  1. Actually it's elbow problems. A stress fracture in his elbow last year that required surgery, and another stress fracture in his elbow this year.
  2. Time to stop pitching him in blowouts. Actually I prefer that he be used in less intense situations until we are sure he is back up and running. He hadn't pitched since the ASG, so he does have to stay sharp. With Kerry not able to go right now, you need to make sure that Marmol keeps his confidence up. To me today was a good outing for him. Demp finally got the road win out of the way, and Carlos got a bit of work. No harm done. Now if the same thing were to happen tomorrow, then I would question it.. Not to mention the game wasn't a blowout at the time he started warming up and the decision to not pitch Dempster in the 9th was made. It became a blowout in the top of the 9th.
  3. Orioles' pitcher Adam Loewen is giving up pitching due to multiple stress fractures in his elbow. He plans to resume his career as a hitter next spring. The challenge is for the Orioles to find a way to send him to the minors so he can work on his hitting next spring; he's out of options.
  4. Getting really close to wait 'til next year time for my team. I may be starting a fire sale within the next week leading up to the trading deadline.
  5. No need to trade for a starter to replace Marquis. We already have that starter: Sean Marshall. What we need is for the Cubs to realize that Marshall is better than Marquis.
  6. Check out the IP of some of the top AL Cy Young candidates that year: Jim Palmer -296 Nolan Ryan - 326 Catfish Hunter -256 Wilbur Wood - 359 Jim Colborn - 314 Vida Blue - 264 Bert Blyleven - 325 Gaylord Perry - 344 That's the year Wood had both 20 wins and 20 losses (Knucksie did the same thing a few years later). Interestingly Wood had 20 wins again the next year and 20 losses again the following year.
  7. Perfect inning in the All-Star Game, perfect inning today. Maybe he's over the rough stretch.
  8. Very good game for him today. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround.
  9. Any way I can have BOTH starts wiped out instead? :D
  10. I unexpectedly have an excess start because Jackson (originally scheduled to pitch tomorrow) is pitching today. I sent Juan a PM asking Jackson to count and Perez to be deducted. At the time I'm writing this they're within 1/2 point of each other.
  11. I'm down by 21 but with a 1-0 pitching start advantage remaining. It could go right down to the wire. I had to choose between Garland, who's a question mark because of a stiff neck (his start was already pushed back a day) or Perez, who I picked up just to make ends meet this week (before it was determined that Garland would even pitch at all this week). Watch Perez suck and Garland pitch a gem.
  12. The Cubs' biggest need? Some runs.
  13. No, it isn't. Not a valid comparison; totally different situation. The NL and AL are both in the major leagues. The Japanese Central League isn't. This is Kosuke's first major league season. Logic and reason has no place in this discussion. Oops.

  15. Pretty good career yards-per-reception average. :D
  16. Which they just did. Eaton has been demoted to the bullpen to make room in the rotation for Blanton.
  17. A back-and-forth game of one-downsmanship. :D
  18. Extra Innings (through DirecTV), with Gameday for the games blacked out on EI (i.e. Saturday afternoon games) or day games when I'm at work.
  19. We actually used to have one. It was called Rivalries. :D
  20. In after the lock. YES! How did I know that'd be the first thing you'd do as a mod? He's learning the fine art of abusing mod powers. :D
  21. And I heard that if they can't get him their next target will be Huston Street. :D
  22. good point. pujolspower Winner!
  23. I'd agree with you if he were considered to have fifth round talent and the Cubs overpaid. But when a player has a higher talent level and drops just due to signability concerns I think it's fair to evaluate him compared to his perceived talent level rather than his actual draft round. I don't recall whether he was generally considered to have first-round talent, but I do think he was at least considered a 2nd- or 3rd-rounder by talent, so I think it would be fair to judge him accordingly.
  24. If he were still a Cub I might have voted for RingtheBallhorn (has a nice ring to it, pardon the pun), but since he isn't it's GeoPower.
