  1. I generally won't forfeit my 7th start out of fear of negative points. However, I might if that start is scheduled for Sunday and I figure that I have it wrapped up by then unless the pitcher puts up a stinker. Similarly, I've occasionally benched a Monday night player in fantasy football to protect against negative points if I otherwise have it wrapped up.
  2. Bowls are basically like a participation trophy in little league. These days, yes. I still remember, though, when there were around 15 games and making one really meant something.
  3. Completely ridiculous. It's supposed to be an honor to go to a bowl game, not a disgrace not to go (which is what it's getting close to if over half the teams go to one).
  4. Ryno saw the future. Z's chances at a no-hitter are pretty minimal these days. Maybe he can be part of a combined no-no.
  5. I wonder how much input Hendry had in that move. I'd expect quite a bit. The scenario I imagine is that MacPhail told Hendry that he was turning the GM post over to Hendry, asked Hendry if he wanted Baylor to continue as manager, and when Hendry said no MacPhail agreed to be the hatchet man as his last act as GM so Hendry could get a clean start. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it went down.
  6. He fired Don Baylor, I believe. Hendry was promoted the day after Baylor was fired. Ah, ok. I knew he was promoted the same year that Baylor was fired, but couldn't remember the exact timetable. I thought Hendry was promoted earlier in the year and Baylor fired later in the year. MacPhail fired Baylor, then stepped down as GM and promoted Hendry from Assistant GM. I think that sequence of events was largely so that Hendry wouldn't have to fire Baylor as his first move.
  7. The question is, will Ricketts fire a veteran GM and manager. I think he might. Ricketts and his family did not put so much money into buying a team that is underachieving. If this team isn't playing better by the end of May, I thnk Lou and Hendry will be gone, and Trammell and ??? will take over as Manager and GM. But alas if you fire Piniella, you open the door for the Cubs to promote Ryne Sandberg to at least interim manager, and that is a propostion I'm not particularly interested in. You seem to be contradicting yourself. You say that Trammell will take over as manager (good), but in the next sentence you say it will be Sandberg (bad). I want Trammel, but I think I read somewhere that Tom Ricketts wanted Sandberg as the next manager. Your wording indicated that you THOUGHT Trammel would take over, which your next sentence contradicts. If what you meant was that you WANT Trammel but THOUGHT it would more likely be Sandberg (which is what your reply seems to suggest), that makes more sense.

  9. I remember last year we said you can't promote a pitcher from your minor league roster midweek and start him that week (I tried to do that with Norris, but it became a moot point when he put up negative points). It doesn't make sense to say that you can't promote a pitcher but you can sign a free agent. I think the interpretation that you can only use a starter you sign midweek only if due to injury or a trade is correct.
  10. Finally some life from my team. 37 points to start the week without using up a single pitching start yet (I sat Lannan against the Cubs). Too bad Raw didn't have Duke in his starting lineup.
  11. I think his current slump shows that calls for him to be brought up now are premature. I think he could still benefit from some time in the minors.
  12. Which you wouldn't have if my team weren't so pathetic.

    Week 3

At least my team isn't fooling me into thinking they're contending like they did last year.

    Week 3

I'm quite sure we've said in the past that a trade is a legitimate reason for making lineup changes during the week. For the same reason I'm putting Borbon in my lineup.
  15. Only Mother Nature can stop Castro.
  16. And he's going to be used out of the pen even at Iowa. Maybe they're writing him off as a starter.

    Week 3

For now is right. I have a three start advantage for the weekend. Hopefully they can score above zero. I knew you had an advantage remaining, which was precisely the reason for my "for now" qualification.

    Week 3

My team stinks this week (especially Arroyo), but somehow I'm winning (for now).
  19. Double-header tomorrow to make up for it.
  20. Fire Lou the village idiot immediately.
  21. Lou's idiocy has reached a new level. You DO NOT move Zambrano to the pen so you can keep Silva and Gorzelanny in the damn rotation.
  22. He signed a minor league contract and will report to extended spring training. The Cubs-Orioles connection continues. Former Cub Felix Pie goes on the DL. To replace him they call up former Cub Lou Montanez, then sign former Cub Corey Patterson to a minor league deal.
  23. He's definitely on the 60-day DL. He was placed on it early in Spring Training, before teams even started placing players on 15-day DLs. He's on my Roadkill team, so I've been keeping up with that.
