the original mistake (signing Bradley), but it was still a mistake. To paraphrase Dennis Green, Bradley was who we THOUGHT he was.
  13. Yes, he and Carmona are going to be my downfall this year. I have 64 points, but without them I'd have 90.
  14. About a week ago I read a report that he's likely to be called up in June. I also read that he's going to be limited to a total of 150 innings pitched this year between the minors and majors.
  15. This may be the week I finally break through the win column. I currently trail by 1/2 point but have a two start advantage remaining.
  16. It used to be a bit more than that back in the Jack Brickhouse era. There was always an interview on the show, just like there was back then on the Lead-Off Man show.
  17. It was reported over a year ago that Ken Burns was working on 10th Inning to update his 1994 documentary (in fact, he said Baseball was his only documentary that he'd update). Now more information is known. It will air on PBS on Sept. 28 & 29 (four hours total). A DVD and Blu-Ray will be available a week later with an additional two hours of material.
  18. He had two posts in the Bradley trade thread in December 2009. Prior to that he hadn't posted since July 2008.
  19. The reference may be to this thread, which in fact was in 2006. It was Scott G.F.'s most active thread.
  20. Jim Delaney denies the rumors.

  22. Mitch is definitely wrong. Marmol is clearly entrenched in the closer role and has done absolutely nothing to lose it. Even Lou can't be so stupid as to not see that.
  23. The third annual Road to Wrigley minor league game will be Wednesday, July 7. This year's game will feature the Peoria Chiefs vs. Kane County Cougars, a rematch of the first game two years ago.

    Week 5

You're off to a better start than I was my first year in the league. I started 0-13 and finished 4-18 (the way things are going that may be about how this year goes for me too).

I saw you shown as 0-5 late last night before you made this post, and I just checked again and it shows you as 0-5 now.
