  1. Not necessarily. Injury replacements are named by the manager, not by fan voting. My guesses: Soto, Soriano, and Wood are definitely in. Fukudome depends on the voting (last I knew it was close). Dempster and Zambrano both deserve it based on their performances for the year, but I think at least one of them will be left out because of the requirement of at least one player per team. Ramirez is certainly playing like an All-Star, but as others pointed out he's probably third in the pecking order, so if only two 3B are chosen he's likely odd man out. And he might not mind that. If the rumor that his absence is due to the birth of his child he might want to go back home and spend more time with the family anyway (he'd have 4 days this time since the Cubs are off the Thursday after the All-Star Game).
  2. It's now official: Johnson activated from the DL for tonight's game and Patterson optioned to Iowa.
  3. What I like best about my team is my starting pitching depth (although I'd be happier if they were more consistent) and my tag-team bullpen. I also like the production I've gotten lately from Vlad, Drew, and even Ankiel (although admittedly that probably wasn't the best trade I've made).
  4. Scratch that. :D
  5. It was 2005. 2006 was the year that the barely-over-.500 Cardinals won.
  6. It's going to happen this Friday night in St. Louis. Combined no-hitter by Zambrano (7 innings), Marmol (1), and Sham Closer (1). Alas, there will be no celebration. Zambrano will miss the next two months with a broken hand suffered when slamming his glove in disgust after being removed from the game while pitching a no-hitter.
  7. Another nice outing (12 points combined) from my tag-team Angels bullpen. I believe Rodriguez has now tied John Smoltz for the most saves before the All-Star Game.
  8. They probably could, and it could probably be retroactive to the last day he pitched in the minors (yesterday). That would open up a spot on the 40-man roster, but it also means that they couldn't bring him back up before 60 days if he suddenly gets it back again. He could probably pitch in the minors during that time as a rehabilitation assignment.
  9. Not true at all. 15 days is the MINIMUM a player can spend on the DL, not the maximum. There's no limit. Players are frequently placed on the 15-day even when they're out for the year. They're usually not transferred to the 60-day until they need to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
  10. I might trade Arod OR Sizemore for those three, but definitely not both.
  11. Since you're going to be the prognosticator..... are we going to have home field advantage for that series? With all the Cubs likely to be in the All-Star Game it's in the bag.
  12. Double yikes considering that, unlike the Cubs, the Brewers have a track history of turning prospects into productive major leaguers.
  13. I have Liriano in another league, so I'm fine with him coming back too.
  14. I don't believe so, even though he didn't play in 06, I believe his clock started after the 2005 season. One of the reasons I didn't keep him. I'm not so sure under the new exemption rule. This is the exact wording from the rules thread: I interpret this as meaning that since he missed the entire 2006 season it doesn't count, so his exemption years would be 2005, 2007, and 2008. Juan can confirm or correct my interpretation. I always was under the impression that the clock started following the first year a player loses his exemption. If I misinterpreted, oh well I guess... I'm not positive I interpreted right either; that's why we need clarification from Juan. I was thinking of the option analogy myself. A player has three option years, but they don't have to be consecutive years. I was thinking the same thing held for exemptions, but I don't know that as a fact.

  16. So he's served his punishment for pouting and partying. :D
  17. So far so good. Nice production from my offense (especially DeRosa), a fairly good outing from Garland, and my only stinker (Maddux) was on my bench. Considering that the Padres are BigbadB's second favorite team it would be ironic if they help me beat him. :D
  18. Last night should put to rest all foolish thought of trading for Zito.
  19. The game is at Carolina this year. I'm going.
  20. That certainly doesn't qualify as "bereavement" in the usual sense of the word, but it still should be a justifiable reason to replace him on the roster while he's gone. Maybe change the name from bereavement list to family leave list.
  21. Actually, I'd prefer having slightly less myself (when that many starters have two starts in a week that usually means there are very few double starts the week before and after). I like having about 9 or 10 to choose from.
  22. So the Marlins traded him to the Marlins. :D
  23. Or win the All-Star Game.
  24. I know; I really wish I had some flexibility. :D For the most part, making the right choices when I've had excess pitching starts to choose from has been one of the things that I've done well this year. Hopefully that will continue this week.
  25. Sounds like he'd qualify based on the time frame, but without specific details being announced it's hard to know whether his reason for leaving would qualify. My guess is that it would, because I don't think the Cubs would have allowed him to leave for a lesser reason given the current injury problems with other players.
