  1. It's the top headline. Yahoo.com just tweeted it 2 minutes ago. Just added it. Turn out the lights, the party's over. :( http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/news/story?id=5890812
  2. His next chance is a year from now. The Veterans Committee now votes on a three-year rotation and this year the vote is for players whose best years were in the 1970s and later.
  3. So we'd be trading a backup catcher who might not even make the major league roster because he's blocked by the great Koyie Hill and getting Willie Stargell or Frank Thomas. Sign me up. :D
  4. Very sad news. I don't think it would have been a real shock to read it at any time given his health issues, but I don't think any of us knew it was imminent. Shove it up your gluteus maximus, Veterans Committee voters. It would be fitting if Ron's family refuses to participate when Ron finally gets elected posthumously. Ron actually talked to me once. I was in Atlanta for the early April series in Atlanta in 2004 and staying at the team hotel. I just got to the lobby when Ron and others got back from the game and he said "hold the elevator."
  5. It's not that type of arbitration. It's pre-FA arbitration. So does that mean that if the Cubs offer it there's no accepting it, and if they don't offer it then he becomes a FA? There's no accepting/declining to be done by Hill. You either offer arbitration to your arb-eligible players or you release them. If the Cubs can't work out a deal before the arbitration hearing (they always do), then they'll go to arbitration and the arbiter will pick either the Cubs submitted # or Hill's. Ryan Theriot says hi.
  6. North Texas, not aTm.
  7. I thought they were (there's no other legitimate reason for Lenny Harris being on the ballot), but I checked and you're right. There's a screening committee that approves newly eligible players to be included on the ballot
  8. Yes, if he hangs on long enough to have a 10-year major league career. Everybody that qualifies automatically goes on the ballot in the player's first year of eligibility. To stay on the ballot beyond that the player needs to get a specified minimum percentage of votes (I believe it's 5%).
  9. Looks like the Colts' 7-year streak of 12+ win seasons is about to come to an end.
  10. Should have been a PI. Yep; saw that on the replay.
  11. Another pick-6 for Peyton.
  12. In the past they haven't had a starting RB, starting WR, and starting TE all injured at the same time.
  13. Shouldn't be surprising considering how many key injuries they have.
  14. Yeah, you had made that point quite emphatically earlier in this thread. :D This is the statement win that we thought beating Dallas was at the time (before it was clear that Dallas sucks).
  15. He's WAY exaggerating it. Webb has pitched one game in the last two years. There's no chance he's going to get a contract like that. The best he could hope for is a one-year contract with a vesting option.
  16. I lose, Bears win. I'll take that result any time.
  17. Browns-Panthers is my early game. I just hope it doesn't run late and make me miss the start of the Bears game.
  18. And just as I say that OSU runs the kickoff back for a TD.
  19. Oklahoma's just about put it away now. Two possession game with just about three minutes remaining.
  20. Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland has been named interim head coach and will coach Miami in their bowl game. Offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Mark Whipple has also been fired.
  21. And to think they just signed Shannon to a 4-year extension before this season. Oops.
  22. Yep; I'm watching the game. For once the announcers weren't guilty of hyperbole when gushing over a play.
  23. Indiana comes from behind and beats Purdue 34-31 in OT to win the Old Oaken Bucket and snap a 12-game Big 10 losing streak. IU won the coin flip for OT and elected to start on defense, then intercepted a pass to set up the game-winning field goal drive. Bill Lynch still needs to be fired.
