  1. I would love to see the Cardinals have an epic choke job and the Cubs come back and win the division, but unless Tanya Harding stops doing the "Smoking Guns" show and is willing to bring her billy club and take out Pujols and Holliday, I don't see how the Cubs can wi the division. All year we've been waiting for the switch to come on, and it hasn't, and to think the Cubs have a 2007 Rockies run in them is really laughable.
  2. I don't have a problem with going with Guzman, but the Cubs would be wise---if they do decide to make Guzman the closer---to treat him with kid gloves as closer.
  3. I absolutely loathe the idea of "closer by committe". But considering that Gregg is trying to single handedly demoralize the Cubs to a point of giving up, closer by committee might actually be an upgrade over having Gregg.
  4. Agreed. Bringing up Cashner would be a desparate move to try and clinge onto a playoff spot. Cardinals are likely a one and done team ( ) should they make the playoffs, and we know the Cubs would be one and down. No need to waste an option year on basically a lost yr.
  5. I know what you're saying, and I don't mind the hits either....as long as they're singles. You can't give up homers in the closer's role, and this guy is addicted to gopher balls. I'd like to know what Gregg's SLG against is this year. It's gotta be over .500. How many homers is that for Gregg? 12? The two things you cannot do as a closer is walk people and give up home runs, and Gregg has been doing both all year. I think before tonight, ESPN had opponents having a .421 SLG% against Gregg. Which is odd because teams are hitting .224 off Gregg with a .299 OBP going into tonight.
  6. The Cards can embarrassed the Dodgers 3-4-5 hitters on 4 pitches, and Gregg can't shut down the Padres in the ninth? Just.......................great.
  7. Z, Harden, and Marshall all have higher OPS then Miles. Nuff said.
  8. Pretty exciting finish to the MNF game. Cantwell was hit by a Giant lineman picked off by another GMan lineman (can't recalled the name), who return the pic for the six for the final play of the game.
  9. All I was saying not all ints are created equally. If Cutler throws more TDs then INTs (say for instance 29 Tds and 13 INTs) then I really don't care about the INTs. Now if his if he throws the same amount or more INTs as TDs (say 20 TDs and 25 INTs) then it becomes a problem. Even with new WRs, I expect Cutler to have similar numbers in 2009 as he did in 2008. That's what my point is, how overrated INTs can be. It's now how many a QB throws, it's when he throws them that will be my concern.
  10. I'm going to assume that the Cubs were thrown in there by shear laziness. Cubs will almost assuredly take a look, but they wont be major players. Agreed. The kid's age is anywhere from 21 and 26. That's a big problem for me. If he's closer to 26 then he loses alot of his potential. And considering he's going to look for anywhere from what Dice K and Contreras got, I say the Cubs should stay out. His performance in the WBC didn't impress me, and I have a feeling he is going to be an epic bust.
  11. I would love to see that happen if for nothing else to see the creepy Cardinal fan go off the deep end and cry about losing TLR. That would be epic. He'd kill himself on YouTube One could only dream.

  13. That's because Cutler has all the confidence in the world to make any throw at any time. Sometimes that is a strength, sometimes it's a weakness. I don't mind the 10-15 INTs, as long as he is throwing 25-30 TDs.
  14. I have a feeling you'll be saying that all year long. After one game, a preseason game? Once Cutler gets comfortable I doubt we'll see too many Grossmanesque throws like the one tonight. cutler throws a lot of picks If he keeps his TD:INTs ratio to about 2:1 then I am fine. four of the fifteen QBs in front of Cutler thre double digit INTs, with Brees throwing one less INT despite throwing the ball 19 more times then Cutler. I don't expect Cutler to throw 18 INTs this yr, because quite frankly Cutler isn't going to be asked to throw the ball 616 times like he did last yr. The most passes a Chicago QB threw in one season was 480 in 2006 and that was Rex Grossman and he finished that season with 23 TDs to 20 INTs. Basically, I expect Cutler and Rodgers to have similar numbers in 2009. So I'm not sweating about picks in preseason.

  16. The ONLY way I see it not being Alan Trammell is if a new GM comes into play and he would want his own manager. Other then that, I see Lou retiring and the Cubs promoting Trammell to manager. Now the question I have is this: if Piniella does retire (let's face it, Lou will not be fired Hendry will allow him to retire), will Rothschild stay with the Cubs or would he pursue another job? If Rothschild does leave for another opportunity then a new pc will be needed.
  17. I'm hoping that will be no need.
  18. I wonder who the rumored trade target will be this offseason. I look forward to the inevitable 200+ page "Cubs interested in (superstar player)" thread. Considering our struggles at 2B this year it wouldn't surprise me to see Brian Roberts part two this offseason. Two words: Orlando Hudson.
  19. To me it seems they are grooming Alan Trammell to be the next manager, and not Ryne Sandberg.
  20. Don't be, they were only facing their AA affilate.
  21. Don't look now, QRich is on the move for the 4th time this offseason. This time he's heading to Miami.
  22. That's not the problem. The Cubs problem is that they crap their pants when they face even a half decent team.
  23. Didn't Yost get fired REALLY late in the season last yr and replac with Sveum?
  24. Cup check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
