  1. Wow. At first I misread your post and thought you said Daytona, so I was wondering if Hill was involved.
  2. I disagree with the notion that bringing Shark up is a bad thing, as long as it's just for a week or two while waiting for Wood to return. I don't think that would hinder his development any, and it might help keep his innings for the year at a reasonable level. Several other Cubs over the past few years (Marmol and Marshall come to mind) seem to have benefitted from early call-ups that gave them a chance to get any jitters they might feel the first time up out of the way before they come up for good. And as a couple others have pointed out, Shark has already used the option for this year, whereas bbringing Ceda up and sending him back down would burn an option. The 40-man roster issue isn't a big deal, but burning an option could be.
  3. impeding? was that intentional? if so, well played. Waiting until tomorrow impede's the Cubs' chances tonight since they're short-handed.
  4. Agreed. It bugs the heck out of me that he's still on the 40 man. Get someone else on there for once! He's not taking a space from anybody, there is already an open slot available. It would be better to put him on the 60-day DL. That's consistent with what they both said, since putting him on the 60-day DL would take him off the 40-man roster.
  5. Doesn't sound like you're picking up good vibrations. :D
  6. ...and struck out. But at least it showed that he isn't seriously injured. I'll take it.
  7. I'm willing to listen to trade offers. I've already made one trade this week, am negotiating for another possible trade, and would consider others. My main interests would be good exempt players, top prospects, and/or draft choices. Players like Vlad would certainly cost a lot more than others, but I'm not Elliott Ness; I don't have any Untouchables. :D
  8. And lose one of their best pinch hitters? :D
  9. No. This was just a Gorden Wiittenmeyer article. Nothing to see here, move along now... Actually I think it makes sense. Samardz is pitching great now, and I think he could do well in the bullpen. I woulcn't want him to be sitting idly in the bullpen for a long time, but calling him up for a week or so would give him some exposure to the majors. Several other Cu players have had initial call-ups for short periods of time over the past couple of years, then went back down and thrived after being called up for longer stints later (Marmol is a case in point). And I don't think just a couple of weeks is enough time to really delay his development; if anything it may avoid having him pitch too many innings this year.
  10. Gotta save that year of arbitration, though. Who needs Liriano in the majors when they can trot out Livan Hernandez instead? I thought that clock only started once and then kept going unless a player is disabled? I thought so too, but apparently not since there have been so many articles speculating that's why Liriano is being kept down.
  11. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50049
  12. Oh, I'm definitely happy with Theriot this year. Fontenot too, for that matter. They have both been unexpected surprises.
  13. Steve Trachsel was the human rain delay. Hill is the human rainout.
  14. I'd be interested on RedIvyCub's take on it now, especially whether she thinks Cuban's chances have gone up with Canning apparently out of the picture.
  15. Not really. The topic is about a new poster coming on with an in-your-face "I told you so" message to people who criticized Theriot in the past.
  16. I believe so. If I remember correctly it was first thought to be sprained byt later discovered to have been broken. I don't know if it was the same ankle that he hurt this time.
  17. what happened that really sucks if true Hurt his leg/ankle sliding into second base on a double. According to E.J. in the games thread it isn't a sprain and he should be OK. If so, whew!
  18. Tomorrow, with Daytona.
  19. Gotta save that year of arbitration, though. Who needs Liriano in the majors when they can trot out Livan Hernandez instead?
  20. Ugh. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
  21. Hopefully Soriano WON'T be playing for Iowa. He's desperately needed elsewhere in Arizona.
  22. If he translates into an All-Star appearance at 1B he can pitch in the 17th inning next year. The way he has pitched the past month he will just blow it and the NL will just lose again. Nah, he'll give up the lead with his pitching but then win the game with his bat.
  23. I'm unfamiliar with what you are talking about, please explain more. I don't remember specifics (or even if specifics were mentioned yet). I do remember reading that the Hall was planning to make changes to the process for the Veterans Committee after three consecutive elections failed to result in any inductees. I think the consensus was that it used to be too easy to get in via that route (Bill Mazeroski being elected was used as an example) but now it's too hard (nobody getting in the last three elections), so they're trying to find some middle ground. I'm basing my comments on what I read in the past, so my recollection may not be completely accurate.
  24. That's just a BS excuse. They're only leaving Liriano down to delay his eligibility for arbitration, just like his agent is claiming.
  25. I'm not at all sure he won't get in until after he dies. I believe the Veterans Committee is supposed to be modified again before the next election, so I think it's highly possible that a change in the makeup of the committee will get him elected next time. If not for the farce of electing Bill Mazeroski the Veterans Committee probably would never have been changed in the first place and he'd probably be in by now.
