  1. Panthers' single-game tickets went on sale at 10:00 this morning. I completed my purchase of a ticket for the Sept. 14 Bears at Panthers game by 10:02. \:D/
  2. That's right. What I don't agree with is that players have to be on the in-season PUP list before the first game; nobody can be added to that list after the season starts. So if a player gets hurt in, say, the second game and is expected to have to miss 6 weeks he either has to remain on the roster for those 6 weeks or else be put on IR and miss the rest of the season.
  3. This is his first year as Latin America Field Coordinator, but his 11th year in the organization. He was with Mesa the past 10 years, including stints as Manager (1999--2003, 2006). I think he may have been hitting coach during the other years.
  4. I think he'll go on the 60-day DL as soon as they need a spot on the 40-man roster for somebody else. No need to do it until then; he's not really wasting a spot on the 40-man roster when it's currently one under the limit anyway.
  5. Ohio does the work, North Carolina gets the glory. Sounds fair to me. :D
  6. This idea does seem interesting to me, but I really don't think I have enough time to devote to it. I'm already spreading myself a bit thin when it comes to fantasy baseball (three leagues, two different types). Between my job, travelling a fair amount during the summer, and other interests I don't think I could do justice participating in four leagues of three different types. I enjoy fantasy baseball, but there's a limit. So I think I'll have to pass for now, but that could change in the future if replacement managers are eventually needed. Caveat: My comments are based on the assumption that we're talking about a new league as opposed to restructuring the existing league. As has been pointed out by others, if we're talking about restructuring the existing league it realistically couldn't be done until 2010 since draft picks for 2009 are already being traded.
  7. Agreed. It bugs the heck out of me that he's still on the 40 man. Get someone else on there for once! He's not taking a space from anybody, there is already an open slot available. It would be better to put him on the 60-day DL. That's consistent with what they both said, since putting him on the 60-day DL would take him off the 40-man roster. Actually 60-day DL keeps him on the 40-man but allows the team an extra spot. Taking him off the 40-man means releaseing him entirely. While that may be fun, it really doesn't help the Cubs. I think we're thinking the same thing but debating semantics. The main point, which we're both saying, is that it allows another player to be added to the 40-man roster. If you look at any of the mlb.com affiliated team sites, their 40-man rosters show players on the 60-day, but along with a footnote that says "not on 40-man roster."
  8. That one I forgot about. You're right; he was originally signed by the Royals, then voided.
  9. Yup, real clever and mature of you. Very mature of me for stating facts? Are you arguing that his tenure was a success with the Cubs? What metric are you basing this on? Perhaps based on the fact that the Cubs made the postseason twice during his tenure, which is equal to the number of times they made the postseason in over 50 years before then? I'm not saying his tenure was a complete success; there were good moments and bad moments. But to call him a complete failure is way off base. You have pretty low expecations for success I guess. I didn't say I considered his time a complete success. I just said it wasn't the utter failure some people make it out to be. Sure I want more. I want a championship just like everybody else does. But I do think some progress was made under MacPhail, not just two playoff appearances but also a greater percentage of winning seasons than the Cubs have had in quite some time. It was time fo him to go when he did, and things have gotten better still since he left, but that still doesn't make him a total failure. In any event, demeaning nicknames that some people use (such as MacPhail and MacFailure) are immature, childish, and uncalled for. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's reall what Tim had in mind when he started this board at his own personal expense.
  10. How much of that could be related to possible elbow problems? I know fastball command is heavily affected by elbow problems (velo not so much which is odd in this case). Also, how much does TJ affect changeups on the way back? I can't think of many guys other than Angel Guzman who had TJ and have a good changeup. Guzman's change came all the way back, although command of his fastball didn't appear to. And a quick rant (no offense) quality of feel/finesse pitches vary a lot from start to start, it's possible you saw him on a bad day considering you just saw him once. However, given the elbow problems you're probably not catching him on a bad day. Guzman just had TJS last summer so I don't think you've seen him come back from it...have you? ETA: What were his arm problems before? Shoulder? Brain fart. I don't know why I was thinking TJ for him before. He had elbow problems at time though iirc. My recollection is that Guzman's previous problems resulted in labrum surgery. I'm not sure about previous elbow issues, but there certainly could have been. It's hard to keep up with all his injuries.
  11. What do Bob Howry, Blake Parker and Zach Ashwood have in common? :( I'll take "Pitchers who blow games" for $1,000, Alex.
  12. Notre Dame education. :) DIE RAISIN DIE :D what do you care, you went to Ball St. Watch it; I went to Ball State too. And you also like NC State? I truly feel sorry for you. You must be confusing me with someone else when it comes to NC State. I'm a fan of Indiana and Kentucky (strange combination, but I went to graduate school at UK after I was already an IU fan).

  14. Even if he were, there's no reason he shouldn't be kicked off the team for that. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Who in their right mind would throw a baseball at someone from 5 feet away? I'm actually glad it hit a fan because that means more will be done to him. Just completely insane. Assult with a deadly weapon might be an option. He better hope the fan is ok. The fan is expected to be ok. I still think he's got a whopper of a lawsuit against Castillo (and perhaps the Chiefs) if he chooses to pursue it. I'll say. That fan will never have to pay for Peoria Chiefs tickets again, if he ever chooses to attend another game. The game was actually at Dayton, so he's probably not a Chiefs' fan to start with.
  15. He's currently the Cubs' Latin America Field Coordinator. He's filling in as Peoria manager while Sandberg is in Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
  16. According to today's telecast Harden will start tomorrow.
  17. Giles activated at OF to replace Drew.
  18. I think he'd be the logical choice. Perhaps a resumption of the Pie Johnson platoon.
  19. That was Joe Lieberman. And Billy Crystal was told to wait by the phone. I heard that Garth Brooks has his batting gloves all washed and ironed... Time for Michael Jordan to resume his minor league career.
  20. Not a step forward, not a disaster either. I think his general recent trend is still positive and tonight was just hopefully a blip.

I still think he's got a whopper of a lawsuit against Castillo (and perhaps the Chiefs) if he chooses to pursue it. There are signs up warning fans to beware of balls leaving the field of play... I wonder how much that'll help their defense? I doubt it would. The warnings relate to accidents (such as foul balls being hit into the stands). I doubt they'd cover an intentional act. I'm not a lawyer so I could be wrong, but that's how it seems to me it would likely be.

  24. He's at the HOF ceremony. Ah; I forgot that was this weekend.
  25. Why do the Chiefs have an interim manager? What's up with Ryno? If anything was said about that I missed it.
