  1. FWIW, the odds of a rain delay Thursday night are exactly zero. That doesn't make it any better though. True; I forgot about the dome. There could still be "free baseball," though.
  2. Until a few ears ago the game was actually played on induction weekend. I think moving the game to a different time may have hastened loss of interest.
  3. Otherwise known as Martin.
  4. The U.S. Open has always been that way. Remember, the Open is run by the USGA, not the PGA. Playoff starts tomorrow at noon Eastern time on ESPN, then shifts t NBC at 2:00 P.M. Eastern time.
  5. Imagine the trouble Harry would have had if Sandberg and Sundberg had been Cubs at the same time.
  6. I was at today's game, between home and first (a bit closer to first). There were a lot of Cubs fans at the game. The Cubs are now undefeated all-time in games I attend with the roof open at the beginning of the game and closed during the game. :D
  7. The most recent time I recall that happening was 2004, when the Cubs went nearly a month without a day off at the end of the season. I'm still convinced that was at least part of the reason for the last week collapse. That was due to the hurricane in Florida that postponed an entire Cubs-Marlins series.
  8. I was starting to get very uneasy (my lead had dropped to about 4 points). Then Micah Owings imploded in the 4th and his score turned negative. I'm now up by 17.5, so I'm feeling more confident. Pitching decisions we both made today turned out to be the difference. I had a positive start on my active roster and a negative start reserved, and he had exactly the opposite (at least up to now; Owings could still turn it back positive again).
  9. My understanding is that you can move minor leaguers up and down as long as they maintain minor league eligibility, but there has to be a major league roster spot for that player. So if Tim had dropped a player from his existing roster (or legally transferred a player to an open DL slot) then I think he would be allowed to move the player up and back down. I did that myself with Matt Murton a few years ago.
  10. Apparently Yahoo didn't send out an automated e-mail like I thought they did (they did for another league I started, so I'm not sure why they didn't for this league). I just sent out an e-mail through Yahoo with the information (and this time I know it went out, because I got a copy). For those who hid their e-mail addresses but I was able to determine their NSBB names I sent a PM through NSBB instead. There's one league member (perhaps a lurker rather than a poster) who hid his/her e-mail address last year and also didn't provide an NSBB name, so I was not able to contact that person. If for some reason you did not get the e-mail or PM (for example, if your e-mail address has changed) please send me a PM, give me either your team name from the league last year or your Yahoo ID for verification purposes, and I'll send you the information. Once there has been a reasonable period for last year's members to sign up again I'll see if there are any vacancies to fill, and if so they'll be filled first-come, first-serve. The Golden Thunder has already spoken for the first vacancy, if there are any.
  11. One of those times has to be a mistake (even though the other teams' web sites show the same times). There's NO WAY they can legitimately schedule a team for a night game (which could end very late if there's a rain delay or extra innings), then have the team fly back and play the next afternoon. Totally out of the question.
  12. That makes more sense than my thought, since it relates to an individual forum. For me the Subscribe option is below rather than above the posts. That may be a board style (prosiilver vs. subsilver) issue.
  13. I think he wins (really going out on a limb, predicting him to win a major when he's leading going into the final round).
  14. Look up 9 posts.
  15. He's a Cub. I always accept all Cubs when they're playing well.
  16. not much of a fan then, IMO. He's a pastor. I can see why that background would make him consider character important.
  17. He's upset about Edmonds, Gaetti, and Osborne becoming Cubs, but no mention of Marquis. He's probably glad Marquis signed with the Cubs.
  18. My attitude all along was, once he became a Cub, I was rooting for him to do well. I wasn't expecting him to, but I was rooting for him to.
  19. Earlier tonight I thought I had it wrapped up, but then Santana imploded and turned what looked like a good outing into negative points. I still lead by over 15 points (with a few games still going on) with one start apiece tomorrow, but it's closer than I'd like it to be. I need for Maddux to have another good outing.
  20. Berkman isn't a Cub last I checked, so off to General Baseball Discussion. If the Cubs ever trade for him I'll move the thread back. :D
  21. There's an option under User Control Panel>Board Preferences>Edit Posting Defaults where you can turn on or off notifying upon replies by default. I don't know if that will solve the problem, since from what you said it's just in the one forum, but it may be worth trying.
  22. Wow, Moistness only stayed off the DL a week or so this time. This is bad even by his standards.
  23. What exactly about the Cubs' play this year makes it seem like they will "probably take a nosedive" after losing one player? I'm not saying the loss won't be felt, but the Cubs are hardly a one-man team.
  24. His injury history might be a consideration as well.
