  1. I don’t think this is that big of a deal actually. I think it’d be really cool to see a more diverse roster but rosters change constantly. The marlins roster last year was filled with people of color from the all over the place. The guy who just got the biggest contract in the history of sports is a black Dominican. Racism isn’t as big of a deal as it used to be. It’s about talent, opportunity and culture.
  2. They let go of a lot of their top scouts during Covid to save money. But it just seems like the brewers do more with less resources in that area.
  3. It seems like the cubs international scouting department hasn’t been as good lately. Maybe it’s just me.
  4. What’s your definition of mash at the big league level
  5. When is Perlaza gonna get called up?
  6. This is the first amateur player they’ve ever signed out of Brazil before. I don’t think they ever “went” there to begin with.
  7. Personally I think the Cubs as well as other teams should maybe try to build academies in countries where baseball isn't as big(like the Rays did in Brazil)so they can maybe create a little interest in the game and give kids who otherwise wouldn't be able to play, a chance to.
  8. hey, I just wanted to get your guys opinion on what countries you guys think can or are going to be the next great breeding grounds for baseball talent. We already know about the Dominican and Venezuela, and even South Korea and Taiwan have produced some players, but what about any others? Personally, i think Brazil will start producing some players in the next 5-10 years. I also think China is a great untapped market, and even though baseball is the number one sport in Nicaragua, i think more and more players are going to start coming from there as they are building an academy there and more and more teams will start to scout there more heavily. What do you guys think?
  9. Thanks for the help. I just am kinda looking forward to following the DSL season this year more than in the past. Ever since Starlin Castro emerged I guess I am now trying to find the next Starlin Castro type player in our system. If Darlin Castro did somehow make it to the majors that would be awesome, though he did struggle mightily last year.
  10. Do any of you guys know where I can find an updated roster for the Cubs DSL teams? I've been checking milb.com and it's the same roster as last year. The season starts in a few weeks and i wanted to check out some of the new players. Any help would be appreciated.
  11. I think a guy who hasn't been mentioned enough is Jeff Antigua, at least for the bottom 10. He's done nothing but put up good numbers since he was a 17 year old in the DSL, and this year could start out at Daytona as a 19 year old. He's also a lefty which is even more valuable.
  12. "he's 17 years old and I think the $850k bonus tells us more about his potential than 29 games in the DSL." Yeah I guess you're right. We should give him some more time annd if he was paid that much he must have some potential. Do you know when he's coming back next year?
  13. I think someone to watch out for next year is a guy by the name of Arismendy Alcantara, a shortstop. He's only 18 and will stay 18 for all of next year. He hit 275 with 3 homers and 20 stolen bases. He had over 70 hits while leading or in the top 5 in every DSL Cubs hitting category. He also was hitting well over 300 for most of the year until he started to slow down a little bit at theend and fade. He did this all while he was 17 and in his first year. He's also a switch hitter which could increase his value. I know it was only one year and I know it was the DSL but he reminds me a little bit of Starlin Castro.
  14. Yeah, I don't know if Contreras is gonna be any good. On milb.com he was listed as a third baseman I believe. Even when he did play he didn't do good at all.
