  1. Maybe you should be the next person to openly campaign. :D
  2. Perhaps I just overlooked him, but I don't remember Carlton Fisk being there either.
  3. That would almost be like a battery of Scott Service and Scott Servais.
  4. Interesting; only 6 people changed their wild card entries.
  5. Yeah, if only the Cubs had Jordan instead of Bowie in 84 they surely would have closed out the Padres in the NLCS and advanced to the World Series. :D
  6. Then what's Ronnie Woo-Woo? :D
  7. I edited the original post to make it a clickable link to the article.
  8. Just as a suggestion, for a short period of time (such as a week or so) you might say something like "formerly MurtonFan" in your signature. Many posters have done that when changing usernames to help people keep up with changes.Jon mentioned that, so I did.Aha; I must have just overlooked it before.

  10. I approve of this message. :D My starting pitching staff as it stood at the start of the week only had 2 scheduled starts (just about all of my starters were scheduled to pitch Monday or Tuesday of next week). Fortunately I was able to replace a couple of my lower-end pitchers with free agents to get 4 for this week. Marshall has little value now that he's in the bullpen, and Gallagher, although I think he'll be a good starter, really seems interchangeable with a lot of other available starters now, so I deemed them expendable.
  11. And even if they're not playing better on the road, they're playing good enough to win 1 of 4 on the road if they can sweep at home (which isn't a stretch at all).
  12. Any idea why they chose Daytona over Iowa? The extra day almost certainly helped. He's going to pitch tomorrow for Daytona, but would have had to wait until at least Friday for Iowa. Every extra day is important at this point because he still has a certain number of starters (probably around 4 I would say) where he has to show good control in order to be brought up, and it doesn't honestly really matter if the last 2 of those are with Iowa or the last 4 are. But giving him extra rest at this point does hurt, because it lengthens the timeframe. Not surprising that level doesn't matter much for Hill's situation. If his problem was that he was being hit hard, as opposed to wild, then level would matter because of the quality of competition. But since the issue is finding the strike zone it doesn't matter, since the strike zone is the same regardless of the level of competition. if you've watched enough minor league baseball, you realize this is not always the case. OK, the THEORETICAL strike zone is the same.
  13. I don't really think so. I'd rather he have TJS now then 5 or so years from now when he might have to miss a season at the major league level.

  15. I voted for the league with the better record because of the unbalanced schedule issue. There's an unbalanced schedule within the league too, but at least everybody plays the same teams, even if the number of games against teams differs.
  16. My response, had that been an option, would be that home field advantage CAN make a difference but won't matter that much to the Cubs. The Cubs are so unbeatable at home this year that it isn't a stretch to imagine them sweeping three World Series games at home. If they can do that, they'd only have to go 1-3 on the road to win the Series, and I think they can do that without much trouble.
  17. Absolutely not. It's unfair that the Cubs lost home field advantage (assuming they make it to the Series in the first place) because a Brewer couldn't throw out the runner at the plate. and dan uggla couldn't... well, do anything. Yes, his performance was downright Uggly. :D
  18. that show was weird. I could never figure out where they held it. Some stadium with 15 foot ivy covered walls and houses behind them I'm pretty sure those were all filmed at Wrigley Field....but the one in Los Angeles. It was. meaning what, a studio lot? No. There was a minor-league park in LA named Wrigley Field where they filmed those. That's where the Los Angeles Angels played back when they were a AAA team in the Pacific Coast League. I think the Cubs may have played Spring Training exhibition games there at one time, but I'm not positive on that.
  19. Hopefully his inning in the All-Star Game can help him get back on track. That was a positive in an otherwise disappointing outcome.
  20. You should have e-mailed Hurdle with those instructions instead of posting it on a message board. :D

  22. So that's what he did before becoming an actor. :D
  23. Wasn't Walrond released as well? Also, does Chad Fox still belong on that list since he's now on the 40-man roster (albeit on the DL)? Note: I'm talking about the free agent list, not Rule 5.
  24. I'll probably watch that channel A TON. Especially if they show a lot of historical games from the 50's or 60's. Stuff like that. That would be especially interesting. The network would be worthwhile just for that, regardless of other programming. Apart from the games themselves it would be a good chance to hear some of the gread announcers from the past.
