  1. Care to relate the convo as it comes on? I would, but I have to go to class. Hopefully someone else can turn it on and relay it.
  2. ESPN News said they'll have Peter Gammons coming on soon to talk about the Cubs' offer.
  3. According to ESPN, the Yankees and mets were both interested. I'm hoping that the Yankee's were unhappy about losing out Matsuzaka and decided they weren't going to be beaten again. That's exactly what I was thinking too. Me too. I wouldn't have minded Igawa, but not for that big of a bid. He's only a #3 starter at best IMO. I'd much rather have Schmidt and Westbrook.
  4. Why? Ross is an above average starter, and Valentin is a servicable backup. Wayne Krivsky is having a heck of an offseason.
  5. Darn, beat me to it. I thought he said 21 mil, but I could be mistaken. I think this is slightly overpaying for a guy who missed a lot of last season with an injury. However, in today's market, I don't know what's overpaying and what's not anymore.
  6. O's are stocking up on arms in the pen. They should probably save some money for SP's as well, but they gotta start somewhere. Last I checked, their pitching staff wasn't turning any heads.
  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-soriano112006&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Some funny stuff.
  8. Tanyon Sturtze Brooks Keischnik (sp?)
  9.    That's all I can say. Dodgers, you can have him.
  10. per ESPN News
  11. When I left this thread at around 6:30 EST, we were discussing the Soriano signing. I come back from a concert at about 11:30 and people are discussing Soriano's EqA on weed. What did I miss?
  12. July 31, 1998: Traded by the Chicago Cubs with Todd Noel (minors) and Kevin Orie to the Florida Marlins for Felix Heredia and Steve Hoff (minors). I remember being angry about that trade at the time...and I was only 11.
  13. The Cubs don't know what EqA is. They think someone just misspelled ERA.
  14. Now being reported on Yahoo: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AiZS4t3tPEYuiWoVMARvUYMRvLYF?slug=cubssoriano&prov=st&type=lgns
  15.   Since ther's no jaw-dropping emoticon, I settled for this one. Geez, I wanted him, but not for 8 years. I hope there are options in there or we'll be kicking ouselves in a few years. How much more room would there be in the budget to sign some starters, assuming this signing occurs?
  16. Maybe if we tell them that Roberto Novoa pitched for a team that went to the World Series, they'll bite.
  17. ...and the overpaying for relievers continues.
  18. How could you forget Elio's?
