  1. I have just assumed we're losing Arrieta. The acquisition of Leonys makes me think he'll be the Jay-type outfielder next year. I really want to bring Davis back on a reasonable deal. I think Avila gets starter money or promised more at bats by someone else. I'd be cool with keeping Rene Rivera though. Definitely have to add another pen piece and at least one starter. I've also wondered if there's even room for La Stella on the roster anymore. He barely played this year and can play on 2B (where Javy, Zobrist, and Happ can all play) and 3B. He's out of options right? Might make sense to see what we could get for him in the offseason, some kind of interesting pen arm to throw into the mix/stash at Iowa? (Since our interesting pen arms are all in the majors or were jettisoned on waivers. RIP Pierce Johnson and Jack Leathersitch)
  2. We lost Pierce Johnson to the Giants on waivers.
  3. The Jays extended Marco Estrada. Too bad. He's had a down year but I wouldn't have minded him as a backend of the rotation option. Also the Padres extended the MLB leader in hits allowed (and former Cubs great) Clayton Richard.
  4. Reporting as NSFW content.
  5. He couldn't make it through the game without allowing a hit. Should he be brought back next season?
  6. Joe would've had to of gotten into the meth for Taylor Davis to get a start in any game right now. I'm guessing it's either Avila or Caritini (at worst). So about that [tweet]https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/908409091445452801[/tweet]
  7. Yup, both deserving. This is Tseng's second one, right?
  8. He really seems like a Hendricks-type pitcher. Not overpowering stuff but great command. I like him as an option for the 5th start spot next year. This move does seem questionable now though. I'd also guess Davis is catching him today?
  9. Cubs announce they have DFA'd Pierce Johnson and added Jen-Ho Tseng to the 40 man roster.
  10. Remember how we won the World Series last year?
  11. As much as I have a soft spot for Pierce Johnson, leatherstitch should have kept his spot. Same for hannemann. Not sure how Martin is better. The said, really happy for Davis.
  12. Yeah no reason for Frankoff. If they need another starter they'll call up Butler or Mills.
  13. seems odd to make a move for next year at the playoff roster deadline. not that it couldn't be. but we have a month to figure out if he has a place on the playoff roster. Yeah true. Just seems like there were enough other options available in house. That said, Hoyer just said they got Martin because Maddon asked for a defensive outfielder/base stealer.
  14. This has to be a trade for next year right? He requires a 40 man spot if he is added this year and I don't know where he would play.
  15. What gets it done, hypothetically? Would we trade Caratini or Zagunis or go with players not on the 40 man who would be candidates to be added?

  18. Upton was going to opt out after the season so better than nothing but dang. Sounds like it's just Long and a PTBNL or cash.

  20. I think has been said before but Joey Gallo is having a weird season. He has 36 home runs and an .893 OPS, but with a .203 batting average and a .227 BABIP. He has 73 hits on the year and only 20 of those are singles. Over a full season, he would have 51 homers with 98 RBI. In the month of August, he has a 1.194 OPS with a .179 BABIP. Only five of his hits were not home runs. What this basically boils down to is he is the new Adam Dunn.
  21. Wei-Yin Chen and Mike Leake each got $80 million. Arrieta is easily getting $100. Probably 150 from a team with cash that's desperate for pitching (Rangers, Giants, Yankees, heck even the Astros).
  22. [tweet] [/tweet] And all we got was a bag of Ian Stewart.
  23. I definitely think Maples gets called up. Tseng should be added to the 40-man but they could shut him down due to innings limit. Part of my wants Taylor Davis and Andreoli to get called up for depth/make their MLB debuts but that isn't likely without injuries.
  24. will anyone be at any of the games this weekend?
