  1. Ouch; 7 starts against 6 and it looks like I'm still going to lose (barring a save from League and a big game tonight from Francisco). I needed a bit more from Davis today.
  2. that has to be the most amazing post i've ever read. Do you have HFFC on ignore? The real question is if he has HCCF on ignore.
  3. Now that the deadline for setting rosters for today has passed I can breath a sigh of relief. Chuck will have only 6 starts because he didn't move Dickey, who's starting today, to his active lineup. So unless Davis really stinks up the joint today I have a good chance at another win. If Chuck doesn't check in before tomorrow's games he'll have another illegal roster issue. Longoria is still on his DL even though he's active again in the majors.
  4. I'd forgotten about him; the Cubs got him along with Turk Wendell from the Braves for Damon Berryhill and Mike Bielicki. He pitched in three games for the Cubs at the end of the 1991 season (his first major league action) and put up some good numbers in limited action (4.1 IP, 1-0, 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 203 ERA+). For some reason the Cubs then released him that offseason and he wasn't signed b another team until Aug. 1992; he wasn't back in the majors until 1994. I wonder if he was injured, because he didn't even pitch in the minors in 1992.
  5. I noticed Chuck hasn't been on NSBB in nearly a month (April 11). His profile shows his location as "in limbo." Seems like an accurate description for his current status in Roadkill.
  6. It seems to me that the norm is either for the school to self-investigate first or for a joint school and NCAA investigation, but I don't think it's common for the NCAA to investigate first.
  7. I took a look at the demo on milb.com and it looked good on my computer screen. The cost is lower for somebody that also subscribes to mlb.tv, but I don't know how much the discount is. I don't have it just because I don't like being tied to my computer screen to watch an entire game. If it ever becomes available on streaming devices (such as blu-ray players) like mlb.tv did I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.
  8. Nope, Esteban Yan did. And I actually knew that off the top of my head... Right you are; I misunderstood what his accomplishment was. He's the first Rays' player to homer in his first at bat in his major league debut. Yan did homer in his first at bat, but it wasn't his major league debut.
  9. Today he did something else. He threw his second career no-no.
  10. Matusz and Miller aren't garbage. Tim valued them enough to trade me Josh Hamilton for them.

  12. First player in Rays' history to do so.
  13. Sound like Seve Ballesteros is close to losing his battle with brain cancer. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=6491637&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines
  14. A second player the Cubs traded for Garza, Brandon Guyer, just got called up by the Rays.
  15. Gary Williams is retiring as Maryland coach.
  16. I'd be in favor of increasing the number of reserve spots (probably too late to change this year, but we could change for next year). I think three reserve spots was adequate when we were limited to five starting pitchers for the week regardless of the number of starts, but with needing to devote at least one (two for me) reserve spots for extra starting pitchers to ensure seven starts it makes it hard to have spots available for good players who are currently slumping or for prospects who lose minor league eligibility but aren't contributing that much this year.
  17. A third is if your DL is full and you have another injured player you don't want to drop. As far as Bob's question about replacing Napoli with Martinez is concerned, I'm fairly sure that's OK. I know removing a player that gets injured is OK, and I think the opposite (activating a player that's no longer injured) is also fine.
  18. The basic spirit of the rules is for this to be a weekly change league (with exceptions for things like injuries), but starting pitchers have been treated differently for the past few years. When I first joined the league you were allowed to have five active starting pitchers (set by the beginning of the week as with other positions). The problem with that is that the outcome of a matchup might be determined not by quality of performance but the luck of the draw where one manager's pitchers may only have five scheduled starts for the week while the other manager's are scheduled for eight starts. We didn't want matchups determined based mainly on who had more pitching starts that week, so we adopted the seven start rule and allowed flexibility for moving pitchers in and out during the week so you can get your seven starts without going over.
  19. I believe that technically checks are only good for 90 days, but I'm also under the impression that banks rarely enforce the limit. I always thought it was 180 days? Could be; I'm not positive. My main point was that I don't think banks enforce it whatever the limit is.
  20. I have been lucky the last two weeks with Liriano - I bench him last week and he produced -16 (or something like that but it did not help me win) and this week decided to play him because the Sox sucks and yahoo - a no-no... I had the opposite luck in the league I have him in. I had him active for his stinker last week and benched for his no-no. :-x

  22. The only way it would be fair to take their points away would be to do it for the entire season rather than finding new managers. That way everybody would be treated the same, effectively having a bye the weeks they were scheduled to play the delinquents.
  23. I have Liriano on my team in another league and I benched him for this start because he's been sucking. Ouch!
  24. I'm very glad now that I traded for McGehee and not Freese.
  25. I've had a rather strange feeling this week. It's called "winning." I think I could get used to it. :D
