  1. I remember going into the season many people were predicting the Cubs to win the division based more on the expected weakness of the rest of the division than the expected strength of the Cubs. As it turns out the division has been surprisingly strong so far, and the Cubs are still threatening to make a mockery of it.
  2. Which makes being tied for the biggest lead all the more impressive.
  3. Even forgetting the rivalry, sweeping a series against a first-place team is mighty impressive. This year keeps feeling more special all the time.
  4. 85% of us, to be precise. The other 15%.....
  5. Fixed Fixed again. :D That 22-11 spanking against the team with the best ERA in the game sure is a beautiful sight, isn't it? Makes the Tampa Bay series seem like ancient history.
  6. Yeah, I think Hoffpauir is gone. It's too bad for him, but he'll get more shots with the club, and he'll likely be a big favorite for a bench spot next year. Your bench just has to fill certain gaps though in your ballclub, and the gap he would fit into is already covered on this team. Murton's still a darkhorse to be sent down though just because of how much they like Hoffpauir. Since EPatt can also play 2B I think Fontenot could be on the bubble.
  7. Fixed Fixed again. :D
  8. No. As long as the Cubs have the best record in baseball I could care less that an AL team that we don't play this year has scored more.
  9. Patterson most definitely does NOT go back down right now.
  10. You just said that he's not overrated but he is overrated. :-k
  11. LaRussa's Cubs career was undoubtedly the shortest of all of them. It consisted of one appearance as a pinch runner (1973, I believe). That was the end of his major league career.
  12. Apparently they're going with the extra bat for now. This might be a precautionallry move in case Johnson or Edmonds need DL time. If so, Marshall will be brought up in their spot, if not, Patterson will go back down and Marshall will take his spot. E-Patt must be living out of his suitcase these days. I don't think it was necessarily a precautionary move. I think it's more a case of it being pointless to bring Marshall up now and having him waste a roster spot for a few days. It's fairly common to wait until the day of the start to officially call up a starting pitcher.
  13. Still undecided after the 4th inning today? :D
  14. There's a world of difference between not being very good vs. having a bad year. Many good players have had bad years and rebounded just fine. Will that be the case with Hill? Nobody knows. But it's unquestionably premature to completely write him off.
  15. And naturally Maddux pitched a gem tonight. Add his points in to my score, however, and I'd still be over 60 points behind.
  16. Harang is having a terrible year this year. Since Hendry is likely to go all out to win this year I don't think trading for Harang and hoping he bounces back next year is in the cards.
  17. The waiting is the hardest partEvery day you see one more card You take it on faith, you take it to the heart The waiting is the hardest part
  18. As long as that's where the Prior comparison ends I'm all for that. :D
  19. Idiot me forgot to activate Maddux for tonight's start, so I'll be short on pitching starts. Not that it's likely to make the difference for me this week anyway. Easy to let things slip when you're away on vacation.
  20. That used to be the case, but not any more. The start of interleague play, the elimination of the league presidents, and the elimination of separate umpiring staffs for the two leagues are all moves toward a situation like in football. MLB is analagous to the NFL, and the two leagues are basically the equivalent of the NFC and the AFC. The DH is the only difference that remains, and with the current climate that difference really needs to be eliminated.
  21. Agreed. If I was Lou Piniella, I would tell Soriano, there is no conversation, you will play atleast a weeks worth of games at AAA, before you come back to the majors. Problem is, Lou can't do that. A player must agree to a rehabilitation assignment; the team can't require it. Blame the CBA.
  22. I think he posted a few times here, and I know he did on cubs.com back in the day.
  23. It would be retroactive to today, since he pitched yesterday. If Edmonds and/or Johnson are going to be out longer, and if Zambrano is going to be out long enough to go on the DL, I think the logical move would be to DL Zambrano and call up an OF (I'd prefer Pie) initially, then send a position player down and call up Marshall when Zambrano's turn comes up again. No need to bring up Marshall before the day he'd start.
  24. I'd do this deal. The cubs would bite??? Is he serious? If Cleveland would accept that deal and Hendry didn't pull the trigger, he should be beaten to within an inch of his life. Or worse yet, he should have his lifetime supply of free Krispy Kremes cancelled. :D
