  1. When I left this thread at around 6:30 EST, we were discussing the Soriano signing. I come back from a concert at about 11:30 and people are discussing Soriano's EqA on weed. What did I miss?
  2. July 31, 1998: Traded by the Chicago Cubs with Todd Noel (minors) and Kevin Orie to the Florida Marlins for Felix Heredia and Steve Hoff (minors). I remember being angry about that trade at the time...and I was only 11.
  3. The Cubs don't know what EqA is. They think someone just misspelled ERA.
  4. Now being reported on Yahoo: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AiZS4t3tPEYuiWoVMARvUYMRvLYF?slug=cubssoriano&prov=st&type=lgns
  5.   Since ther's no jaw-dropping emoticon, I settled for this one. Geez, I wanted him, but not for 8 years. I hope there are options in there or we'll be kicking ouselves in a few years. How much more room would there be in the budget to sign some starters, assuming this signing occurs?
  6. Maybe if we tell them that Roberto Novoa pitched for a team that went to the World Series, they'll bite.
  7. ...and the overpaying for relievers continues.
  8. How could you forget Elio's?
  9. Heck, for buying him the beers, you should be allowed to say what you want :D
  10. Florida Gonzalez. 8th inning hero Gonzalez retired this season IIRC.
  11. No, same Alex Gonzalez...I have been talking about the expo/marlin/bosox one. If you remember, Hendry has wanted him since when he was on the marlins. Leading up to the trade deadline he had talked about acquiring him from the expos many times. Yet somehow he wound up in boston and we got nomar. Not that it worked out the way it should have, but it was still a great trade. The Alex Gonzalez this thread is about never played for the Expos. He played only for the Marlins and then the Red Sox. In that trade, we traded our Alex Gonzalez to the Expos. The guy you are probably getting confused with is Orlando Cabrera, who went from the Expos to the Red Sox in that trade. Most Cubs fans thought Hendry would nab Cabrera, not Nomar.
  12. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060901&content_id=1640058&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Oh, alright, I'm mistaken. I don't know how productive he would be and how much money he'd want. He's not very mobile anymore, though he can't be too much worse an option than John Mabry.
  13. I wouldn't mind him back at the right price, but didn't he sorta burn the bridge after he left? Or am I mistaken?
  14. I guess this shows JH isn't the only one who likes players who can drive in runs with their glove. Seriously, compared to what Gonzalez is about to get, DeRosa was a slightly better bargain.
  15. It could be fictional. I doubt the Marlins would give up Willis for just that.
  16. My roommate said someone on the YES Network board heard on ESPN Radio that the Yanks and Marlins are discussing a Humberto Sanchez and Melky Cabrera for Dontrelle Willis swap. I don't how reliable the source is so I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but I just thought I'd post it anyway.
  17. Don't know if this was posted yet, but this is from Rotoworld:
  18. Both Koyie Hill and Ben Howard MIGHT be interesting to follow, but it depends on what they do in Spring Training. Is that the same John Webb that was with the Cubs a few yrs back? Yes, same John Webb. I always liked him.
  19. Definitely. That's the only way to put it.
  20. this has to catch on.. new NSBB shirts? ITSJHWD? I like the idea. :D
  21. Yes, please regarding Lee or Westbrook. They are both reliable AL pitchers and I think they would be just as good or better in the NL.
