  1. Went from starting Game 1 of the World Series to unable to make the freaking Phillies roster in 4 months. I mean, he's had a really weird year going back to ST last year. Was gonna have a big role going into the season. Then gets surprise-traded to the A's because we surprise-signed Fowler. Then he has a god-awful first half, gets traded back to the Cubs, somehow starts Game 1 of the WS and now this.
  2. [tweet]https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/846756133977014272[/tweet] Womp womp. I suspect he'll be back at some point.
  3. Going off of that, a Phillies beat writer breaks down their 25 man roster and concludes someone probably has to go: http://www.phillyvoice.com/phillies-opening-day-roster-projection-final-version/ Alec Asher still has 2 options remaining. Thoughts on him and potentially buying low on Appel?
  4. Both got fewer than 200 at bats last year and part of that had to do with Schwarber going down and Fowler missing some time. It really does say a lot about our depth that both guys would barely see the field and could be starters on other teams. That La Stella can only play 2B and 3B hurts, but Szczur is also more replaceable. That said, what happens if Rizzo needs Szczur's bats?
  5. Rizzo did an interview with Uproxx http://uproxx.com/sports/anthony-rizzo-chicago-cubs-interview-mlb-the-show/5/
  6. Obviously they want to get Anderson some starts in while he's healthy and then flip him to a contender during the season. /2013 post
  7. Soooo...... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/03/mariners-option-dan-vogelbach-to-triple-a.html
  8. I'm still a big fan of the quality depth the Phillies have in the upper minors. Most aren't on the same level as those guys but it's a situation to keep an eye on.
  9. That's a shame. Still had hopes to see him get a callup this year/in September.
  10. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/03/straight-from-the-heart-the-signing-of-ted-lilly.html MLBTR has a piece on the background of the Ted Lilly signing 11 years ago.
  11. I really like Sxczur (and it also feels like he's been in the organization forever) but without options and guys like Rademacher and Andreoli in Iowa, it makes sense that he'd be a goner.
  12. I can take Titans (if dew hasn't called dibs) and/or Vikings if we make it to 2+ rounds,
  13. To be fair, he was aiming for the second baseman.
  14. Is this a real rant? I can't tell if this is a real rant. Also, as an aside, who runs the twitter account because :good:
  15. I wouldn't say any were memorable because of anything that happened during them, but of all the games I've been to, the ones I remember most: - My first ever Cubs game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200107040.shtml It was not a good game, they lost a low-scoring affair to Glendon Rusch. It was also most notable for being my only game at Shea, which sucked and there were constantly planes flying overhead. Also there was an old lady Mets fan with a real thick Long Island accent who freaked the eff out when Desi Relaford came up to bat and kept calling him "My Desi." - My second game, and only one at the Vet, which also sucked: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI200207170.shtml It was an outing for my family because it was the day before my birthday. It was notable for Todd Hundley hitting a home run right after I got done telling my dad how much he sucked and I hated him. We showed up early for batting practice and I caught a foul ball off Sosa's bat (and I still have it somewhere). Also Carlos Zambrano nearly threw me a ball when I screamed at him that it was my birthday but then a bunch of drunk Phillies fans started screaming it was their birthday too and he walked away. - My first (and, so far, only) game at Wrigley: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN201308010.shtml Went with my now-wife on a trip to Chicago. Drank Old Style, sat in the bleachers, heckled the hell out of Chris Capuano as he stretched in the outfield because why not. Also dude a few rows in front of us brought a sign that said Junior Lake for ROY and kept booing Puig and then later Puig hit a home run right at him (though Lake did hit 2 out that day, to be fair). - First time I saw the Cubs win in person: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI201308070.shtml Donnie frickin Murphy of all people hit 2 HR that day, including the game-winner in the 9th and my friends and I were on the CSN broadcast (they were glum and my arms are in the air in celebration). Also we saw the very brief Thomas Neal experiment end when he ran into a wall and left the game, never to be seen again. - Got a glance at the eventual WS winners: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI201606060.shtml Went with my friend's British fiance, who is a Cubs fan because they were always "rubbish". Lester was lights out and I nearly fainted from shock when Heyward hit a home run. Then Grimm came in and nearly blew it.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. Who would you plop them ahead of on Callis' list, though? With Mills/Zastryzny/Williams, we're talking largely end of the rotation possibilities. Johnson's probably more middle relief at this stage, although if he found something late in the year, the raw fastball/breaking ball combination back in the day had enough potential to possibly think about a late inning arm. Considering his career path so far, though, hard to get excited. Much as I am not as down on Hudson as everyone seems to be (I guess it's relative) ... he's raw and really far away and Hannemann is 26 ... at some point, hope for the tools drops low. I mean, from his 14-21 ... I'd take Ademan/Paredes/Sepulveda over them on youth, up the middle, and upside (btw ... was that the first mention of Sepulveda as a possible catcher ... I don't recall hearing much about that before ... that'd be fascinating ... somewhat reminiscent of Robinson Chirinos making the move back in the day). I guess I can understand some questioning of Paulino being that high (that writeup is extremely positive, it seems ... and uh ... he claimed a 40 man spot? guess there wasn't a proofreader), although his ceiling is more intriguing than those guys in the 20's. Underwood is a lightning rod point, I guess ... but being in the top 20 is probably okay for most. Rosario and Young are two guys that seem like they could help soon and in a more significant role than some of those upper level guys in the 20's. That leaves Pena at 21, which I'd be fine dropping him and sliding others up. All in all, not sure who you'd jump a lot of those guys on the list over. I could see sliding Alec Mills up several slots. I'd honestly slot them above everyone 14 or lower save for Paredes and maybe Ademan. I'm not super high on Underwood anymore. None of the others there impress me that much. I guess we're not slotting them a lot higher and I guess it becomes a crapshoot with a lot of these guys once we get past the top 10-12 but I like their chances to be somewhat decent major leaguers.
  18. Wow. I figured he was good as gone after the season. He'd definitely have made more on the open market. Must love it here and the FO must feel he's 100 percent. I dig it.
  19. Hudson? Who are you confusing him with? Yeah I overlooked him in that list. The rest, relevant.
  20. Kinda surprised how low these guys are: 22. Alec Mills 23. Rob Zastryzny 24. Pierce Johnson 25. Bryan Hudson 26. Jacob Hannemann 27. Ryan Williams Considering their makeup and each having a decent shot to make the majors soon.
  21. Reporting that for inappropriate content.
  22. Bote, Pieters, Leatherstich and Caleb Smith? Really?
  23. Aaaaand Wood joins Hammel in KC. 2 year deal, will have a shot at the rotation.
