  1. So he took one year, 10 mil after a bad year, then had a better season and took another one year pact for even less money. Are we sure Boras is still his agent?
  2. Would trading Soriano and picking up that much salary in a deal with the Yanks, perhaps for Hughes be a likely option? Taking Hughes back, we'd have to pick up 16 mil per year of Sori's contract to make it worth their while. And at that point, is it worth it for us? They might insist on taking Burnett back. And as Rob said, they have Andruw Jones. I guess they're not keen on making him DH. Would be smart for them to just find a cheap platoon partner for him and be done with it.
  3. I like it. Could be a cool feature.
  4. Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore for Bartolo Colon
  5. Hey if they think they can be, who are we to stop them from selling the farm for Garza?
  6. I guess the Yanks realized how bad their rotation was gonna be this year. Big night for them.
  7. rizzo is far from a sure thing. i like him, but i can easily see him being a bust. i definitely don't view him as a sure thing where you don't consider fielder if his price comes down. I just have all the same concerns as everyone with his weight and below-average defense. If he'd take a 2-3 year deal I wouldn't be against it, but I can't see him going for that. One of my friends guessed Fielder goes to the Yankees now since they traded away their DH, but I don't see it happening since they want to be under the luxury tax for a change.
  8. Rizzo is gonna be our first baseman. If Fielder wants a one-year deal (which he won't since he turned that down from the Brewers), then maybe there's a chance.
  9. This was ion the Misc FA thread but probably deserves its own. Big trade for both teams. Yankees need pitching badly, and the Mariners' crop of good young hitters keeps growing. There are supposedly more players involved.
  10. Glad to have Kerry back. Definitely one of my favorite Cubs. We need help in the pen, even if it is a "rebuilding" year.
  11. Kevin Goldstein adds via Twitter that he has no idea who it is, but every prospect in their system was on the table at or point. Sounds interesting. Rumblings that it's Michael Pineda to the Yanks for Montero
  12. I'd have to assume somebody is getting traded, be it Garza or Soriano. At least we won't have any rotation depth issues this year. It'll be nice not seeing Casey Coleman trotted out every 5th day for two months.
  13. I know, it's Rogers. And it's just speculation I think the FO would prefer a young arm, ala Z for Volstad, but what would the reaction here be if this came to fruition? Is there anyone to buy lower on than Roberts? If he has a revival, he'd be good trade bait.
  14. Unless they have a deal in place for Dempster or Garza, I don't see why we'd still be willing to give possibly $10 mil to another back-end starter when we just acquired two of them in trades.
  15. I love when trades just come out of nowhere like this. I was a big Cashner fan (and the Cashner bobblehead on my desk at work will make me a bit sad). But Rizzo is our first baseman of the future and is a stellar talent. When you can get a potential star first baseman for a relief pitcher, you have to jump on that. I also like the potential Cates has, too. Good trade.
  16. Oh for eff's sake. I'll hold judgement til the facts come out but this blows.
  17. I mean, probably in two years when Howard can't do anything but hit homers, Rollins declines even more rapidly and Utley's knees become Jello. They've emptied most of their system and aren't set up to compete in a couple years unless they keep spending money. This year, they'll finish ahead of the Nats, they did well last year without much of an offense and they'll do it again.
  18. Damn, guess we're gonna have to acquire Chris Volstad then.
  19. I'm meh on this trade. Volstad was at one point a top draft pick and decent prospect. He's still fairly young so maybe he just hasn't broken out yet. Also, weren't there rumblings that Matt Dominguez was being included in the trade too or did that not pan out?
  20. Gonna pull a B2B move here for the first time, so just stay with me. Cubs get: Rizzo, Turner, Smyly Tigers get: Garza, Byrd Padres get: Porcello, Tigers prospect Cubs get their first baseman and two high upside starters. Tigers get Garza and some outfield insurance. Padres get a starter they could plug into their rotation to make up somewhat for the loss of Latos. And playing in Petco could help his numbers. Laugh away.
  21. Oh man if we get Turner, Castellanos and more I'll be thrilled. The ball is in our court and someone is gonna cave.
  22. Good trade by the Sox, especially since Sweeney is kinda underrated. If that's all it took to get Bailey, it somewhat dampens my hopes in a Marmol trade.
  23. Meh. I really don't know what they have left in their system and have emptied most of it out. I'm sure we could get a way better package from the Yanks, Jays or Tigers.
  24. Back home, he is compared to Dustin Pedroia, the similar-in-size Boston Red Sox All-Star second baseman — and nobody laughs. In fact, scouts do not think Torreyes’s stature will hinder his rise to the major leagues and, incredibly, nobody with a trained eye seems to put it past him to make a name for himself at the highest level. I would definitely take that. As much as I hated to see Marshall go, I love this trade in our favor.
