  1. I don't think so. Hendry doesn't bring in top free agents, but at least he keeps the stars he does have. I'd be surprised if Ramirez isn't back (unless he's dead set on leaving regardless of money).
  2. I'm in my second year in a keeper league. I believe last year the deadline was around Halloween. I haven't seen a deadline announced for this year yet.
  3. Carolina did their part and beat Tennessee tonight. The Jaxx are now within 3 games of 1st place (despite being in 4th); they've won 3 in a row, whereas Tennessee has lost 4 in a row.
  4. Otis89 would agree with you. :D
  5. According to MiLB.com, for some reason the entire Midwest League is off both Tuesday and Wednesday.
  6. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/78/Tubby_Smith.jpg I don't think the Cubs own the rights to Tubby to trade him.
  7. The heated discussion on defense and OBP has been split into its own thread. Hopefully this thread can get back on topic.
  8. I've now started a group for the college pick'em contest as well. Group ID: 12275 Password: NSBB
  9. Have you seen my weekend stats? You have a very good shot. You were just saying that to get my players overconfident. And it worked. Especially with Hennessey. :x
  10. Now that statement could be taken literally as well as figuratively. :D
  11. Probably... An interview with Jim Hendry in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Easily the highlight: hilarious. I wonder what Hendry's answer was. Simple. They're baseball players, not artists. It isn't fair to expect them to be able to draw anything.
  12. Yes, just like it's possible I'll become a millionnaire in the next lottery drawing. And I think their chances are about the same as that happening.
  13. Only if they can sign Wells to a long-term extension. Not if he's going to walk after next year.
  14. They could have filled the void by sending Neifi Perez down from Chicago instead. :D
  15. That's for sure. That was the trade I'd rate as the worst since I've been a Cub fan (1969). If they had both Smith and Palmeiro on the team they would have been quite tough to beat. On the other hand, I think both Smith and Palmeiro were players Sandberg wanted gone (I believe both were among Cindy Sandberg's conquests :D ).
  16. I knew there aren't separate halves at the AAA level, but I wasn't sure if there were any wild cards (as there are in the Midwest League).
  17. I wouldn't rate the trade as bad as you do. In the long run it certainly favored Texas, but the Cubs would not have won the division in 1989 without Wild Thing. Sometimes a trade can help a team in the short run but hurt in the long run. I think a better comparison might be John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander. In the long run that trade clearly favored the Braves, but in the short run Alexander helped the Tigers win the division that year (I think it was 1987, but I'm not positive).
  18. Iowa was within a game or two recently, but is now 5 games behind Nashville in the PCL. I believe they can only make the playoffs by finishing ahead of Nashville to win the division. West Tenn is in third place, 5 games behind Tennessee. They can make the playoffs either by making up the ground and winning the second half, or by having the second best overall record if Chattanooga (currently 3 games behind) can win both halves. Daytona is currently a half game out of first place in their division. Peoria has already clinched a playoff spot during the first half of the season. Boise is currently in first place, 2 1/2 games up. Mesa is currently in 7th place, 5 1/2 games out. Based on this, my assessment is that Boise is likely a playoff team, Daytona has an excellent chance, Iowa and West Tenn have outside chances, and Mesa's chances are slim and none. I'm not sure that any of the teams would get stacked at this point, because most of the teams are still in contention.
  19. Maybe I can jinx them the same as I jinxed the Jaxx when they were in Zebulon. :D
  20. Congrats to last year's NSBB Minor League Player of the Year.
  21. A perfect example of why Dusty should have been fired already rather than waiting until after the season and giving him an opportunity to screw things up even more.
  22. There is a picture that's often been posted on this board of a Cardinals fan with a sign misspelling it as moran. Any time you see it spelled that way on this board, it's a reference to that picture.
  23. Step 4: Maddux hires his brother as pitching coach.
