  1. It linked to the wrong video. Click on the link again and find the video that says "Crisp exchange words with Maddon" that is 2:48 long. It's the second slide in the video. Wow. What Crisp did was bull. That slide was ridiculous with intent to injure Iwamura. IMO the ump should have thrown him out. Especially after the way he stalked off proving his intention. Then the yelling F you twice at someone else. Those add up to an automatic ejection in my book. If I was on the Rays I would thrown at his head and done it again the next time he comes up. Simply put what he did was bush league and no one (the league, or other team, or his team) should put up with it. I can't think of a single thing that's happened on the field in the last 25 years that would warrant throwing 1, let alone 2, fastballs at a guy's melon. The slide was bush-league and Shields was right to drill him in the hip, but to suggest he should aim for his head is crazy. Once you try to hurt one of my teammates you become fair game. In most sports its that way. You try to hurt my teammate I'm going to hurt you. You see it in football, hockey, basketball, soccer .. etc. In baseball its you try to hurt my teammate I'll give you a little bruise. You can give someone a little bruise (and a lot more) without aiming at someone's head. When you go for the head you risk killing them, or hurting them so badly that they can never play again (Juan Encarnacion). No, aiming for the head is never justified, period.
  2. I think the Red Sox are most likely, followed by the Angels. Really going out on a limb here.
  3. Hopefully he can keep showing Carpenter stuff without showing Carpenter health. :D
  4. People are entitled to have whatever superstitions they want. They are NOT entitled to expect us to say what can and cannot be discussed on this board based on their superstitions.
  5. Wait a minute. Are you telling me that my mojo for starting game threads doesn't help them win ??? GOOD karma, that's different. :D
  6. Um, Bedard isn't with the Orioles anymore.
  7. I remember that game too. I was listening to the Karros game on WGN radio on my way up to visit my father in Waukegan, and I watched the ESPN game on TV. I remember thinking they were going to blow it.
  8. Like someone said earlier, watching Wood get the final out to win the World Series would be one of the most awesome things I'll ever see. After 100 years, I'll take a sham World Championship. :D
  9. It's getting REALLY annoying seeing people talking about a nonexistent jinx and asking for a lock/delete every time somebody starts a thread pointing out something good about the Cubs. Starting a thread on a message board has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with how the Cubs perform.
  10. Looks like Derosa's dinger tonight may be just enough for me to edge out the Sanitizers for second highest score of the week. Definitely one of my better weeks since joining the league. My offense seems to be getting into gear (Drew was on fire this week) and I kept all my negative pitching starts on the bench.
  11. I had to choose one out of three pitching starts today (Santana, Harang, or Suppan) and I made the right choice (Santana). Suppan would have also been OK; Harang was the stinker. He's really having a terrible year, not looking at all like the ace he's supposed to be. Earlier in the year he was pitching well and was just a victim of non-support, but now he just plain sucks. Bonderman's injury came at the right time for me. :D
  12. I think it's a non-issue. 3 under on the road isn't that bad (sure, it would be nice if it were better). Teams generally play better at home than on the road.
  13. 3 of the 9 "@" games are in Chicago though But that's cancelled out by 3 of the 6 "vs." being against the White Sox. In the games where there's a clear-cut home vs. away it's 6 road vs. 3 home.
  14. Garland's performance for me toda along with another stinker from Arroyo for Juan may have saved me. And Drew has been almost as hot this week as Crede has. I should be OK unless Santana pitches like it's 2007.
  15. Someone needs to take out Crede. He's single-handedly put Juan back into contention against me. A couple of days ago I thought I had it won. Now I think I still have the edge, but it's getting closer than I'd like it to be. I'm one horrendous pitching start away from being in real trouble.
  16. Bye bye Cedric the Drunk; you won't be missed. I think the Bears MUST cut him now. He was a bust anyway, and two arrests for similar charges this close together is unforgiveable. Sign Henry and hope that between him, Peterson, and Forte they can put up a semblance of a running game. Not what the Bears needed during the offseason after a disappointing post-Super Bowl season.

  18. You're full of it. HORRIBLE hire. Sincerely, Milo Hamilton
  19. Saturday, June 7, 2003 was one of the most memorable games in a memorable season. Cubs vs. Yankees at Wrigley Field. Clemens vs. Wood; Clemens going for win #300. That's the game where Choi and Wood collide, with Choi being taken off the field in an ambulance and winding up on the DL. His replacement, Eric Karros, hits a three-run dinger in the 7th to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead (2 more runs score in the 8th; the final score is 5-2 Cubs). For those who would like to relive the details: Box score.
  20. That part of it I don't see. Sending Hart down for Hoff would just get them back to their usual 12 pitchers. I don't see them going back up to 13. That was a short-term move; staying with 13 long-term just leaves the bench too thin.
  21. Could be; basically a self-fulfilling prophesy.
  22. Only one hit allowed, 5 strikeouts in 5 innings, no earned runs allowed, but 7 walks. Good, good, good, very very bad.
  23. Suspensions have been announced. Red Sox: Coco Crisp, 7 games; Jon Lester, 5 games; Sean Casey, 3 games. Rays: James Shields, 6 games; Jonny Gomes and Edwin Jackson, 5 games; Carl Crawford, 4 games; Akinori Iwamura, 3 games. The suspensions were staggered to avoid the teams being too short-handed. So far only Crisp has appealed. Lester will not appeal and will begin serving his today. Shields and Gomes will start serving theirs today unless they appeal.
