  1. I was at the game. He was looking good (a couple walks but no hits allowed) but appeared to be holding his back after one of the walks (consistent with the back spasms report). The trainer and pitching coach came out, followed shortly by the manager, and he was taken out of the game.
  2. He and Chip Caray were let go for being too critical of the team. I think it was a situation where the contracts were not renewed. At least that is how I remember it. Am I wrong? According to wikipedia Stone refused to renew his contract after the 2004 season during which he was confronted by several players who thought he was overly critical. My bad. I think it was Chip Caray whose contact was not renewed. If I recall correctly, Stone's refusal to renew was in part because he thought that Chip was getting a raw deal. That's my recollection too. It wasn't Chip's choice to leave; it was Stone's choice. I believe both the controversies with players and the treatment of Chip were factors in Stone's decision not to return.
  3. Down 30 points and one pitching start despite a gem from Lincecum. Not how I hoped to start the week.
  4. the ones not named mcgee. sorry, didn't know that was a rule. so say i wanted to drop victor martinez and add koyie hill (i do not). can i make the transaction now, or would it process immediately? basically what i'm asking is if the only time you can physically enter the transaction is after the sunday games are completed and before the monday games start? You'd be able to make the move now, but you'd then be without an active catcher this week. Martinez would be gone from your team, and you would not be allowed to put Hill in your active lineup until the coming Monday. You can pick up players during the week, but they can only go on your reserve list unless it's for one of the reasons mentioned by Brian. And I want to play you the week you put Hill in your lineup. :D
  5. I only caught pieces of it. One of the guys sounded really familiar but I couldn't place his voice. Who was it? dick emnbergThanks. Sounded more like a basketball voice to me. FWCIU. Enberg gave up broadcasting college basketball and became the Padres' play-by-play announcer in 2010.
  6. Batting order (per cubs.com): 1. Castro, SS 2. Barney, 2B 3. Byrd, CF 4. Ramirez, 3B 5. Pena, 1B 6. Soriano, LF 7. Fukudome, RF 8. Soto, C 9. Zambrano, P
  7. On the minus side I'm 0-2 and near the bottom of the league in scoring. On the plus side Josh Hamilton should be easy for me to fit under the keeper limit.

    Week 2

I have a 25-point lead, but I'm facing starts by Hamels and King Felix and my only remaining start is Duensing. Could go either way.
  9. He's always been a pitcher (at least in pro baseball; I don't know about before that). Last year was just his second year in the minors; he was drafted in 2009. He came over from the Dodgers along with Smit and a position player, right? I, too, thought he was the position player The position player was DeWitt.

  11. It was the worst par-4 hole anybody has played in PGA history. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=6355925
  12. Heh, check that, because my post was wrong; Sale was responsible for the 3 runs in the 9th (or at least loaded the bases before he was pulled). Thornton then pitched the 10th and gave up 10 himself. Hysterical. They both have ERAs of over 7.00 right now. Looks like they need Plan C.
  13. I think Sale's time as closer may be coming sooner rather than later.

    Week 2

Lincecum gave some of that advantage back last night by being ordinary.
  15. Just saw that. Any word on whether the London game is a home game or a road game yet? Road game against Tampa Bay.

  17. Drop Hamilton, pick up Adrian Gonzalez.

    Week 2

Josh Hamilton to my DL, Ben Francisco signed as a free agent and replacing Hamilton in my OF.
  19. Actually, I knew that. I do understand your confusion, as I didn't use green font.

    Week 2

I'm off to a better start this week. Leading (albeit by 3/4 point) and a pitching start advantage. A rare negative outing from King Felix helps.
  21. What a terrible pitcher. Hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007, but he's still bouncing around the minor (or at least he was as recently as last year). Ryan Braun
  22. Absolute must win. Lose this game, season over. (It worked tonight; may as well try it again.)
  23. That information is posted under Keeper Roster in the rules thread. One slight, but potentially significant, correction to what Brian said: To not count as an exemption a hitter has to have fewer than 50 plate appearances (rather than at-bats) in the season. It gets a bit confusing because the criteria for exemptions is based on plate appearances, where for minor league eligibility it's based on at-bats.
