  1. Huntsville and Chattanooga both keep winning (five in a row for both of them), so Huntsville leads both Chattanooga and Tennessee by 2.5 games. Jaxx are 7.5 out. We need to root for Chattanooga to make up the ground and overtake Huntsville to win both halves.
  2. The Vikings have released Koren Robinson. Good for them.
  3. It's his Cubs debut, but not his major league debut. He had a cup of coffee with Kansas City in 2003.http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/walrole01.shtml
  4. I'm sure if they had, for example, a doubleheader featuring Iowa and Peoria there would be a lot of interest. And it would be good for the minor leaguers to get the experience of playing a game at Wrigley.
  5. Pagan by himself wouldn't have been enough. Now if we also include Bynum, that's a horse of a different color. :D
  6. You're contradicting yourself; there's no such thing as "straight point spreads." There's either straight picks (which means just pick the winner) or point spreads. Perhaps you could clarify which one you meant you prefer.
  7. I'd be happy if he went anywhere in the NL, but St. Louis would be perfect.
  8. I too would rather see Williams start since he's already on the 40-man roster (it's only one meaningless game; who cares if he gets lit up). By adding Walrond to the roster, he'd need to be exposed to waivers in order to take him back off during the offseason. I think it's much more likely that he'd be claimed on waivers than it would be for someone else to take him in the Rule 5 draft if he's kept off the roster. So basically, I think they're increasing the chances of losing him for the sake of one meaningless game. Of course, if they don't think he has a major league future and are planning to release him in the offseason anyway, then it doesn't really matter.
  9. I'd be happy to pitch in a little money to help buy a stat book for Hendry if he can't afford one. :D
  10. Actually, it's 14. There are 12 pitchers currently shown in the cubs.com statistics with at least one start, plus Maddux and Walrond who are not shown (Maddux because he's been traded, Walrond because he hasn't pitched at the major league level yet this year). It's so ridiculous even the Cubs own web site can't keep track of how many starters there have been. :D
  11. It looks like I could change the settings. Those who have entered (or are planning to enter), please indicate your preference for straight picks vs. point spreads, for both college and pro. If it appears there's a consensus to change either or both contests to point spreads I'll do so.
  12. I think that's the whole reason for bringing him back. Obviously he won't help win this year, but he can gain confidence that he's fully healed and back to his usual effectiveness heading into next year.
  13. If I had any confidence that the Cubs could develop a mainly home-grown team that would contend for years (much like we were fooled into thinking we had after 2003) I'd prefer that. However, since my confidence in their ability to do so is approximately zero I'm in the anyway they can win camp.
  14. That's what I've been anticipating ever since Hendry announced Baker would stay through the end of the season. I don't expect him to either be fired or resign. They will simply announce at some point they were unable to reach agreement for an extension so they mutually agreed to part ways. As long as he's not back next year, I could really care less what language they use to announce it.
  15. I hope he does win it, because this may be his best chance. I hate to say it, but given the way Dusty has abused him, there's no assurance he won't follow in the footsteps of Prior and Wood and start having injury problems.
  16. This is what I would do. Offer Pierre arbitration-we would like him to decline, but if he accepts, it wouldn't be that bad to have him play CF for another year. Do not sign him to a multi-year deal. exactamundo! And make it clear up front in the negotiations that we're only interested in a one year deal since Pie will soon be ready. I'd even make it clear to Pierre that Pie gets first crack at the starting CF job if he shows he's ready in Spring Training.
  17. And if Schmidt goes to Seattle, he and King Felix can form Seattle's version of Prior and Wood. Imagine simulated game matchups of Hernandez vs. Prior and Schmidt vs. Wood.
  18. Make it tickets, plural. We need to send Rothschild and Clines too.
  19. And the irony of that is that the Jaxx end the season with a five game series against Chattanooga. They may be in a position where losing would put them in the playoffs but winning would knock them out.
  20. And the chances of him making it through the year healthy are lower, because he would be subject to Dusty's abuse.
  21. I see I'm getting some love in the latest poll on the Roadkill site. :D
  22. I doubt he'd be leaving for an Olympic team. This isn't an Olympic year, and baseball is no longer an Olympic sport anyway. Perhaps it's for some other tournament. Baseball is being pulled from the Olympics starting in 2012. It will still be part of the next Olympics. I knew it was being pulled from the Olympics; I just forgot when.
  23. That would be real pitcher abuse, since that would mean sending him back down and starting him one day after he pitched two innings in relief for the Cubs. :D
  24. I'm on the way up! I'm now in the top 1,000 at #994. :D
  25. Also Joyce DeWitt (one of the stars of the 70s classic TV show Three's Company).
