I enjoy the idea of the Mets emptying the farm system for that contract. I also believe the Reds never deserved a player like Votto, when the manager and GM have said things like he should walk less.
I may he crazy, but I'd want to keep Almora, but I guess for the right deal you bite the bullet. Baez I keep even if he doesnt have a starting spot penciled in. If Dexter comes back, we have to assume it's a 4 year deal, 3 at the very least. I don't see a need to keep Almora in that case. I think Soler and Almora become trade bait if Dex comes back. I like the idea of keeping Almora to split time between all three outfield positions. Still get him 200+ at bats and keep the elite defense, especially with Schwarber's limitations. Szczur doesn't have any options left and could probably fetch a prospect from a team in need of outfield depth. Soler seems to be the most likely one traded. So you have Heyward, Schwarber, Fowler, with Almora and a number of depth AAA guys, in addition to Baez and Zobrist being able to play out there.
I take as the Phillies didn't want him to accept and wanted to get the pick, but they can afford him and have a spot in their rotation for him. I'm sure they aren't thrilled, given they kept him at the deadline to get the draft pick this offseason, but it sets them up to trade him at the deadline if he's still good/healthy.
The Rockies wouldn't make that trade. And that would not be good trade for us with the Mariners. I wouldn't mind Cecil on a reasonable 2 year deal. Or Blanco on that deal. We definitely are trading Szczur. I feel like if we bring back Fowler, we trade Soler as well and utilize Almora as the backup at all three outfield spots.
Phillies get Howie Kendrick for Darin Ruf (a prospect Sandberg ruined) and Darnell Sweeney (a guy the Dodgers traded for Utley). He's slated to continue playing the outfield though the Phillies are rumored to be entertaining offers for Cesar Hernandez.
http://memedad.com/memes/651101.jpg Assuming health, the Rays will have Archer, Smyly, Cobb, Snell, Andriese, Odorizzi, and Erasmo Ramirez, with Schultz, Guerrieri, and Honeywell knocking on the door. Also Smyly did make 30 starts this year.
I honestly keep wondering if we're destined to deal with the Rays. Something has to give on their glut of starters. Would something like Soler, Jeimer and one of Sands/Stinnett/Kellogg be not enough for Colome and one of Odorizzi/Smyly/Andriese?
Kinda curious, what's been the wait time on online orders? Been eyeing up stuff on the usual places (Lids, MLB dot com, Fansedge, etc) but I'm curious if I ordered now if it would arrive next week or in a month. Also has anyone ordered one of the press plates from the Tribune?
http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17973532/chicago-cubs-catcher-miguel-montero-critical-manager-joe-maddon-role-team-postseason I'm sure winning the World Series takes the sting out of being benched because you're the third worst catcher on the team, but it doesn't seem to make sense to keep him anyway at his salary next year. Think they trade him for a lottery ticket prospect and sign or acquire another vet catcher? I do believe Geovany Soto is a free agent........
I forgot we ever had Aaron Crow, let alone thought of him as an option next year. Speaking of guys you forgot about, don't we also have Zac Rosscup coming back?
Thata fair. My thought was because the option is cheap and the market is thin we could get a decent return and I figured they'd want Montgomery I'm the rotation. Just for fun, what would a package with the Rays for Kiermeyer and Colombe or one of their non Archer starters look like?
Soler, Underwood and Steele or Sands for Cain and Davis. Who says no? Also is miggy coming back as backup catcher for that much money? And what about trading Hammel for a reliever after picking up his option and using Montgomery as the 5th starter and Zastryzny in a long relief role? Or signing Kurt Vonnegut as someone previously mentioned. I assume Cahill and Wood and Chapman aren't returning. Just spitballing here.
