  1. At this point, I'd prefer Les Miles, Rupert Giles, Aaron Miles, or AJ Styles to Marcus Giles.
  2. Vandy just dropped the series to Alabama. The final game of the series went to the Tide 10-3. Very disappoint series for Vandy, as they lost a series to an incredibly young, and not-so-talented Crimson Tide team.
  3. After the load they gave Florida for Biggy/Dontrelle, I seriously doubt they have enought to land Street. And that includes if Porcello was available. Detroit has to lower their sites. that INCLUDES if porcello was available? i don't think so. if the tigers offered porcello for street, the a's would make that deal in a heartbeat. Based on talent, yes they would. But they could have taken the kid in the draft, but passed on it, because of "contract demands." And just because he signed with Detroit, doesn't mean Oakland would want to get the contract for somebody who hasn't produce anything. So no, they wouldn't do a Street for Porcello deal, because quite frankly, I think the A's could do better.
  4. Man I remember the pre-ARam days, in which the Cubs were looking for anything remotely looking like a 3rd baseman. And I remember the Cubs being interested in Rolen, but so was the Reds and the Cards. And I also remember how mad I got when the Cards got Rolen for so little. Polanco, a crappy lefty with a lucky no-hitter, and a serviceable reliever. The point of the story is....I am so glad the Cubs got ARam instead of Rolen.

  6. Can we atleast give the KID a yr before we throw the B word out there? i didn't even give him 5 minutes. You prolly wouldn't even give KGJ, ARod or Pujols the benefit of the doubt. I for one, will not group current youngs with the past failures, until they proven they are failures.
  7. Sorry to hijack the thread, but I am going to mention something along the lines of what is being discussed in this, and many threads......but here goes....why haven't the Cubs talked to the Dodgers about the right handed CF? I mean, the Dodgers have AJ/Pierre/Kemp/Either/Young/Repko in the OF, and I almost positive they wouldn't mind moving one of those OFer. I mean, AJ ain't going anywhere. They can't give Pierre away. They shouldn't trade Kemp, but I believe Either (I know he's a basically an older Felix Pie) could be had (and he would make Pie expandable), and would make landing a RH CF less of a priority. Repko and Young, are decent enough 4th/5th OFers that wouldn't threaten Pie's job, plus I doubt it cost the Cubs a farm to acquire any of the three. So again I am thinking out loud, how come the Cubs haven't had discussion with the Dodgers?
  8. After looking at Felipe Lopez's career numbers (and let's face when you have similar numbers to SUCH legendary performers like Jeff Blauser, Mark Ellis, and Tony Graffanino) I would pass on Lopez, unless it was for dirt cheap. I'm about a straight up trade of a Walrond type journeyman minor leaguer for Lopez dirt cheap move. Other wise I am pretty sure Cedeno could outproduce Lopez in 2008.
  9. Yeah, this has been mentiond before, that the Orioles might be killing time since they want Cedeno and think that they might be able to just snatch him up and thens till milk the Cubs for an extra player for Roberts. I don't see Cedeno being released if Cintron is injured, unless the Cubs do sign Lopez. Agreed. I could see Hendry being abit ticked off about how long this has dragged out, that if he comes to the conclusion that is what the O's are trying to do (wait for Cedeno to be released, and then ask for a new 4th player, to essentially make it a 5 player trade), I could see Hendry being petty enough to keep Cedeno on the roster for two reasons: 1: The Cubs need a legit SS on the roster, and 2: The keep the O's from picking him up. So again, I don't see that scenerio playing out. If the O's want Cedeno, there more likely to have to trade for him.
  10. He was put on waivers, and I believe the reason why the White Sox still have him was that another team claim him, and the Sox pull him back, hoping to make a deal.
  11. Can we atleast give the KID a yr before we throw the B word out there?
  12. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/03/22/as-expected-it-s-sheets-in-the-opener.aspx Z-Sheets Lilly-Suppan Lieber-??? I thought Dempster was the #3 with Lieber or Marquis the #5 That maybe so, but I would feel more comfortable with Lieber as the #3 over Ryan Dempster.
  13. Let's face it, the Cubs are the only ones being the buttclowns in this. I feel sorry for both DeRosa and Roberts for being put in a VERY difficult position, because neither side knows how to negotiate a trade. I remember the Sosa trade to Baltimore took a couple of months (and cost the Cubs the chance at signing Carlos Beltran and was force to bargain signed Burnitz), so maybe Hendry still has a little hesitation about dealing with Angelos. While the Sosa trade sitation was taxing, at least it was resolved during the offseason. I could see DeRosa and the Cubs getting off to a slow start because of this distration. For the love of the Cub, please I wish somebody (calling Bruce Miles, paging Dr. Miles) would tell Hendry to "Cowboy up" and tell the O's that an offer of Gallagher/Patterson and a prospect would be the final offer, and set a dang deadline. MacPhail knows what players he wants to Roberts, but he's trying to get more then what Roberts is worth. Call their bluff, Jim, please.
  14. So just because a pitcher didn't hurt the Cubs, that should preclude the Cubs from upgraded the bullpen? Am I reading that right? IDK about you, but if the Cubs could land a Fuentes or a Marte to replace Eyre as the lefty specialist, and force Scotty into the garbage innings in blowouts, I would be happy. With that said, I wouldn't overpay for either guy. No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that's it's completely unnecessary. The Cubs don't need a late inning lefty when they have RHPs who dominate. Eyre was already used in garbage time last year. So was Wuertz for the most part. This year you have both of them, Hart, and whoever else makes the roster that are gonna get a lot of garbage innings. I'm saying that a trade for another reliever would slightly strengthen the late innings and would seriously upgrade the garbage innings, which makes the trade not worthwhile. Ok, thanks for clearing that up. But depending on the cost, it wouldn't hurt the Cubs to add a legit 2nd lefty to the pen. I wouldn't make it a priority, but if say the Pirate offer Marte for a couple of a Low A ball players, I wouldn't say no.
  15. My question is....if Michael Young can play SS, then why can't DeRosa play SS? I mean, he is an athlete, and the only reasons why he didn't play much SS, was because he was blocked by Rafael Furcal in ATL, and Michael Young in Texas. I pretty sure, DeRosa glove at SS would be on par with Theriot, with the bat being significantly better. I don't know why Piniella would toss the DeRos to SS idea away so nochalantly.
  16. What do the Cubs need? Well, the Tigers have two guys that could fill the Cubs most glaring hole. Do they have a legit RH center to platoon with Pie? No, Marcus Thames doesn't count. Seeing as he is a corner OFer. Brandon Inge isn't much of a player. And I am not confident he could handle CF even on temp status. The only guy on their roster they may be interested in parting with to acquire bullpen help is Ryan Raburn. And he reminds me of a younger Mark DeRosa, with his ability to play just about every position. He has played 2B and 3B, and all three OF spots. He shown good pop last yr, so he might be worth a flier, if the Tigers would offer him. As for SS, there is no way they'd offer Renteria. He's off the table, unless they could land another SS, fairly quickly. After it's been revealed that Giaterratino's (sp?) has been released, the Cubs and Detroit are not really a good match in a trade. Rayburn by himself isn't worth Weurtz, and the Tigers don't really have a decent enough SS outside of Renteria.
  17. IDC what Harrelson nickname is....there is only ONE TRUE Hawk in Chicago, and he played for the Cubs. Harrelson is more of a mockingbird, then a hawk.
  18. The Tigers just traded for Renteria this offseason, giving up two intriguing prospects (Jurgens, and Hernandez), so IMO the Tigers are not even considering trading Renteria. Not to mention they don't have anybody to replace Renteria at SS if they trade him (and remember they traded for Renteria so that they COULD move Guillen off of SS and onto 1B). So I seriously doubt the Tigers would be interested in trading Renteria for Marmo, unless they knew they had another deal for a starting SS in place. I said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't see the Tigers and the Cubs as a match, because Detroit doesn't have what the Cubs need.
  19. You know, don't take the word of Cubs fans, as we are naturally pessimistic. If you need more testimonial about Johnny B. Dusty Baker, go ask Giants fans what they think of the man. I mean, Bruce does need some time in the minors, but to believe he will get a shot once he starts hitting well in AAA, is comical. Dusty Baker loves his veterans, hence the reason why Paul Bako, Corey Patterson, and Jerry Hairston, Jr were brought in. Look, I'm hoping Bruce is a stud for you guys, BUT, Baker never had a young player developed for him. Dusty ALWAYS needed established vets to make him look good. By the end of the yr, Dusty is going to make Reds fans impatient, and frustrated.
  20. Yet, I see either Cincy or St. Lou picking him up.
  21. Goodness no. Hill isn't going to get his curveball going down here. He's got little chance to find a rhythm, considering he's just starting out for the year and he relies on a sweeping curve that won't bite in the desert air. Hill will at least get a chance to find himself @ Wrigley before the Cubs send him down, IMO. If my memory serves me correctly, but Hill was said to be working on a new delivery. That might be the reason why he is struggling a little bit.
  22. What more does Bruce have to accomplish in the minor leagues (hell, all of last year, for that matter, having torn his way through each level from A+ on up to AAA at ages 19-20) to earn a big league job? He has little to nothing to prove at the minor league level. On top of that, it's absolutely stupid to hold competitions for starting jobs in spring training for a million reasons. Teams do it. Doesn't mean it's not stupid. He's had 253 AB's above high a ball in his career. Last year he had 135 Ks compared to to 47 walks, so yes he needs to prove he can have a better eye at the dish. He's 20 years old. You can't honestly believe some more time in AAA wouldn't do him some good. It's really not a big deal at all. I think most of the Cubs fans will agree that Bruce could stand to use about another month or so in AAA. What we find hilarious is that Bruce is likely to always be on the outside looking in, in Cincinnati, simply because if you haven't played for Dusty before, or don't come out hitting like Albert Pujols you instantly go into Dusty's doghouse (unless of course, you save HIS son from being run over). So whenever Jay Bruce get's his shot, he better take advantage of it, cause if he doesn't, he won't get a fair chance under DUSTY.
