  1. Shark has no value to other teams. He has a NTC how many times does it need to be said? Players can and have waived NTCs how many times does it need to be said?
  2. No they won't. As pointed out in another thread, a pitcher could pitch an inning in the All-Star Game despite starting Sunday because that would be his normal day for throwing between starts anyway.
  3. True or not, I saw it myself. Z is on one of my Yahoo fantasy teams, so that note was on my team page. I did question it, though, because pitchers aren't elected to start. Some are elected to the team by players, but the manager decides who to start.
  4. Just taking a guess here, but I suspect Hendry already knows that the Brewers traded for Sabathia; he probably doesn't need us to call him and tell him that. I suspect he already knows that the Cubs' rotation could use some shoring up; he probably doesn't need us to call and tell him that. What he DOES need is a willing partner since trades involve at least two teams.
  5. What I remember most about 2001 is when the Cubs had an 8-game losing streak, then immediately followed that with a 12-game winning streak. I don't remember any other team going from one extreme to the other that immediately.
  6. Normally a 6-man rotation isn't used especially when there's an off-day involved (as the Cubs have today). I'm guessing this is just a one-time situation this week to buy time until after the break to decide who to bump. I'm OK with it as long as the top starters pitch on normal rest and the lower pitchers get the extra rest.
  7. i was looking at the schedule earlier, and i think you and HBC face off in the next couple of weeks. that will be a big one. We face off next week. It will be an uphill battle for the loser, since we're both currently one game out of the playoffs as it is. I remember last year the short week following the All-Star Game didn't count, but it looks like it does this year. That will likely mean an imbalance in pitching starts between teams, since there won't be any two-start pitchers. Only teams with 7 starting pitchers on their roster would even have a chance at 7 starts, and even then it isn't assured because some starters won't pitch at all next week (especially on teams like the Cubs who are off Thursday and have only 3 games next week).
  8. You're still in first place, so I hope you're not looking for sympathy.
  9. Time for me to stop my three-week slide and get back on the winning track. I'm still in decent playoff contention if I start winning again soon.
  10. I think there's a good chance that the Cardinals will not have one of the three best records by the end of the year.
  11. Lou isn't managing the game; Clint Hurdle of Colorado is (Lou is a coach). The manager of the previous year's league champion is automatically manager. So Lou will be manager NEXT year, but not this year. :D
  12. For ACC fans, the Raleigh, NC CBS station just started a bracket-style contest to pick the greatest ACC team ever.
  13. I want him to get one more start for Mesa, and if that's another good outing maybe it will be time to move him back to Iowa and hope he can continue. I'm trying not to get overly excited over one start, but it's hard not to since this is the first time he's given us a reason to in quite some time.
  14. It might depend on when the player voting took place. If it was before Marmol's slump he really could get in that way. I don't know when that voting took place.
  15. I agree with that. I'm just saying that, if he doesn't make the team, it will be because the spot is needed for a representative from another team, not because of today's outing.I doubt he makes it. We have three guys going for sure. Plus maybe Z or Demp. Plus there are many teams that suck, but have decent closers. Plus you know Hurdle has to take Buchholz off of his own team in that same spot. I say good, give Woody the days off. Again, I agree with that logic. I'd prefer him to get the rest too. I'm just saying that it won't be because of today's game if he doesn't make it. It will be because the spot is needed for a player from another team anyway.
  16. I agree with that. I'm just saying that, if he doesn't make the team, it will be because the spot is needed for a representative from another team, not because of today's outing.
  17. Nobody really knows who the starting pitchers are; that can't be anything more than speculation. Pitchers aren't selected by the fans, so it won't be known until the announcement tomorrow who the pitchers will be.
  18. Not at all. One game does not make or break an All-Star bid. He will either make or not make the team based on the entire season, not one game.I completely disagree. There has to be a cutoff point somewhere, and one game can easily make the difference. His ERA went up half a point and his save percentage dropped, so that can definitely break an All-Star bid. He still has All-Star worthy numbers even with today's performance. I'm not saying he's definitely going to make the team. But if he doesn't it won't be due to one performance. It will be because they need the spot for a player from another team due to the representative from every team rule. That situation would be the same with or without today's stinkfest.
  19. OK, enough of the pissing match. I think we all know where you both stand.
  20. Not at all. One game does not make or break an All-Star bid. He will either make or not make the team based on the entire season, not one game.
  21. Wood has been pitching great until today. I'm happier with Marmol's performance today than upset over Wood's.
  22. I didn't get to watch the game because of the stupid, indefensible Fox blackout, so I was stuck with following it on Gameday. It didn't have the same impact as it would have if I was actually watching the carnage on TV.
  23. 9.75 points for me from DeRosa today: \:D/ 9.75 points for me from Ankiel today:
  24. This isn't last season, though. This is this season.
