  1. I think the fountains beyong the outfield wall started pouring some out the otehr day.
  2. Agreed. I think it's unlikely JH will part with Izzy, but I prefer a middle infield of Giles/DeRosa as opposed to DeRosa/Izturis.
  3. This time for a guy who hasn't played in the majors since 2003:
  4. what the hell kind of offer is that? I agree. There is no way this is the best Hendry can get for Jones.
  5. wasn't newhan once highly regarded? i take it by your context that he no longer is (?) He's 33. Last year he had a line of .252/.294/.374 in 131 AB. The year before he had a line of .202/.279/.312 in 218 AB.
  6. This is what happens when the Cubs say they'll trade Jones for anything:
  7. There are actually two positions left. CF and SS. Don't forget 2B... Mark DeRosa? Yeah, 2B is still a hole. DeRosa isnt the greatest, but there arent many better options. I would have rather traded for Giles or something, but I wouldnt call 2B a hole, I'd say its more....meh. He's had over 300 AB twice in his career. Once he had an OBP of .293 and the other time was .357. I'd like to think he figured something out last year, but his second half was right around his rather pathetic career averages. I think he's being very overvalued based upon a fluke first half last year. I hope I'm wrong. Supposedly he worked with Michael Young last year and changed his batting stance and plate approach. I assume he can partially attribute his year to that.
  8. Yeah, Gil Meche and Octavio Dotel. Talk about your big difference makers.
  9. I always liked Jon Lieber. If it doesn't take much, I'd be for it.
  10. Yeah, I could have sworn he retired earlier in the year.
  11. HAHAHAHA....wow...just wow. It's times like these I wish there was a ROFL smiley. You have *GOT* to be kidding me. Now I see why Jim laid off. That's too much, even for us. What are the Royals doing? I think the Royals got inspiration to spend money after watching us. Though, I don't think they're off to a good start.
  12. You're likely to hear it made official here about 3 hours before you see it on cubs.com.
  13. I do believe Marquis is a better pitcher than he displayed last season. That being said, I still don't want him on the team, especially for the contract he'll most likely get.
  14. I recall that. Sigh, those were the good ole days.
  15. As if we've never gone into a season with a bunch of "ifs" before. I don't appreciate the eyeroll. Yes, we've gone into seasons with "ifs" before, but I think we're all setting ourselves up for a massive dissapointment. Soriano alone won't fix the lineup. We're status quo with Ramirez (but that's a good thing), and we added Lilly and Cotts to the pitching staff. Wowie. But looking at all these posts.... "IF Prior is healthy" and "IF Hill can pitch like he did in the 2nd half" and "IF Wood's shoulder can hold up" and "IF we can do better than Izturis and SS"... just far too many unknowns to be absolutely certain of any type of success this year. Last year was somewhat of the same thing. "IF Prior and Wood are healthy" and "IF Miller could come back and help the rotation" and "IF Pierre can be a good leadoff hitter" and "IF Dempster can prove he wasn't a fluke" and "IF Cedeno and Murton could repeat their rookie years" and so on and so forth. Granted, these are on a lesser scale than this year. I know what you're trying to say and I concur, but I'm also saying "ifs" are nothing new to this franchise.
  16. As if we've never gone into a season with a bunch of "ifs" before.
  17. Three lefties in the rotation? I don't think so. Hendrickson is very mediocre, and with the signing of Lilly, we need a #2-3 starter, not another #5 guy.
