  1. I remember thinking the Cubs blew the Wild Card by losing the last scheduled game of the season, then suddenly getting excited after Neifi hit the home run to beat the Giants and force the tie-breaker. That's when Neifi really did save the Cubs. :D
  2. Because that's 29 games under the leadership of a manager who knows how to handle a pitching staff. 29 fewer games of Dusty abusing his pitchers. Perhaps one of those 29 games is the one where Zambrano would be pushed to the breaking point by Dusty but used properly by a different manager.
  3. hes payed well enough to go out there and perform regaurdless of when he pitched last It's common knowledge that relief pitchers need regular work to stay sharp or else they aren't effective. If there aren't enough save opportunities, they need to be used in non-save situations to stay sharp. Dusty just doesn't understand that concept. How much Dempster's paid has nothing to do with that.
  4. Since it now sounds like draft pick compensation is a thing of the past, re-signing Ramirez if he opts out is absolutely mandatory, no excuses, zero tolerance. Hendry simply cannot allow a player that good to walk away and get absolutely nada. His job status even for next year must be contingent on him keeping Ramirez.
  5. Go Chattanooga! (Sounds strange to say that, but that's the only way the Jaxx can make the playoffs.) :(
  6. I wouldn't give up on Dempster until he has a chance to show what he can do under a real manager that knows how to handle a bullpen. However, I do think it is imperative for the Cubs to have a legitimate Plan B in case he struggles again next year (Wood, perhaps).
  7. How about we give them Mabry, under the condition that they also take Rusch and pay his salary? :D
  8. Hendry simply MUST find a way to keep Ramirez, period. Losing him and getting nothing but draft picks who may never pan out in unacceptable. If he leaves, bye bye Hendry.
  9. Chattanooga has five games remaining, but because they're against the Jaxx they could run the table. We just need for Huntsville to come back to Earth and lose their remaining games. It's strange talking about the Jaxx helping their chances by losing.
  10. Word. No, that's two words. :D
  11. I think we're saying the same thing with different words. I'm saying a contending team should be demanded as a condition of Hendry returning for 2008. If they don't contend next year sayanara, au revoir, auf wiedersehn, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  12. In other words, your opponent is the anti-Dusty because he isn't worried about the integrity of the races. :D I'm in another league where one manager has Brad Wilkerson in her active lineup at 1B despite the fact he's been out for the year for some time now. And she's the commissioner, and almost certain to make the playoffs.
  13. Realistic or not, that's exactly what should be demanded of him in order for him to return after next year. He destroyed the franchise with his moves, he's responsible for fixing it right away.
  14. Of course. We want his resume to look good to other teams to increase the chances he won't be back with the Cubs next year. :D
  15. Former Cub pitcher Sam "Toothpick" Jones (who pitched a no-hitter in the 1950s) begs to differ. I've got it! . . . Dusty invented the term Base-clogging!!! I think he also invented the term "moveable parts."
  16. Yeah, Mobile's Drew Macias (no relation to Jose) hit a 2-run HR with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th against Bobby Brownlie (Colt Morton was at third base). A shame that they'd use Brownlie in a game situation like that; that's like the Cubs using Rusch in a similar situation. Of course, that game had no bearing on their playoff chances anyway. It's the games involving Huntsville and Chattanooga that will determine their fate (including the Jaxx five game season-ending series against Chattanooga).
  17. The only thing I want Dusty to have to do with Pie is eating it for dessert.
  18. He was called up to replace Jonny Gomes, who went on the DL to have season-ending shoulder surgery. Link
  19. I agree. If they would have fired him in June/July, you have time for a new manager to come in and establish himself for next year. Not necessarily (if a new manager is going to be hired from another organization, that couldn't happen during the season). However, at least they would have had an interim manager who probably would have handled the pitching staff infinitely better than Dusty.
  20. Former Cub pitcher Sam "Toothpick" Jones (who pitched a no-hitter in the 1950s) begs to differ.
  21. West Tenn lost 4-2. Mobile scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th (obviously a walk-off home run; otherwise only one run would have counted).
  22. I don't know about Dish Network, but on DirecTV NFL Network is included in the regular programming package, but ESPNU is part of the Sports Pack subscription ($12 per month).
  23. It's official. Lee has been activated and Coats optioned to Iowa.
  24. You can atone for that by not enjoying any of his columns next year. :D
