  1. I think the Yanks are just trying to run up the price on the Cubs until they can move in on Pettite. They're also probably staying in the Lilly sweepstakes if Pettite spurns them, so I would not rule that out.
  2. OH, don't you bring your negative vibes in here, mandinga!! I wonder what Z wouild get on a free agent market like this. Depends. Is he gonna be a SP or a DH? Both. If he goes to the AL, he'll pitch and still bat for himself.
  3. Do you value Mr. BB himself Carlos Marmol anywhere near Hill? Hill is ready to go NOW. Marmol has great stuff but is still a year or two away IMO. Strangely enough I put Mateo over Marmol RIGHT NOW. Can Marmol play shortstop? He has a higher career OPS than Izturis.
  4. If I'm Schmidt, I take that deal. I highly doubt anyone else would give him 18 mil per year, and it leaves open the option of a return to the west coast/ Seattle to close out his career.
  5. Not sure where to post this, but ESPN News just announed that they'll have the Jock on at 3:40 ET to discuss the Cubs' offseason thus far. Interesting they're having him on as he's involved in many trade talks.
  6. Easier said than done, especially with JH and his apparant infatuation with wanting to sign Lilly and Meche.
  7. That's good news. That is always a scary thing and it's good to hear that he's ok and that he'll be back. He has loads of potential.
  8. Maybe as a 4th starter and if he doesn't cost much and if the Phillies take on some of contract.
  9. Juan Pierre can throw farther than Bernie. I always liked him, but do not want to see him on the roster next year.
  10. NO!!!!! Please Jim, do not sign Meche for 4 years.
  11. First day, things are just starting to heat up. I didn't think we would have a flurry of signings and trades right away. I expect things to get in gear sometime tonight.
  12. He gave up a living, breathing human being for Andy Pratt. Andy Pratt. Andy... Pratt. Oh, great. Thanks for reminding me of Andy Pratt's existence.
  13. http://www.daytondailynews.com/p/content/gen/sharedoh/photos_galleries/sports/pro-reds/120206redsuniform.html Didn't see this posted anywhere, sorry if it already was.
  14. http://www.users.muohio.edu/rothkr/fdup.jpg You really need to think a little bit before you post, or at least research your topic. As the posters above have clearly explained, Radke has no shoulder. I don't think that was necessary. I agree. Don't attack the poster. It's no big deal that he wasn't aware of the full extent of Radke's injury.
  15. The only thing decent about signing Sturtze is the fact that only 350,000 is guaranteed. So the Braves are wasting very little money, but it is being wasted none the less. When has Sturtze ever been good? He is 36. His career ERA is 5.21 with a career best ERA of 4.42 which was posted 5 years ago. I'm not seeing the draw. He had a descent 2005 in the cards until Torre overworked him and killed his arm, which led to a horrible finish to his season. The over use then led to his shoulder troubles and surgery. I guess the Braves feel if he's healthy he can pick up where he left off for the Yankees. It is a gamble for a guy whos had 2, maybe 3 descent years in his career, but if it doesn't work out it won't hurt them much.
  16. Sparty isn't historically based. He was designed to resemble Jay Leno.
  17. Alex Trabek: ...and you wrote, the letter V. Well, I'll tell you what my friend, V is a roman numeral for 5, so you are in fact correct...
  18. Yanks may be interested: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/01/sports/baseball/01base.html?_r=1&ref=sports&oref=slogin
  19. Never played it regularly, but has appeared in 48 career games there.
  20. What about a guy like Bobby Kielty? Granted he's a .256 career hitter, but his career splits against lefties are .299/.382/.518, and would be a good platoon option for Jones, who can't hit lefty pitching. He probably wouldn't cost much and would be a good bench option. Also, we would have he and Murton as the red headed teammates.
  21. Sosa will be on the ESPN Sunday Conversation tomarrow at 11 ET for anyone who is interested.
