  1. Since he can't get the ball out of the infield anyways but Miles should be on a strick "bunts only" instructions for the night. Since Miles is an automatic out, might as well make it a productive automatic out.
  2. Perspective on how bad Miles have been: Nefti Perez: .681 and .610 OPS in 2005-06 with the Cubs. Delino Deshields: .600 OPS in his last major league season. Stynes: .688 OPS in 2002 Lenny Harris: OPS was .484 in 1/2 season with the Cubs and .506 over the course of the season. Boom Boom: Even Freddie was OPS of .764 during his one yr in Chicago. Not only has Miles been bad, he's been as epic bad as any player in recent memory. So why isn't he released, because Hendry thinks there is still a place on the team for a no glove/no stick/no speed MI who is filled with grit.
  3. So it looks like the Cubs are going to be playing with a 24 man roster again....Cool. Fontenot we REALLY need you to get hot. Baker we really need you to start hitting.
  4. I found this gem on the New York Mets message board: Heilman for a Philly cheesestick....just to add the jab....
  5. 1997......2003..........2009? Guess who is due to win it again..............
  6. That would certainly make up for losing that last game to the Marlins. That game didn't happen. What game..............? ;)
  7. We can only hope..... Maybe he heard banjos playing in the distance............
  8. I'm not ready to write them off, but they are getting very close to dropping out of the race.
  9. Gorzy didn't want to be outdone by Wells, that's all.
  10. I still have the utmost respect for Clark and he definately can play, but moving Olsen to top of the depth is absolutely the right choice. That's not a slap at Dez and that doesn't mean he won't play, cause the Bears still value his ability to block from the TE spot.
  11. I would be absolutely thrilled with Chad Qualls. He would be a nice Plan B for closer when Gregg needs a night or two off, and he would allowed Marmol and Guzman to remain in their respective spots. The only problem is I don't see Qualls making it through waivers.
  12. I mentioned this fact a couple of days ago. My ideal situation would be Holliday is superman for his stay in St. Louis, but the Cards miss the playoffs, and Holliday goes to a team like the Yankees or the Red Sox (where they would get two low picks, at most for Holliday, and neither player would be better then Brett Wallace). But who knows what will happen.
  13. For pitchers I see Wells, Happ, Kawakami, and Hanson (if he qualifies or should he qualify)could get votes. As for hitters I see Rasmus, Fowler, perhaps McCutchen---if he can qualify---as getting votes. But if I had to guess as to who are the favorites for the ROY award, I would put Happ and Wells---in that order---over any of the hitters as of tonight. Now I might be missing some rookies, but Happ and Wells, IMO are clearly the top two rookies in the NL.
  14. It's good to know that I wasn't the only one "pulling out the hair" when watching the 9th inning.
  15. Maybe, but Jeff Baker is no better option at 2b, and Lou doesn't trust Fox behind the plate, so you play the hand you are dealt with. Can't wait to see Soto back.
  16. I know it's too late to impliment it this season, but wouldn't it be a good career move if KG would add either a Cutter/2 seam FB to his arsenal? It seems that Gregg is basically a FB/Slider guy, with his FB being straight as a line. I'm thinking if he could cutter/2 seam FB he would be more effective. Heck even a decent change would be beneficially for him.
  17. To Ascanio, Grabow, Heilman, some random MR, etc, etc. To me the ONLY value Ascanio had over Grabow is $$$ and that's it. I don't see him as a "long-term" closer, but more of a closer by need (especially when Pittsburgh trades Capps within the next two yrs) and he's steps in as a "temp closer." So saying Ascanio is better then Grabow, is kinda like saying you like black olives over green olives. They both serve a purpose.
  18. After talking some time to think about it, are we really mad at Kevin Gregg or is this just frustration over the lack of offense the Cubs showed on Sunday? Personally I think most here are more mad at the offense then Gregg.
  19. You're not the only one. I've seen terms use like bowl and bat and I'm totally thinking of something else other then cricket. It's fascinating that people are talking in-depth about Cricket, but like you OMC, it's like taking a foreign class.
  20. IDK, that state did give us Tony Shaloub, so they got that going for them.
  21. "No ma, Kevin Gregg's my dog, I'll do it."
  22. Here's to the bats waking up in Cincinnati.
