http://wintermeetings.mlblogs.com/nashvilleconfidential/2007/12/waiting_for_the.html Bout time! Didn't the mets already trade for a couple catchers why do they want another one? Minaya sees what the Hendry is doing with second basemen, and wants to do the same with catchers.
It's not that bad. Cubs need: Starting SS Good backup catcher with clean bill of health (as an insurance policy for Soto) Jim Hendry "needs": Left-handed/switch hitters People who can run Replacements for our .791 OPS and .790 OPS cheap 2B and RF Lou Piniella "needs": RHSP so we wont have three lefties in our rotation Sounds about right
So, the O's will do a Marlin and dump Tejada and his salary on whomever can get Bedard? If Tejada is being considered a payroll dump to the O's I'd hope Hendry is already on the phone. Bruce has said Tejada's contract is too big and the O's aren't willing to pick up a huge chunk of it.
Shapiro says he likes the team's SP depth, might not trade any of them. Doesn't like FA, tries to avoid it. Happy with CC and Fausto. Happy he won't have to face Santana as often. Added that biggest things that could positively happen are own players improving.
Taking about Fuku now. Say Cubs are clear front runner and want him badly (we all know that). Latest they've heard is that he wants to come to the US, but other teams who don't want to overpay for Rowand or Jones may get in on him.
