  1. It's ENQUIRING minds want to know. :D http://covers.magazine-agent.com/images/image.aspx?i=1130.jpg&w=303
  2. I said the same thing in another thread. I'd think they'd be available for one inning, no longer.
  3. I would think so, since he put up some fairly good numbers as a closer before this year in addition to his performance as a starter this year. I'm not positive though; I don't know how the formula used accommodates a change in role for a pitcher.
  4. It wasn't Lou who named him to the team.
  5. I think so. If I recall from the past injured players and their replacements all get recognized as All-Stars during the pre-game introductions.
  6. Proposed rule change (if it isn't that way already): If a manager forgets to bench a starting pitcher to stay within the 7-start limit, and that pitcher puts up a negative score, those negative points should count. :D
  7. I like Marmol and think he can rebound, but if he's an All-Star then I'm a trillionnaire. An ERA over 4.00 for a setup man isn't even in the same solar system of being an All-Star. Got to be one of the worst All-Star choices in history, perhaps the worst if you don't consider choices made because of the one-player-per-team rule. And Marmol DESPERATELY needs the time off to rest anyway.
  8. we can't? the cubs have a 5 game lead and are something like a 95% chance to make the playoffs. Make that a 5.5 game lead (largest all year, I believe). Not to mention the largest divisional lead in baseball. Which is even more impressive considering the second and third best teams in the NL are in the same division.
  9. If I recall, the most recent time he lost it was actually in the middle of an outing. I believe the first two batters were easy outs, but then there was a fluke hit, and it's been downhill ever since. Didn't the fluke hit actually go off of his hand, or am I thinking of something else?
  10. TW, for those who laughed at my trade a few weeks ago: Ankiel has been raking lately and Garland has pitched good at times. Meanwhile McGowan is on the DL. Just thought I'd point that out. :D
  11. He looks like a pitcher in this shot. I saw Mays some past his prime since I started following baseball in 1969.
  12. It's amazing. Not too long ago he was the guy they put the special graphics up with fire and all the bells & whistles when he would come in to close a game for the Brewers. Now AAA hitting is pounding the living daylights out of him. Gotta wonder what happened. Did he just have a lucky year or two? Must be 'roids (after all, that seems to some people to be the only explanation for somebody who suddenly starts sucking).
  13. Instead of his previous nickname (Barroids) people should start calling him Bail Bonds. :D
  14. Not to mention that she's a native of the Chicago area. And I believe they actually built a home in the area as opposed to buying an existing home (I remember that from a few years ago). I think he's a lifetime Cub as long as they want him and offer him a fair deal.
  15. I thought the comparison of the Cardinals to Bob Dernier was a good one.
  16. Maybe this explains his struggles the last couple of outings. I don't recall him having any blister problems since 2002 or 2003, so hopefully this is an isolated incident. Several days rest is much more important than a sham save in the All-Star Game. :D

  18. The latest turn in the soap opera is that the Packers have refused Favre's request for a release. They have said that he's welcome to return to the Packers as Rogers' backup, or they may trade him.
  19. Holy overreaction, Batman. Neither Lilly nor Marquis even come remotely close to "brutal." Both have winning records and ERAs of around 4.50 (Marquis slightly below, Lilly a little higher). Both have some starts that are stinkers, but neither has numbers out of line for a 4th or 5th starter.
  20. My team finally has a big day (89 points, which is more than the rest of the week combined). Very nice pitching starts for Santana today and Gallagher yesterday (Gallagher's first start since I promoted him when he lost minor league eligibility). Unfortunately it's too little too late.
  21. And even with a new owner I think Hendry returning is a near certainty. He's had a good run the last couple of years, so I don't see a new owner firing him and having to pay off the remainder of his contract. Extending his contract could be another story.
  22. Brewers assuming Sheets stays healthy. Cardinals if he has a lengthy injury.
  23. you spelled Hurricanes wrong Fixed.if only They did it once; you never know.twice I was thinking of championships as opposed to appearances in the finals. But what you said actually fits in better with the context of the post I was replying to.
  24. He may have been best known for the trade to the Giants for Bobby Bonds, which was considered a blockbuster at the time. Two players who were good but considered by some to be disappointments because they failed to live up to unrealistic expectations (Murcer was supposed to be the next Mickey Mantle; Bonds the next Willie Mays). And both playrs in that trade eventually played for the Cubs (as well as both dying prematurely with brain tumors).
  25. I'm not sure. He has to consider the possibility of the game continuing, and he may have wanted Marshall to continue pitching had the game gone another inning (he's certainly stretched out enough to have been able to do so). The only decision in the game I think was so horrible to be considered unforgiveable was leaving Marmol in the full inning.
