  1. If that's the case why bother? Why bring him back for the last month of the season? We already know what he can do, I would rather them play the kids and let Miller waste the rest of his year rehabbing. The genreal consensus is that no one is certain if his velocity has fully returned. He has shown in his rehab starts that his velocity isn't up to par with what it was before his surgery. There is a chance the Cubs might release him at the end of the season if he isn't recovered yet.
  2. Per Rotoworld: Wade Miller-S- Cubs Aug. 10 - 8:37 am et Wade Miller (shoulder) will make a start Double-A West Tennessee on Friday. Miller pitched well during his last rehab start so hopefully he can have a good outing on Friday. He will like need a few more quality rehab starts before the Cubs will consider activating him from the disabled list. Source: Chicago Sun-Times
  3. ...that come August, we would play a series in which our starters were Carlos Marmol, Angel Guzman, and Rich Hill?
  4. This is starting to turn into a thread belonging in the fantasy forum.
  5. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/stats/player.php?id=502533 Granted, it's his first season and its only at short season, but he is tearing it up at Boise. What are his projections/ potential? I assume we should wait to see what he can do at the higher leagues until we label him as a "prospect", but those are pretty good numbers.
  6. Berkman, Beltran, Rivera. Dunn, Lee, Sizemore Dye, Miggy Cabrera, and Corey Patterson #-o
  7. Wilson I wouldn't mind at all. I'd like to see him in a Cub uniform. The same goes for Melky. The kid has potential and is fairly young too, and has good plate discipline, especially for his age at the major league level. I watch him play all the time b/c I'm right in Yankee territory, and he could be a star. The Yanks won't have room for him as a starter though, unless Bernie retires, Sheffield leaves as a FA, and Matsui or Abreu becomes the DH. I would like him on the team, but the Yankees won't give him up. They've learned their lesson about giving uip young players. Three years ago we could have gotten him, but not now unless we offer the Yankees Carlos Zambrano, which is out of the question. Quinlin is interesting. Yes, he can his, but he dosn't take too many walks. As far as I'm concerned, he is no more than an adequate utility player. That said, I would prefer him next year over Mabry again. The fact that Quinlin can play 1B, 3B, and OF is helpful, and he's younger, a better hitter, and probably cheaper than Mabry. Your thinking isn't that bad, but a starting outfield of Wilson, Cabrera, and Quinlin isn't a very strong one.
  8. Let's assume you are right and that is the rotation. Let's also assume that the payroll is around $100M. Then, Hendry will still have approx. $24M that he can spend - what's/who's he spending it on? Unfortuantely, he'll probably give Bynum and Blanco Neifi-like extensions, give Pierre a 3 year extension worth about $20 mil and put the rest in his pocket, saying we look like a good team.
  9. I was browsing through past deadline deals on baseballreference.com and found this: July 25, 2001 (Standings) The Kansas City Royals traded Jermaine Dye to the Colorado Rockies for Neifi Perez. Think we should make that deal now?
  10. Yes, they are both very good defensively, and we now have one of the best fielding middle infields in the NL. However, they both struggle at the plate. On a team with good offense, it would be easy to hide players like Ronny and Izturis in the lineup. We don't have a great offense, so therefore, while our defensive improves, the offense continues to get worse. This trade also increases the chances that one oif Neifi, Izturis, and Cedeno will be batting in the 2 hole on a regular basis.
  11. Supposedly, the Mets turned around and dealt the newly acquired Perez and Heath Bell for Linebrink. EDIT: per Rotoworld- Scott Linebrink-R- Padres Jul. 31 - 5:34 pm et Scott Linebrink wasn't traded to the Mets or any other team prior to Monday's deadline. The rumored deal of Oliver Perez and Heath Bell for Linebrink likely was discussed, but it wasn't finalized. Linebrink will stay with the Padres as a setup man. There's no way he'll go in a waiver deal.
  12. On the bright side, Izturis is a good defender and a GG winner IIRC. On the not so bright side, Maddux also has won a GG (15 actually, or is it 16?)and hes probably a better hitter than Izturis.
  13. Wilson. Which one? Craig. Good trade for the Yanks.
  14. ESPN News reports the Yankees traded Shawn Chacon to the Pirates. No news yet on who they got in return.
  15. I don't know if this was posted here, but according to Rotoworld, the Dbacks approached the Cubs late last night about Maddux. Rotoworld also says that Hendry is demanding two top prospects for Maddux.
  16. This is just a thought i had so dont attack me for it, and i doubt it will happen but here it goes: The O's are shopping Tejada. Ronny hasn't been hiting well at all and is showing almost no patience at the plate. The Yankees are looking for another bat and a SP. Therefore, this is what I propose: Cubs get Miguel Tejada Yankees get Greg Maddux and Todd Walker Orioles get Ronny Cedeno, Shawn Chacon, and prospects from the Cubs and Yankees. We get Tejada, and he helps the offense, and helps our chances for next season. The Yankees get their bat in Walker who is ver versatile, which is what they were looking for when they tried to acquire Betemit. They also get Maddux to help their rotation. The Orioles dump Tejada, and get a pitcher in the process who could help out (yes, his stats are terrible, but then again, the O's staff isn't exactly great either). However, one of the few snags this deal would have is that the Orioles won't take just anyone for Tejada, obviously. A Marmol or a Tabata might have to be thrown in there. Then there would be the arguement of how much salary will be taken on by the aforementioned teams involved in the deal. I don't know. I'm just thinking aloud here, and maybe it's very wishful thinking.
  17. There tend to be a lot of these threads or topics or what ever you wanna call them, asking around what happened to ex Cub farm hands and such. Just as an idea, why not make a sticky thread for these such questions. It makes things a bit easier. What do the mods think?
  18. The guy is on pace for 37 HRs and 134 RBIs, while hitting over .280. How was this guy not an all star?
  19. ...do these moves make me look smart, or did I get lucky? drafted Jim Thome in 9th round (10 team league) traded Matt Clement for Jermaine Dye Not too shabby if u ask me. I now just traded Coco Crisp for Jonny Gomes. I figure I don't need Crisp's SBs anymore, b/c I picked CPatt on FA a while back, and I could use a little more power. What do you guys think?
  20. Billy Mueller, Jon Lieber, Flash Gordon, Mark Bellhorn, Ricky Gutierez (is he still active?)
  21. Source? and if true, the Nats actually score pretty big here. Clayton is old and not very good. Harris, though I still like him, projects only as a backup. Majewski and Bray could be good relivers and I don't know much about Thompson. However, Lopez is an all-star, Wagner could turn into a closer, and Kearns has lots of potential.
  22. How did Eric and Jae do at the Futures Game?
  23. C- Barrett 1B- Derrek Lee, Andy Phillips, Ross Gload 2B- Mark Bellhorn SS- Brendan Harris 3B- Billy Mueller OF- Bobby Kielty, Matt Murton, Bubba Crosby, Matt Holliday, Gabe Kapler, Raul Ibanez SP- Zanbrano, Prior, Wood, Jon Lieber, Matt Clement (looks familiar doesnt it?), Barry Zito RP- Dempster, Huston Street (try telling me that's not a cool name)
  24. Stay retired Sammy. Only a matter of time before Hendry inks himm to a deal. I can see the press release now. "Cubs get older, resign Maddux and Sosa. Cubs GM Jim Hendry says he is very happy with these two moves. 'I feel our organization has overall improved with the signing of the two guys.' In unrelated news, new studies confirm that Hell will not freeze over anytime soon."
  25. Does it say anywhere on the blog site what the source is? If it doesn't then I see no point in talking about this. The Yankees won't do it unless they get an offer they can't refuse, and I know that Cashman would want us to include Z in the deal, which is out of the question.
