    Just finished the Verducci book. Really good stuff in there. Some cool stories about the start of the rebuild, Maddon's background, etc. The bit about the team meeting during the rain delay was great.

    Is Dillon Maples a stock up guy? His numbers look pretty solid and he's been healthy for the first time in literally forever. Think he gets a bump up to AA to see how he fares?

    I would really rather them give it to Monty, but at least Butler is a candidate for starts down the stretch and next season. The reports have generally been positive on him this season, no? I'd be annoyed if the start was given to some AAAA scrub.

    The Royals have DFA'd former top prospect Pete O'Brien and former first round pick (4th overall) Christian Colon.

    The Angels are in second place, despite: - After Trout (2.2), the highest bWAR on the team is .8 (career backup catcher Martin Maldonado) - Other than Trout, only two players have an OPS above .680 (Yunel Escobar and 21 at bats from Luis Valbuena) - Injuries to the bullpen have left Bud Norris (yup) as the team's closer with Yusmeiro Petit and Blake Parker (yup, that Blake Parker) as the top setup men.

    Former longtime Cubs minor leaguer Jim Adduci got called up by the Tigers after two years in the KBO and has 6 hits in 2 games.

    I just saw Travis Wood has a 18.56 ERA and 3.188 WHIP through 5.1 innings.... Yikes.

    These are always worth a laugh. So far, the Royals have hit 10 HR. Of those, 7 are by just 2 players (Perez and Moustakas) and 9 (!) of the 10 have been solo homers. The only one that wasn't was a two-run homer by Hosmer. Josh Donaldson is one of only 3 Blue Jays players with an OPS above .615. (the other two are Kendrys Morales and Darwin Barney, lol) JT Realmuto currently leads the league in OPS.

    It is amusing to look at Howard's career stats and see that the year he signed that big extension coincides with the year his career fell off a cliff. His numbers had been slipping but pre-contract: .275/.368/.560/.928 and post-contract: .226/.292/.427/.719. He was also worth a -4.5 bWAR over the life of that contract. It really is amazing Amaro lasted as long as he did as GM.

    I forgot Beeler was even still in the system. Pries was just depth. I had higher hopes for Skulina and Martinez though.
