  1. I'd more or less give him a C. He's performing much better than last season, but his numbers arent outstanding, with the exception of his SB totals. He looks like an average CF'er right now, thus the C rating.
  2. While it would be nice to have him on the bench, Catalanotto hasn't played CF in his 10-year major league career. Defensively, he's primarily a corner outfielder these days. He has played 2B though. What's stopping JH from signing him? :P Maybe it's the career .363 OBP. JH doesn't want any basecloggers on this team.
  3. Hey Derwood, the stadium is pretty nice, and I could walk there from my dorm. 8)
  4. Isn't one of Reed Johnson or Frank Catalanatto a FA? I wouldn't mind either in CF, as a platoon in RF, or off the bench.
  5. I'd go with picking up Williamson. That might just me being biased towards the Vikings ( :P ), but he has a chance to have a good season. He's fast and is a great deep threat, and with our weak wreceiving corps, Williamson is the #1 WR in Minny. Being in the NY area, I've also heard good things about Cotchery. Deion Branch should be solid too once he becomes active next week. Also, I'm not completely sold on Fred Taylor and I feel he's gonna show his age this year. Look into getting a better backup at RB.
  6. I don't see how Pods is an upgrade over Pierre, minues the OBP. They both are fast, they both have no power, and they both are average in the field. Jenkins is also a no. He's injury prone and we have enough injuries on this team. Granted, he's descent if he's not hurt, but that a significant IF. I'm also pretty sure that if he was on the team, it would decrease Murton's playing time. We're better off with Jock.
  7. Well, this proves it. Even though we've been told so already, the release of Dmitri Young was strictly b/c of clubhouse behavior.
  8. So you're saying he'll be a cub. Yeah, virtually. It wouldn't surprise me if JH inked him to a deal as his "big bat" offseason acqusition.
  9. I wouldn't mind him, but he seems like an AL type player. As vance said, he could get time at DH in the AL, whereas in the NL, he'd only be able to play first. Not that I wouldn't mind him for the bench, but I think the Royals plan to stick with him. He's cheap, he's productive, and they probably want him to supplant Mike Sweeney at 1B/DH. With Shealy and Teahan, the Royals would have some good, young, cheap production at the corners.
  10. No thanks. He's on his last legs. I expect his OPS to be sub .750 next year. He's not worth it, as he'll probably want a multi-year deal. Now, if he was willing to accept a one year $3 mil deal, I'd say platoon him with Jones/ have him off the bench. However, theres no way that happens.
  11. Update! From Rotoworld: Dmitri Young-DH- Tigers Sep. 14 - 9:51 am et Dmitri Young has reportedly decided not to play for another team this season. Young was released by the Tigers earlier this month, reportedly because he had become a problem in the clubhouse. Expect him to get plenty of chances next season, because he can still hit. Source: Detroit Free Press
  12. You reffering to his 2 walks, today? Three! Hmm, maybe Freddie reads this site. I wonder if he could talk Dusty and JH into doing the same.
  13. IIRC, it was Sosa for Soriano, Nick Johnson, Ricky Ledee, and I think Ted Lilly. Just imagine if we had pulled that off.
  14. I think it might take a little more than that, maybe throw in a mid level pitching prospect, but I would love to see Michael Young in Cubbie blue.
  15. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/hotsheet/262386.html Fox is in the team photo, and Bobby Hill is Blast From the Past after his terrific performance for Team USA.
  16. Per Rotoworld: Dmitri Young-DH- Tigers Sep. 8 - 7:18 am et According to a Detroit News source, Dmitri Young was released by the Tigers because he was a "growing cancer." The source described Young as "someone who cared too much about himself, and not enough about the team." The official party line in Detroit is that Young was cut for performance-related issues, but that's hard to swallow given that he hit over .290 since returning in July. Source: Detroit News I guess this answers our questions about why he was released. What's the over/under as to when our boy Hendry gobbles him up?
  17. Lest we also forget the Tigers also have Casey and Shelton at first/ DH and Granderson, Thames, Monroe, and Ordonez in the OF. It seemed like a logjam, and he wasn't going to get much playing time. Also, IIRC, he's due to earn about $8-9 mil next year, which is an awful lot for a bench player.
  18. Does anyone know where I could find the video of BBTN's all time Cubs web gems, or at least a video clip of Sarge Jr's catch that was number 2 on the list? ESPN.com doesnt have it, and neither does youtube, unless I missed something.
  19. The link to the story about the Cubs victory today over the Giants: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AurrgLO03hUmbfv2HtXy2L0RvLYF?gid=260305116&prov=ap ooops
  20. per Rotoworld: Scott McClain-1B-Athletics Sep. 1 - 3:13 pm et Veteran third baseman Scott McClain was named the Pacific Coast League's MVP on Thursday. McClain, 34, won the honors despite a .252/.312/.464 line in 532 at-bats. All that really mattered apparently was that he had 106 RBI. Portland's Jon Knott and Jack Cust and Tucson's Alberto Callaspo were among several players who would have been better choices. There was a time not long ago that McClain would have been a fine bench player or stopgap third baseman in the majors. However, he's past his prime now, and it's unlikely that he'll have a legitimate chance of making a team next spring.
  21. b/c he can play multiple positions and he can catch the ball
  22. Per Rotoworld: Glendon Rusch - Relief Pitcher Aug. 21 - 9:27 am et Glendon Rusch (tennis elbow) is close to being able to rejoin the Cubs. Rusch was able to be activated from the disabled list on Aug. 18, but he needed a few more days to heal. He could rejoin the Cubs bullpen during this week. Source: Chicago Sun-Times
  23. Yeah, you had it backwards..I was the one with Giambi. oops
  24. If he can hit like he can sing, I think we're golden. :D BTW, the Black Crowes are awesome.
  25. It is possible. A few years back we had another crappy lefty we got someone to take off our hands in a waiver trade in August. He went by the name of Jeff Fassero.
