  1. It kind of is. How? It is the #1 essential thing required to be a pitcher. You have to throw strikes. Hill has been pitching his whole life. He knows what he needs to do, and it isn't Lou's fault that he can't do it right now. It is possible, maybe in the slightest, that it just might be Rich Hill's fault. I know that is hard to take for the many Hill apologists who never think he is responsible for his own ineffectiveness, but it just might be possible. You have to throw strikes, he's not doing it. A move to the pen would be a disaster. Send him down for a couple starts and get him back up.
  2. Rich Hill has to figure this out. It isn't Lou's fault that Hill can't find the plate. Hill really struggles when he doesn't have command. His fastball isn't good enough to blow people away. When his curveball isn't working all he has is his fastball, which teams can wait for and sit on. Not having a reliable third pitch also hinders him. Hill is very good when he has control of both his FB and CB. So far this year that hasn''t happened a whole lot. At some point it is up to Hill to figure this out. Many are very quick to point the finger at Hendry, Rothschild, and Lou, but they can't pitch for him. Hopefully he can get this turned around, but it was obvious to anyone that last night was not his night. He needed to come out. The Cardinals had one run in and the bases loaded without even putting the ball in play offensively.
  3. there's just no proof that he's been bad. he's walked a lot of guys, but he's been rather good. No I'm sure what he just did was bad no, i'm sure his .671 OPS against says he's been good. 18 walks in 19 innings is terrible, regardless of his OPS against. actually, ops against takes into account how many people make outs against him. You seriously believe that pitcher who is walking a batter an inning is doing a good job? you seriously base your opinion of a pitcher on how many people he walks? incredibly stupid. Yeah, I'm stupid. Where did I say that is where I base my opinion entirely? Hill has been bad because he has had control problems. He does not have the velocity to work around that. When his curveball is off teams can sit on his fastball, which as I said, isn't fast enough to blow guys away. He also lacks a third pitch to use when he is in situations like this. That is what gets him in trouble. Better?
  4. And his run total is good, and his HR total is adequate, and his HRs allowed are pretty good. What's your point? It's a small sample. his point is that hill has been bad since spring training, which is based on visceral reaction and anecdotal evidence. sure, he's walked a lot, but to say that means he's been bad is foolish. walk rates are now anecdotal and visceral?
  5. Out of context your post make sense. In context it's very stupid. What doens't make sense? When Hill struggles the collective wisdom around here blames Lou for the most part. Hill has not been very good since Spring Training. I don't know why that is, but he can't throw strikes. What is stupid would be leaving him out there. He'll turn things around, but its obvious he's not very good right now. Stop it with the collective wisdom crap. As you can plainly see if you read there are a variety of opinions here. It doesn't make sense because they just skipped him in the rotation, it's the first inning, and the bottom of the order is coming up. Leave him in. Lou is pissed and acts impulsively. I'm sure it will do wonders for Hill. There's not been a pitcher jerked around more than Hill. There are a variety of opinions, but mine seems to be the minority. Thats fine though. I hope like hell he turns it around, but he's gotta get things going in the right direction.

  7. Gee I wonder why he's a headcase? (not that actually believe it to be true) I don't know if he's a headcase but if he is it's because Dusty and Lou have made him one. Thanks for proving my point. Is it ever Hill's fault?

  10. This is not Lou's doing. You can't let Hill walk the park like he's done all year. He's been bad since ST. Now call me a Hill basher...
  11. I think we need to redefine what is acceptable for an opposing team fan on this forum. This is what is listed now: I'm not saying anything that reds44 is doing is anything more than good-natured ribbing. But usually his posts are more aggressive than a majority of fans from other teams that post here. Especially when the topic is EXTREMELY sensitive (Dusty Baker). Do things really have to be that serious? Who cares? I don't see the big deal. This is a sports message board, thats all.
  12. Take that stupid crap somewhere else! Go. Reds. Let me go to Redszone.com and post Go Cubs and see how people react. Put the pitchforks down. Who gives a crap?
  13. Will this talk of moving Derosa to SS die down now?
  14. This thing is a circus. Andy Katz reporting that it is going to be Tom Crean.
  15. Lon Kruger?????????? Apparently that is the scoop by David Kaplan.
  16. this is a poor assessment. Why? Do you not agree that most people's expectations of Hill last year were extremely out of whack? He had a tremendous finish to the 2006 season and I think too many expected him to pick right up from that point. In April he was very good. In May-June he was average. In July-August he was slightly above average. In September he was slightly below average. In his defense it was his first year as a full time starter at the ML level, he should improve. I just believe that his ceiling is a solid #3 guy. He needs to develop another pitch to go along with his curveball. When he doesn't have his curveball he has nothing else to rely on. His fastball isn't strong enough to get by when he doesn't have his curveball. He was toying with a changeup last year, I hope that is something that has improved this year. A changeup can be tremendously effective even if it is just average. I haven't been on the Hill train either, but his ceiling is going to have a hard time being a solid #3 guy when he was a solid #2 last year. Ok, bad comparison.
  17. Unless the Cubs can play their home games in Great American Ballpark Lopez isn't worth it.

  19. Has Jose Cruz jr been officially inducted into the NSBB perennial trade target list behind Dunn yet? I'm with Raw, Marquis is worth more than that.
  20. I've been accused of being a "Hill basher" in the past, unfairly. Although I still believe he is average-to slightly above average at best. He is severely overvalued on this board, but thats just my opinion. Many around here had some unrealistic expectations for him last year. he had a fine year, but he is still inconsistent and not getting any younger.
  21. It can't be a "win" just based on spring training numbers. If he continues that into the regular season then it could very well be. Volquez has done pretty well too. I caught a little bit of him against the Yankees and he carved up A-Rod in 3 pitches. Hamilton will always be battling injuries. His body has been put through hell. I am interested in what he can do though.
  22. He will be batting 9th for Milwaukee this year... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080308&content_id=2413512&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil&partnered=rss_mil
