  1. Ted? Isn't he dead? Not according to his Baseball Reference page.
  2. Except Bob Howry. Unless just the one HR was better than the expectation. Great game for Howry in the sense that he only allowed the Brewers to tie the game rather than take the lead.
  3. After winning this game I think a split is the WORST likely outcome of the series, and 3 of 4 is very realistic.
  4. Better still, an O.J. Simpson. With a Harding he'd eventually be able to come back. i dont think we should be seriously talking about murdering bob howry OJ didn't kill anyone If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit.

  6. Cubs just regain the lead against the Brewers and Sabathia is out of the game, and Lou trots in Howry. Me no likey. :(
  7. More trading deadline action in Roadkill than in MLB.
  8. I think, though, that Fox would suffice as a THIRD catcher (who would only catch in an emergency). I think that's more likely than using a 40-man roster spot on somebody who would be nothing but a third catcher. And I see the other Fox (Chad) as more likely a 60-day DL move to provide postseason roster flexibility than a September callup.
  9. In the East, the revamped NC Cubs try to play spoiler against the Galesburg Hand Sanitizers and end a 6-game losing streak (which, surprisingly, isn't the longest losing streak in the league).
  10. No, "everybody" is not starting to panic. I'm not even close to panicking.
  11. That's right, but it's also not like selling a privately held company. Similar fiduciary obligations/issues apply as in the sale of a public company. The fact that those harmed by acceptance of a lower bid are employees of the Tribune makes it all the less likely. I think a key issue, though, is that it's the Trib that has the fiduciary responsibility, not MLB. If the Trib accepts the highest bid but MLB doesn't approve it the Trib couldn't be held liable. They will have done their part. Sam Zell doesn't appear to be the type of guy that will would go down quietly. He bought the Tribune Co. to make money, and if Cuban is offering the most money, he is going to move heaven and earth to make sure that Cuban is approved. And I hope he succeeds (I'm all for Cuban). However, if they're hell-bent against it, Zell can't FORCE MLB to approve Cuban.
  12. If you're talking about the move made when Wood returns it would have to be Eyre. Lieber is already on the DL, so releasing him now wouldn't free up a roster spot for Wood. Releasing Eyre would make room for Wood. Given the market for LHP right now, I'd have to assume we'd trade Eyre rather than release him... somebody would certainly want him. I still think Cotts gets sent down. I think Cotts probably will be the odd man out since he's the one who can still be optioned. My comments that you quoted were meant specifically in the context of if it came down to Eyre or Lieber, which is what the poster I was repling to said.
  13. Um, they were already in the division. Easy to forget that, though, since my team has disappeared for over the past month.

  15. Unless I really get floored with an offer between now and the trading deadline I'm probably done making trades for now. I've given my team quite an extreme makeover the past week or so. I may go back the other way some during the postseason trading period leading up to the keeper deadline. I've shedded quite a few points, so I may be in a position to take on points from a team needing to get rid of points to get under the limit.

  17. The Cubs announcers noticed it too. I don't recall whether it was Len or Bob, but one of them quipped during the game today that Eyre leads the league in warming up in the bullpen without actually appearing in a game.
  18. I think the Cubs either split or take 3 of 4. I'm into aiming high this year rather than settling for good enough, so I voted 3 of 4.
  19. It will be interesting to see how my recent fire sale changes the face of the East for the rest of this year.
  20. And the Brewers and Cardinals are both 0-1. The title of this thread reminds me of a year in the 1970s (I don't remember the specific year) when the Sox were owned by Bill Veeck. They were having a horrible year, so in true Bill Veeck fashion they actually held a second Opening Day. They said they were looking at the rest of the season as a fresh start, and they actually went through the usual Opening Day festivities again. I don't remember reading anything about how the other team liked that idea.
  21. I don't think the Cubs are ready to part company with Howry, unfortunately. Lou keeps trotting him out at the most important times (when Marmol can't go). I think Shark has made a good impression on Lou and first impression for Lou seem to count a lot. I think Shark pushes everyone except for Marmol and Wood into the, "when did he last pitch?" category. That seems to be Lou's M.O. My guess is that Lieber has thrown his last pitch for the Cubs. Lieber's already on the DL, though, so that wouldn't have anything to with the move made when Wood returns. I think we're both basically saying the same thing, that Howry probably SHOULD go but Cotts probably WILL go. Another factor is that Cotts is still in an option year, meaning he could be sent back down again, whereas Howry would have to be DFA'd.
  22. It will be interesting to see what happens when Wood returns. I think the assumption at first was that Shark would be going back to Iowa, but I don't think that's the case now. Cotts may be on the chopping block unless the Cubs are ready to cut ties with Howry. I don't see Marshall going back down because he seems to be piggybacking with Harden.
  23. Apparently it is.
  24. Yeah, Carpenter will have so few points this year he'd almost be like an exempt player.
  25. I'm in a keeper league on CBS Sportsline. I don't know anything about the others.
