  1. Wake Forest is worse than anyone thought. They lost to Presbyterian tonight.
  2. judge in Minnesota ruled the suspension violated workers rights laws in Minnesota. so, never. that was about 2 years ago Actually I think they could be enforced if the players signed with another team or if the Vikings move to Los Angeles. They'd no longer be under the protection of BS Minnesota law.
  3. No.
  4. lol, remember when steve philips traded him for victor zambrano? I'm not sure if you were joking or not, but it was actually Scott Kazmir that was traded for Zambrano.
  5. Yeah, you'd have flat out demolished me then, even with my guys putting up a pretty good score overall. Good luck fighting for the title! You may have a stay of execution. Favre has been upgraded to questionable, and if he does play tonight I'll be counting on Forte and Olsen (whom I'd swap in for Webb at the flex position) to combine for 10 points. And while I think they'd likely do it, I wouldn't call it a given.
  6. Ball State has hired Elon head coach Pete Lembo to replace Stan Parrish.
  7. Good job NC. I'm pulling for snow and ice in Minny to grind the offenses to a hault, but I really don't see much likelihood that Forte and Webb will manage less than 10 points. At least we both had good weeks and neither of our teams forgot to score points. Makes losing feel a lot better. It was just your bad luck to play against me the week my team started scoring again. Your score would have been enough to beat me any of the previous three weeks. What's encouraging is that I have a good score despite leaving Collie and Vick on my bench. If I had started them I could have really put up a monster score.
  8. My team finally remembered how to score. I need 10 points combined tomorrow night from Forte and Webb to advance to the championship. My kicker outscored every one of Dew's active players except for his QB.
  9. Good move: Putting Manningham in my lineup at the last minute. Bad move: Putting him in for Collie rather than Moore. Bad move: Leaving 50+ points from Vick on my bench.
  10. Phil Cavarretta, who played for the Cubs from 1935 to 1953 (and then turned to the Dark Side and played his last two years with the White Sox), has died at 94. He died of complications from a stroke and was also suffering from leukemia. He was a three-time All-Star and was the NL MVP in 1945. He was also Cubs' manager from 1951 through 1953. He was fired during Spring Training in 1954 for being honest and saying that the Cubs weren't very good.
  11. ESPN is reporting that Ralph Friedgen may be asked to accept a buyout of the remainder of his contract at Maryland. Mike Leach might be the front-runner to replace him.
  12. I would think all those people who bought nameless no. 22 jerseys all those years ago - and have since seen their jerseys go from Prior to Hart to Gorzelanny to Nady - are okay with this. Assuming Pena gets the playing time appropriate for a team's presumed starter at first base, he'll be the first starting position player to wear no. 22 since Bill Buckner in 1938. Everyone else to wear it since has been either a pitcher or a reserve position player. No wonder Buckner let the ball through his legs in the 1986 Series. By then he was so old he couldn't bend down. :D
  13. Those considering McNabb may want to reconsider. He's being benched in favor of Grossman.
  14. If Javier Lopez can turn into a pitcher there's no reason Henry can't as well. :D
  15. Unfortunately he's still a Cub. He spent much of the second half of the season on the DL, which is why you didn't see him in August or September.
  16. Thanks for the idea. :D
  17. Why would something like "all conference champs are invited" be a bad thing? 11 conference champions and 5 WC teams sounds fair to me. And if they're so bad they won't make it past the first round, now will they? so they shouldn't be there. then why are they even division 1-A? They're not. They're FBS. :P
  18. That is NOT given. The Cubs are in a crappy division; there's no reason they can't compete. While true, I'd still put us 3rd behind the Cards and Reds. I hope we're not done with the offseason at this stage though, maybe we could close the gap a little more. No dispute there. I'm not saying the Cubs would be the favorites, but it gets a bit annoying when people repeatedly say the Cubs are going nowhere in 2011 as if it were indisputable fact. It's far from that.
  19. The moves were formally announced today. I hate it for selfish reasons, but apparently the motivation was tightening of league travel rules. Teams must get exceptions from the league to travel more than 500 miles by bus, and it sounds like the league is getting stricter in granting the exceptions. That means the Mudcats likely would have to start flying to cities more than 500 miles away, and that includes all but three league opponents. Basically, they're just not really in the Southern League geographic region.
  20. That is NOT given. The Cubs are in a crappy division; there's no reason they can't compete.
  21. I wonder if the two Masons are related. I also noticed that Jody Davis isn't managing in the system next year. In addition to Dubois starting coaching another member of the 2010 I-Cubs, Mark Johnson, is also shifting to coaching/managing as new manager of Boise.
  22. And per ESPN. One year deal, expected to be announced this week. The ESPN article also mentions the D-Backs are set to sign Hank White.
  23. I looked for it. Couldn't find it. If someone can, please combine them. He may have been thinking instead of the starting lineup thread, which to me isn't the same as a roster thread.
  24. I plan to tweak that some next year. In the past return yards were part of the defensive scoring, which led to the unintended consequence of rewarding bad defenses because giving up a lot of scores in turn creates kickoff return opportunities. So this year I decided to make return yards part of individual scoring and, although I still like that idea in concept, I think I went overboard in the amount.
