  1. Are you going with a six man rotation or putting the SP in place of someone? My idea was a six man rotation. Having Cahill and Matusz is nice but who knows what you'd get from either stretching out.
  2. I keep thinking about what's next in terms of trades. We've been looking at starters and apparently have interest in a lefty power bat and I as wondering what it would take to get Kole Calhoun and one of Hector Santiago/Matt Shoemaker from the Angels? Those two pitchers are on the market and while not flashy would be helpful in stabilizing the rotation. Calhoun has pop and a good glove. Thoughts?
  3. Similar to the discussions we're having: -Did the Cubs overpay for a rental -I wouldn't want the Cardinals to acquire a guy with his background -Wish he wasn't coming back to the NL -Guess the Cubs are completely going for it
  4. It's a bit of a haul, but it seems like Torres is really the only one with any kind of chance to be a difference-maker at this point, and even that is far from a definite. It's an overpay, but I think an acceptable one. (Keeping in mind that I'm not a student of the prospects we have like most of this board is.) I know. I'm just still having this internal struggle over it. We're also selling low on Warren and McKinney. Don't care too much about Crawford. And I was kinda assuming Torres would be dealt at some point. I guess there have been worse overpays (see: Phillies' haul for Giles).
  5. I'm still just having a hard time with this one, between the haul for Chapman, the fact that no extension is in place and the fact that he's a POS. I'm really interested in this press conference/statements from the front office.
  6. We're just gonna flip Chapman for Mike Trout right?
  7. Rosenthal now saying it's likely 4 for 1 as well. This isn't reality right? Tell me I'm missing something.
  8. Sharma and Sherman saying it's 4 for 1 with no extension. I'd be so damn furious
  9. Well, then [tweet] [/tweet]
  10. Chapman has already made a lot of money, close to 50 million if my understanding of his Reds deal is right. He could very well be okay with something approaching market value if he knows he's very likely to get multiple title shots. Also as a reliever you never want to turn away from a lot of guaranteed money, even if it is only a few months until free agency. We don't know his thinking. This is a guy who fired off a gun in his house and allegedly beat his girlfriend. So......
  11. There's no way Theo gives up Torres for 2 months of renting Chapman. There has to be an extension. Well you'd hope so
  12. I am not going to be happy if we give up Torres and more for Chapman. Unless that more is like Dallas Beeler and we get Eovaldi in addition. Even then. Edit: Can get behind it a little more if it comes with an extension.
  13. I don't like Chapman as a person, and I don't want to overpay for a rental. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed if we get him based on what we'd surrender.
  14. Chris Sale, a cut above the rest http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/17135160/chris-sale-suspended-five-days-chicago-white-sox
  15. Do I get credit for half-calling this? I really dig this deal, though I think it's a fair trade for both teams. Really feels like Vogelbach and Blackburn were in the system forever and I kinda figured they'd both always be trade bait.
  16. Liking this deal so far. I looked at the Mariners AAA pitching staff and it's a who's who of ex cubs lol. Casey Coleman, Blake Parker, Donn Roach, etc.
  17. Would getting something like Mike Montgomery and Nate Karns make sense? A decent left and quality starter. Nothing that lights the world on fire but intriguing names that bolster the staff. Nothing to base this off of, just thinking aloud based on guys on their roster who fit our needs.
  18. Gets better for the Dodgers. Alex Wood out for the year.
  19. I'd love to have Miller but I don't know that I offer up more than something like Vogelbach and Candelario. That's a good haul for the Yanks, with young guys who'd probably be on the roster next year. As big a fit Miller is, I don't like the idea of parting with a king's ransom for a reliever. I honestly like the idea of Doolittle or Will Smith more.
  20. Pitched yesterday in AA, struck out 6 in 3 innings. I saw Brett also posted the club is stretching out Clayton Richard, because sure why not.
  21. In case you were wondering, Bryan LaHair is still an All-Star. http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/07/12/bryan-lahair-all-star-chicago-cubs
  22. Will Smith from the Brewers could be a good option. Solid numbers and peripherals. Likely won't require the same package for Andrew Miller.
  23. Here we are in July and his ERA is still in the 7's. I'm sure Miller will stabilize and return to respectability even if he doesn't pitch like he did last year (which wasn't even great, it 'pretty good'), but depending on how Swanson turns out this might be mentioned among the worst trades of all time when all is said and done. If you want to make it sound worse, consider the two trades between the two teams: Shelby Miller, Phil Gosselin, and some cash for getting rid of Bronson Arroyo's corpse for Swanson Aaron Blair Ender Inciarte Touki Toussaint
