  1. Not that it will necessarily make a difference, but I'm still due to have 3 points added back to wipe out Duensing's relief outing this week since we don't count points earned by a starting pitcher in an unscheduled relief appearance. That policy should be the same regardless of whether the points are positive or negative since it's not intended as a penalty to the manager, since it's an unforeseen situation rather than the manager being negligent.
  2. Sounds like Cowherd read speculation and mistook it for an actual report, then rescinded his statement after the commercial break.
  3. A Google search suggested that he did say that, but it isn't true.
  4. I picked him up in one league (even though I had to drop the great Sam Fuld to make room for him).
  5. Um, are you perhaps confusing Tom Ricketts with this guy? http://www.nndb.com/people/410/000022344/don-rickles-pubshot.jpg Mafia lingo. D'oh.
  6. Um, are you perhaps confusing Tom Ricketts with this guy? http://www.nndb.com/people/410/000022344/don-rickles-pubshot.jpg
  7. He needs more surgery (this time to clear out scar tissue from last year's operation) and will not play this year. Talk about a costly home run celebration. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=6530244
  8. Looks like Kendry (excuse me, Kendrys) Morales will be a free keeper for me for 2012. He needs more surgery and is out for the entire year.
  9. Adam correctly pointed out in the Roadkill chat room that Deven's minor league roster is illegal. He has Arrieta on his minor league roster, but he has long lost minor league eligibility. He had 18 starts last year, well over the limit. If Deven carried Arrieta on his minor league roster during the offseason that means he would in effect have had 11 keepers for this year.
  10. I think it's OK (it should be), but I'm not certain if a final word on this issue has come yet. ETA: I could be in that situation too. By the time the Twins announced that Duensing's next start will be skipped it was too late for me to activate Chatwood for his start tonight. If nothing else happens I'll have exactly 7 starts, but if Vazquez's start is skipped (he's currently on the bereavement list) I'll need to pick up somebody for my 7th start.
  11. Clint must be breathing a huge sigh of relief. Gonzales put up -23 today, but it's wiped out because the game was rained out before becoming official. Doesn't even count as one of his 7 starts since officially it didn't happen. This helps me too, because the 10 points Moreland had for my opponent are also wiped out.
  12. Bruce Miles tweeted that he thinks that both Davis and Castillo may be on their way to Chicago. I dont know how many times, or if at all we'll need that 5th starter between now and when Wells returns, but better him than Russell. Hill out the door or to the DL? :-k Sadly, no. Soto to the DL if it happens. I just hope that if this does happen, Castillo gets the bulk, or at least a fair share of the playing time. Our offense is not good enough to have a 2nd pitchers spot in the lineup. According to cubs.com Soto will undergo an MRI today and probably miss "a few games." Castillo was pulled from yesterday's game and is reportedly on the way to Chicago as insurance. It seems to me that one possible scenario, if Soto really does need to miss just a few games and doesn't need to go on the DL, would be to send down a pitcher (perhaps Berg) and call up Castillo today, then send Castillo back down and call up a pitcher (perhaps Davis) for the start on Sunday.
  13. I need to have the negative three points for Duensing reversed. He was unexpectedly used in relief tonight, and our policy has always been that points accumulated by a starting pitcher in a relief role don't count. I need every break I can get.
  14. I knew about the mono, but I had never seen anything about an inflected spleen as well.
  15. Tony LaRussa will miss at least tonight's game. He is at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for treatment of his eye ailment. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6520107
  16. NC Cubs trade 4th round pick to Fuzzy Logistics for Carlos Pena. Looks like Brian is collecting 4th round picks the way Tim usually collects 1st rounders. :D
  17. I had to look around a bit to figure it out. I prefer the old layout because I knew where to look for everything.
  18. According to ESPN Turgeon is expected to receive an offer from Maryland today. ESPN's source said that he hasn't accepted the offer but is leaning in that direction.
  19. Click on Trade under My Team, then scroll down.
  20. Bruce Pearl is available and he's not named Mark Turgeon.
  21. My guess is yes. If he clears waivers the signing team would only have to pay a prorated portion of the minimum salary. Somebody would almost certainly be willing to risk that.
  22. That's what we did mideason last year when Juan had to drop out of the league for awhile, so there is at least some precedence for that. An immediate issue is that, unless Chuck mysteriously appears and sets his lineup before today's deadline he'll have an illegal roster, with Longoria still on his DL even though he's playing again in the majors. We had the same problem back in the first week of the season when he put Holliday on the DL even though he didn't go on the major league DL. At that time you imply swapped Holliday for Longoria, because Longoria was on the major league DL but not on Chuck's, so we considered that acceptable within the spirit of the rules. Something similar could be done now, since Lyons is on the major league DL but still in Chuck's active lineup. However, it shouldn't be your responsibility to continually manage Chuck's DL (although it could be a short-term fix while searching for a new manager, if we decide to go in that direction).
  23. It was Bob that had the issue, with Casey McGehee. He was in the lineup at 2B as a keeper when Bob took over the team based on past eligibility. Bob took him out of the lineup, then tried to put him back in but could only do so at 3B, which is the only position he's supposed to be eligible for this year. That's when he traded him to me for Jake McGee. Completely consistent with what Tim said.
  24. Nothing like having a 7-6 pitching start advantage, playing an opponent who wasn't managing his team during the week, and still losing. :(
  25. Drunk enough that you missed the fact he's now named Kendrys Morales. [-X
