  1. Basically 4 series each, or 12 games, not that big of a deal. In other words, no more than at present, just spread out more. The DH wouldn't really be an issue; it would just continue as present (DH in AL parks, pitchers bat in NL).
  2. According to the schedule on DirecTV's web site the Cubs will be the Fox game shown in North Carolina tomorrow. \:D/ Nonetheless the Fox blackout is still indefensible and must be eliminated by next year. If necessary, MLB needs to inform Fox that the current contract WILL be modified to eliminate the blackout or else Fox has a 0% chance of being allowed to continue televising major league baseball after the contract expires.
  3. As evidenced earlier this year when somebody edited Kerry Wood's page to include a sham closer reference (which I think has since been removed).
  4. Similar story to Tony Conigliaro. He appeared to be a star in the making in the mid-60s (led the AL in home runs in 1965) until he got beaned in the cheek in 1967. He suffered retina damage and missed the rest of 1967 and all of 1968. He came back strong in 1969 (Comeback Player of the Year) and 1970, but didn't amount to anything after that because of the eye damage. He was finished as a productive player at 25. He then suffered a heart attack followed by a stroke in 1982 and was basically in a coma the rest of his life until he died in 1990.
  5. No, Steve Rain has NOT signed with the Dbacks. :D
  6. I think there should be a rule against granting time once the pitcher has started his windup.
  7. I wish I could, but I have a 2 year contract with DishNetwork that Id have to buy my way out of. Thank God for the games on WGN they are the only games I can watch, with the exception of games on ESPN or Fox. Hell I'd pay 400.00 if I could get all the games *sigh*. The bright side is that Dish has WGNHD so all the games that are on WGN are in HD. I wind up listening to alot of games on XM. It sucks that Dish decided to shaft all its baseball fans this way, but Im not buying out of my contract to sign another one with DirectTV which Id have to again buy myself out of when I finally find a new house (been looking for about a year). The wife hates satelite and I'd never be able to convince her to go with another satelite company when cable is an option. If I could get highspeed internet Id probably watch games on the internet. Living here in the boondocks really sucks  You should just refuse to pay the early termination fee. Dish basically breached your contract and forfeited their right to enforce it when they dropped Extra Innings (that is, assuming you were already under the contract at the time they dropped it).
  8. How prophetic, mentioning Favre and the Jets in the same post. :D
  9. I'd HOPE an NFL team could beat a Division 1-AA college team. :D
  10. His dad said in another thread that its only a pulled muscle and no damage to the rotator cuff or labrum. That's good. Hopefully he'll only miss 15 days.
  11. A live online draft is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25 at 9:30 P.M. Eastern time. Anybody who can't participate at that time can prerank players in advance (or else use the default Yahoo rankings). The draft order will be determined at random.
  12. Why? It's not like any success he has will hurt the Cubs (interleague play is over for this year, and the Orioles won't be playing the Cubs in the World Series). I think it would be a good story. Maybe I hold a grudge because of his unreached expectations. I'm not sure how much of that is his fault and how much is the Cubs' development personnel. I think it's some of each.
  13. I don't think so. The Cubs can beat those pitchers at home. I think they can beat them, period. But I'd still rather not face them (well, Webb and Haren)... I'd rather face them than have to play all three postseason series with the majority of games on the road.
  14. I don't think so. The Cubs can beat those pitchers at home.
  15. there's no way that certain teams (yankees/red sox) would agree to that. and frankly it would be unfair to them. they didn't have a wildcard pre-1993. It's not unprecedented to have both teams not make the playoffs every year. I'm pretty sure that the D-Backs wanted to be an AL team since the time they were created, so they would seem like the natural team to move in an expansion scenario It's not that the Yankees and Red Sox have to make the playoffs, but that generally they are two of the best teams in the AL so having them in the same division wouldn't be fair to them if only one of them was going to make the playoffs every year. It doesn't just go for those two teams but for the divisions in general. The year the Mariners won 116 games, the A's won 100+ and had the second best record in the AL. Under the four divisions, four teams per division, one playoff spot per division format, that team would have missed the playoffs. well you can't expand the playoffs anymore unless you cut some regular season games I never said the playoffs had to be expanded. so you're arguing against a 4 division per league format then. No, he's arguing against having a wild card. Four division winners per league with no wild card isn't expanding the playoffs.
  16. Doesn't this cross the line just a little bit? If he's serious (which I don't think he is), yes.
  17. I've got this error message on two different occasions today (the second time it didn't last as long as the first): Also, twice today I've had strange goings-on within a single thread. The thread keeps showing that there are unread posts, yet when I click on the icon to go to the first unread post it instead goes to the very first post in the forum. But when I leave that thread it still shows unread posts even though there haven't been any additional posts made. Edit: Before it goes to the first post in the thread I get a message saying "If your browser doesn't support meta redirection please click here to be redirected."
  18. I hadn't heard that, but depending on when that happened it could explain why Lou refused to use Eyre after returning from the DL until he was so rusty he was almost guaranteed to suck.
  19. I care because of the difference between the Cubs' play at home vs. on the road this year. The Cubs could have the second best record in the entire league as the wild card and still not be allowed to have home field advantage for any postseason series.
  20. I think it's a matter of Marshall being able to do just as good. And for less. Marquis is a sunk cost. He's also an opportunity cost (every game he starts is a game Marshall is not starting).

  22. Hopefully it's an issue of getting the rust off combined with their bus breaking down and them getting to the game late. But 2 straight horrid control games is not good. Sigh. well he'd better get his act together soon... he's on his way to being the fastest #1 draft pick bust since len bias. You have to be effing kidding me. sorry, i'll use green font next time. You've been critical of enough prospects (I'm not saying it isn't justified) that it's hard to tell you were being sarcastic.
