Levine mentioned Shark as a potential trade again yesterday. Probably more musings than actual smoke but I am curious what they would be asking for in trade. They were awful this year and have a lot of holes in the lineup (they basically have half an outfield) and the pitching staff.
The Giants have a desperate need for outfield help. How insane is something like Heyward, Happ, Zagunis, Grimm and $$$ for Melancon and Shark? Or what about seeing how much the Red Sox don't want to pay Porcello or Price anymore?
I don't know if this makes me a horsefeathers fan or not, but I went to a concert last night because I already had tickets and I also knew I'd be a nervous wreck watching the game. Having spent the night checking Twitter and stress-drinking PBRs, I'm not sure it was any better. This team, man. :flythew:
I have just assumed we're losing Arrieta. The acquisition of Leonys makes me think he'll be the Jay-type outfielder next year. I really want to bring Davis back on a reasonable deal. I think Avila gets starter money or promised more at bats by someone else. I'd be cool with keeping Rene Rivera though. Definitely have to add another pen piece and at least one starter. I've also wondered if there's even room for La Stella on the roster anymore. He barely played this year and can play on 2B (where Javy, Zobrist, and Happ can all play) and 3B. He's out of options right? Might make sense to see what we could get for him in the offseason, some kind of interesting pen arm to throw into the mix/stash at Iowa? (Since our interesting pen arms are all in the majors or were jettisoned on waivers. RIP Pierce Johnson and Jack Leathersitch)
The Jays extended Marco Estrada. Too bad. He's had a down year but I wouldn't have minded him as a backend of the rotation option. Also the Padres extended the MLB leader in hits allowed (and former Cubs great) Clayton Richard.
Joe would've had to of gotten into the meth for Taylor Davis to get a start in any game right now. I'm guessing it's either Avila or Caritini (at worst). So about that [tweet]https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/908409091445452801[/tweet]
He really seems like a Hendricks-type pitcher. Not overpowering stuff but great command. I like him as an option for the 5th start spot next year. This move does seem questionable now though. I'd also guess Davis is catching him today?
As much as I have a soft spot for Pierce Johnson, leatherstitch should have kept his spot. Same for hannemann. Not sure how Martin is better. The said, really happy for Davis.
seems odd to make a move for next year at the playoff roster deadline. not that it couldn't be. but we have a month to figure out if he has a place on the playoff roster. Yeah true. Just seems like there were enough other options available in house. That said, Hoyer just said they got Martin because Maddon asked for a defensive outfielder/base stealer.
