The coaches are supposed to vote for the BCS title game winner, but this isn't the first time there's been a defection or two. I believe Boise State got a couple of rebel votes after the 06 season as well. If that's the case, why even allow the coaches to vote for no. 1 at the end of the season? Give them votes for no. 2 to no. 25 and remove Auburn. That's actually how I thought it was done. I checked and Andy's right; BSU did receive one first place vote after 2006. It may be similar to the year non-rookie Edison Volquez received a ROY vote; the vote wasn't proper, but perhaps they let it slide because it didn't affect the outcome.

Final rankings are out. TCU moved ahead of Oregon for #2 in both the AP and USA Today polls. Auburn was not unanimous in either poll (TCU got 3 first place votes in the AP poll and 1 in USA Today). I actually thought the coaches were REQUIRED to vote for the championship game winner as #1, but apparently I was wrong. I'm guessing those were intended to be statement votes. FCS champion Eastern Washington received one point in the AP poll.

He looks like organizational filler. He's been in professional baseball since 1999 (supplemental 1st round pick for the Orioles that year) and has never made it to the majors. Ryne Duren, a relief pitcher for the Yankees and several other teams in the 1950s and 60s, has died at 81. He's best known for a 100+-MPH fastball, bouts of wildness, and Coke-bottle glasses. He's one of only two players named Ryne in MLB history, and the "other" Ryne was named after Duren.

They deserved to lose the time out purely based on stupidity even if technically the booth official did call for the replay first. Even if it was a TD, challenging the call really sends a statement that Miles didn't trust his team to gain less than one yard on three plays.

They already did. "Stand Pat" Gillick was elected. The Veterans Committee now votes on a three-year cycle, and this time it was the expansion era's turn. Santo will be eligible again next time.

They just said on ESPN's First Take that Joe Schad is reporting RichRod is officially out. I just got a text alert from ESPN saying he's out.

MLBN has a new weekly series counting down the 20 best games of the last 50 years (each episode is one hour and features one game). The series began last night with #20, which was the 23-22 Phillies win over the Cubs in 1977. Despite the outcome it was nice hearing Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau again. And for those who really enjoy torture, tonight at 9:00 Eastern time (repeated at midnight Eastern time) the Baseball Seasons series features 2003.
