  1. Here's to the Cards having a 6-18 caliber month iN September. (A reverse of August, as you can imagine)
  2. Buster Olney on BBTN just announced that it will be two prospects and a PTBNL for Scott Kazmir. It's a done deal.
  3. Just let them have him. No need to get anything back for a mediocre pitcher. Just free up a spot for somebody like Stevens.
  4. My initial thought was I thought Reed Johnson was back off the DL and somehow dealt to the Mets. It didn't dawn on me till I look at the boxscore you are talking about Jeremy Reed.
  5. That Pittsburgh game worries me more then the Green Bay game. Both the Bears and Steelers will be coming off playing tough teams in the first game (GB and Tennessee) and thus that game could be two teams searching for a win. The GB game will be a test, but the Pittsburgh game will proved the real test to see where the Bears are offensively and defensively. I believe the Bears can beat the Steelers but that game will not be one for those who don't like the hard and physical game. Should be fun. Quirky stats: Since 2002 the Bears are 5-2 in week 2 games and the Steelers are 4-4 in week 2 games. The last time the Bears played the Steelers on the road was that famous muddy and snowing game of 2005. (L 21-9). The last time the Bears played the Steelers at home was in 1995. (L 37-34) But the Bears do hold the head to head meetings with an overall record of 16-7-1 against the Steelers.
  6. train wreck .v. sinking ship. Baseball fever......catch it.
  7. And if the Cubs do trade Harden and Heilman (moreso about the former not the latter) then you have given up the season. Which means there should be no reason to keep playing Soriano or for that matter ARam on less then fully healed injuries. At this point, I have no problem with Fox at 3rd and Fuld in CF with Fukudome in RF and Bradley in LF.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4427171&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines It saying here (by Bruce Levine) is that it maybe the Minnesota Twins who put the claim on Harden.
  9. There should be no reason why Heilman is on the Cubs come September 1. But we know he will be.
  10. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1734893,CST-SPT-cubnt26.article I get his desire to play everyday, in fact I respect that out of Soriano, but he isn't helping the Cubs or himself by continuing to play on one leg. With this season nearing the end there is no risk in sitting him down for 2 weeks seeing where he is at health wise. IMO, Hendry AND Piniella needs to tell Soriano that he will be put on the DL for at least two weeks. This is a case of the Cubs management having to protect Soriano from Soriano himself.
  11. Considering the Cards won't have much to play for during the last month of the season, it wouldn't surprise me if the Cards pull back on Carp and Wainwright.
  12. At this point I think if the Cubs can get a good offer for Bradley, and I think they will/could make that trade. Outside of Bay/Holliday there is not a better and younger option then Bradley. Exclude Bay and Holliday and the best OF options are in their mid to late 30s that includes Abreu, Guerrero, Cameron. If you can replace Bradley with somebody like Bay or Holliday I would be pleasantly surprised. I'm not holding my breathe, tho.
  13. The Dodgers haven't play good ball since April. I would not be surprise if the Rockies ulitmately win the division and the Dodgers missing the playoffs.
  14. If Cutler could back it up the Broncos would have been in the playoffs last year. Nice try. Cutler's job isn't to play defense, or call defensive plays, so how was it his fault the Broncos didn't make the playoffs last yr?
  15. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-25-bears-dusty-dvoracek-aug25,0,4640756.story As Hall7810 mention, it sounds like Dusty may not be done yet. So who knows.... Now we officially know what it will take to re-sign Cutler long-term. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4418854
  16. What do you expect from a team who's manager believes that every team in baseball "cheats" when they play against his team.
  17. Actually, if the Cubs were to make a miraculous 1969 type Mets run or a 2007 Rockies run, they would need Soriano to go on one of his amazingly hot streaks. Again, not going to happen, but I think he would have to be a part of it. Excluding a short run in the second half, Soriano hasn't been productive since April. I think for the rest of the yr, Fox gives he Cubs a better chance to win then Soriano. After the yr then reevaluate the situation.
  18. Yeah, I really find it hard to believe that Carpenter and Duncan found his flaws and the Boston PC couldn't. I think his first start was a product of facing the Padres nothing more, nothing less.
  19. Personally, I would like to see Soriano given the "Andres Blanco" treatment, and go on the DL because of an "injury."
  20. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/1731162,CST-SPT-bearnt24.article Sounds like Dusty might be through with the Bears. Fourth straight yr ended because of injuries.
  21. If the Cubs don't do anything else this offseason but getting rid of Miles, I'll consider the offseason a success. Anythng else will be gravy.
  22. Normally I would agree with this, but the Padres did just take 2 of 3 from the Cubs. Which is why you have to give Smoltz another start before considering him another miracle of the pixie dust.
  23. No, Erik, it was a regular hit. Did Soto approve?
