  1. Don't forget to enter and submit picks for the Second Chance contest. Those who are in the main contest should have received an e-mail from Yahoo with the registration link. If you didn't get that e-mail, or if you missed the main contest but want to participate in this one, the registration link is http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t2/register/joinprivategroup_assign_team?GID=4331&P=gocubs.
  2. I think this is bound to go slower than the regular draft because you can't queue players and use autopilot like you can during the regular draft.
  3. In the past there have been 3 bench and 3 DL spots. I assume it will be the same this year.
  4. I don't know about that; I have a hunch he won't allow a single baserunner all year.
  5. Or hiring Jeff Gillooly to take out Hill.
  6. We'll have the same issue at the end of the season since the regular season ends on a Wednesday this year. But that will only affect me and whoever I'm playing for the championship. :D
  7. Yes. The draft isn't limited to those taken during the 2010 amateur draft. Even if he did have major league experience he'd still be fair game if he still had minor league eligibility.
  8. Carlos Silva is now available on a waiver wire near you. :D
  9. You can all concede the championship to me right now; I got CARLOS SILVA!!!!! (Really just a fun throw-away pick to keep the draft moving.)
  10. I don't think it's necessary; I was just pointing out that's what the rule was last year. I agree that the key is really for rosters to be legal by the start of the season. As far as Sale is concerned, all I remember is that he was a 2010 amateur draft pick who was called up to the White Sox during the season and was picked up by Navin. I don't recall whether he went through waivers when called up or was already considered to be a free agent; maybe Navin recalls.
  11. Hadn't thought of that. Last year we were able to do it because we had the prospect draft before the regular one, so you were still able to drop players.
  12. Last year we required the minor league rosters to be kept legal throughout the draft. In other words, if you already had ten minor leaguers and drafted another you had to simultaneously drop one. And Navin's right about what was allowed last year. That's how he was able to pick up Sale.
  13. Not anymore. :(
  14. Just as true as what I said about Silva.
  15. I'd normally say mop-up reliever would be another possibility, but I think that role is reserved for Samardzija. If Silva somehow makes the rotation that would prove that there was never really any competition in the first place.
  16. Tied for 4th place after the first day. Not bad. I'll set up the second chance contest sometime over the weekend.
  17. First place! My best possible score is lower than several others, though, mainly because I had Loserville in the Sweet 16.
  18. Rawdog's annual appearance. Now we know that the start of the baseball season is near. :D
  19. Morehead State stole a million dollars from me. :(
  20. That would be Navin. I earned the second pick, then traded it to him as part of the Lincecum trade.
  21. I've been in the top 5 every year since I joined the league in 2005, including winning it all in 2005 and finishing 2nd twice since then. I wish I could transfer some of that performance to my baseball team.
  22. At the current pace you could probably make this statement a week from now and still be accurate.
  23. I read Butler's Brad Stevens mentioned as a possibility for NC State, but I don't know if that's serious or wishful thinking.
  24. I'd forgotten that there was another Carpenter before the current Cardinal. His first name was actually spelled Cris, though. Interestingly he started his major league career with the Cardinals. Cris Carpenter
  25. Big day for roster cuts today. Optioned to Iowa: Robert Coello, Thomas Diamond Optioned to Tennessee: Alberto Cabrera, Rafael Dolis, Kyle Smit Non-roster invitees assigned to minor league camp: Chris Carpenter, Jay Jackson, Trey McNutt, Scott Rice, Steve Clevenger, Chris Robinson, Bryan LaHair, Marquez Smith, Josh Vitters, Jim Adduci, Brett Jackson, Lou Montanez, Brad Snyder
