I'm not what I would consider a huge Theriot guy by any means, but I don't exactly have an abundance of confidence that Cedeno would do much better. Defensively, Cedeno has the edge in range and arm at SS, but is also more inconsistent. His numbers in winter ball, even considering the less than major league quality playing surfaces, are terrible. Cedeno and Theriot have had nearly the same amount of ML AB's, 684 for Theriot, and 688 for Cedeno. Theriot's career line is .276/.341/.379. Cedeno is .247/.277/.349. Theriot has over 2x as many walks, Cedeno has over 2x strikeouts. Ronny had a good year in AAA, maybe he can figure it out. He is younger, so that is in his favor. But Theriot has superior numbers in almost the identical number of AB's. It is like choosing between a taking a shot in the head or the groin, both are going to hurt.
