  1. Not bad. They've got a pretty crowded OF/DH spot right now.
  2. Odd that no one bothered claiming him. I think he is still a decent backup infielder. He'll be back in the majors at some point this season.
  3. Phew. He's not awful depth to have (Ok, he might be) but he makes little sense when we just retained Rodrigo Lopez for the same reason. Good to see another team took the bait.
  4. I went away for a few days and expected to come back to more euphoria. This blows.
  5. Anybody see this? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-cubs-could-be-closing-in-on-cuban-of-soler-20120213,0,3899310.story
  6. Wowww, that came outta nowhere. At least he didn't sign with the Marlins, that provides some enjoyment. We could've beaten that offer, so Theo and Jed must not have approved. I'm assuming we shell out for Soler, who's the one I preferred all along.
  7. Two and three aren't far-fetched. One and four on the other hand...
  8. Which is why I said at the beginning of the offseason. The trade makes little sense for either team now.
  9. At the beginning of the offseason I would've been all for some kind of Soriano for Burnett trade, or just taking him on if the Yanks picked up most of his salary. But now, given our direction and full rotation, it makes no sense.
  10. Random thought, but does anyone think DeWitt may be the Theo compensation?
  11. I haven't heard a projection yet. My guess with his age and experience level, he would start at Peoria. But if he impresses at spring training (assuming he'll be there), he could go to Daytona, but I doubt it. Goldstein: If he's already done well in a league that's supposedly equivalent of high-A or AA, then that doesn't make sense. He's 18. There's no rush. Start him in High-A and go from there.
  12. He was pretty bad the last two years but had a 3.62 ERA from 2007-09. A decent depth move if he puts it back together.
  13. Add John Lannan in the mix if they don't trade him. He's been a quietly decent lefty starter the past few years. On paper, they have a surprisingly solid rotation going into the season. Let's see if they all stay healthy for a change.
  14. I hope it malfunctions and burns the stadium to the ground. I hope it malfunctions and they can't turn it off. That would be fantastic. Though either of these is fine with me. The Marlins are an abomination.
  15. Glad he's their problem now. In all seriousness, he's not a good GM but he is a pretty likable guy so glad to see he got a job somewhere.
  16. Was there a reason to bump this thread? He signed a one year deal with the Rays two weeks ago
  17. He's been a quietly decent lefty reliever for some time now. He could be an effective LOOGY or he could be insurance in case of injury. I've got no problem with this.
  18. Should've realized arguing with know-it-alls on the internet goes nowhere. Enjoy your party
  19. He was a football coach, not a messiah (which yes, I know some PSU people would have you believe). What happened sucked but really? He didn't rape kids and it's hard to put yourself in that kinda situation and say you would have acted immaculately.
  20. Yes, it is too bad. He had a terrible lapse in judgment. Doesn't mean anyone should be happy he's dead. Never said I was happy he's dead. The thing that bugs me now is how everyone is canonizing St. JoePa as the greatest man who ever lived. Holy hyperbole
  21. He did? He went to the AD, which is not the same as going to the police. How a "good man" could live with himself knowing what he was allowing to continue, I have no idea. He went to the campus police, which actually has more power than most college campus police corps. And Sandusky had been off his staff for three years at that point. He wasn't keeping tabs on him to know if he was on campus or not. Were people not actually paying attention to this story or just believing what ESPN told them to believe? As Derwood said, you can feel how you want about it, but don't wish ill on a man who just passed away. He wasn't a child rapist.
  22. The Sox are now going into the season with Mike Aviles and Nick Punto platooning at short. Woof.
  23. A good coach and a good man (I don't care what the smart@sses, say, he was a good guy and he did actually go to the police). He'll be missed.
  24. As much as I'd rather trade Soriano, it sees like at that price they'd have more interest in trading for Byrd. That's a lot of money to eat, but if it gets us a better prospect (and helps facilitate a Garza deal for Turner and more) then I think I'd be ok with it.
