  1. how about just sign giles so you don't have to give up players. cripes.
  2. What bidding war? Between the Cubs and Braves? If he reports are to be believed, the Yanks and others are involved in the Giles sweepstakes. I'd say that's very different than the Furcal situation. The Mets are involved. If you are willing to even consider a 5/50 for Furcal, but won't get in on the Giles talks while the numbers are still in the 3/30 range, you're just a plain old incompetent GM. exactly. why is 5/50 ok for a career .757 OPS, but 3/30ish is not ok for a career .955 OPS? nonsense. i guess hendry only wants to get in a bidding war if it's against himself. Because OPS isn't all there is in baseball. Because defense is important up the middle. See Chicago White Sox. Because Furcal is an excellent defensive player at an important defensive position who's just coming into his prime while Giles doesn't play an important defensive position and is past his prime. homeruns are important in the lineup. see chicago white sox. there's no way furcal's defense is that much better than cedeno's to make up for the 200 point difference in OPS between he and giles. it's not like the alternative to not signing furcal is leaving the ss position open and the cubs playing w/ 8 guys on the field.
  3. The two main rumored targets for leadoff are Furcal and Pierre. Walker had a better OBP than both of them in 2005. Not to mention that he'll make signifcantly less money than Furcal and at least $1.5 million less than Pierre. His career OBP is the exact same as Furcal. Get an impact bat and let Walker leadoff. If you can get an impact bat AND a legitmate leadoff hitter, great. If not, the impact bat should be the priority. it's ridiculous. walker (2b) + cedeno (ss) + giles (rf) or furcal (ss) + cedeno (2b) + encarnacion/j jones/floyd (rf) the first option is soooo much better than the second it's ridiculous. not to mention the fact that the second option would include a long term, big money contract and the possibility of giving up talent in a trade. it's beyond me how hendry can't justify giving giles $10 mil/year, but he has no problem giving that kind of money to a far inferior player (and one that doesn't fill a hole in the field).
  4. What is the conspiracy? that he's the board martyr and we're all trying to bring him down.
  5. seriously. it's a winter tradition -- hendry signs a reliever that will eventually fall apart to a three year deal.
  6. giles would never dress up like a superhero at a hockey game. giles = not a good clubhouse guy.
  7. Of course, he's won a division title in every season of his career. and you can be damn sure that he catches the crap out of that ball.

  9. does this officially end the 'leicester for closer' bandwagon?
  10. i've been on the wilkerson wagon since last offseason. i'd soooo rather have him than pierre.
  11. i wouldn't have a problem w/ that combo at all. the problem is, the cubs seem dead set on trading walker. and if walker somehow did stay, i feel like like baker would want to play neifi and his good glove over cedeno to offset walker's perceived defensive weaknesses.
  12. man, if furcal doesn't sign, the cubs are gonna be in trouble. hendry better not get caught up waiting to deal w/ one guy (like he did last winter w/ sosa), only to see all the other options go elsewhere. a cedeno-neifi middle infield is not going to get it done.
  13. you know, i like len, but i kinda miss chip and his cheesy nerdiness. that clip also reminded me how much i couldn't stand joe carter. wow.
  14. he said he's been studying physics, medicine, and general anatomy all fall so he can figure out how to 'fix' his mechanics. he's enrolled in med school at rush.
  15. And ignore the fact that Furcal is 5 years younger, can play a good SS and is a very good base stealer. Walker meanwhile will be 33 on opening day, and is at best an average second baseman. Also the last two seasons where Walker has had over 500 plate appearances his OPS has been .784 and .761. In 2003 Furcal put up a .795 OPS while stealing 25 bases (in 27 attempts) while Walker put up a .761 OPS in Boston. I don't like the fact that they're booting an inexpensive Walker either, but it's ridiculous to compare their salaries based solely on last year's OPS. furcal is certainly better than walker, but there's no way i'm giving furcal that kind of money...especially when ss isn't a necessity. is furcal + cedeno really 7.5 mil (not to mention the years committment) better than walker + cedeno? you take that 7.5 mil + neifi's 2.5 mil + rusch's $3 mil and you can possibly sign yourself brian giles.
  16. boot walker, his $2.5 mil salary and .829 OPS for furcal, his $10 mil salary and his .777 OPS? um...no thanks.
  17. Have you fixed your bad mechanics so you won't get injured again? Isn't it Ironic that you joked/took a stab at Steve Stone criticizing your mechanics earlier in the year by saying "Maybe someone can teach me better Mechanics, I don't know", and then later in the year you were shut down YET AGAIN!!? When you go down again next year, will you please stay in the 8th inning, because that's the only way you can actually help this team. Would you please waive your non trade clause to get traded so you don't ruin another one of our chances with your injuries? feel free to use any one of those. . . why is it that people expect wood to be able to 'fix' his broken mechanics? if his mechanics are bad and are the cause of his injury, complain about the coaching staff failing to fix them, not a guy in his mid 20s w/ no coaching/mechanic fixing experience. it's not like rothschild has the magic key to fix the problem but wood has refused to use it.
  18. what kind of tough question were you wanting to ask?
  19. are you talking about madson? if so, he may be points exempt, i guess i didn't even think about it. it just threw me off since he was listed on the minor league roster where he's not eligible to be. sorry for confusing you. :D
  20. i don't know why the previous owner always had madson as a minor leaguer...he doesn't come close to qualifying. so i think you'll have to drop him...
  21. If you have a problem with it stop reading the posts then. It is blatantly obvious that Hendry indeed is a moron after he signs Neifi to a 2 year 5 mil contract. What do you want us to do hold hands and jump for joy? Always look the other way when a GM single-handely is imploding the organization? Maybe Hendry can read these posts and finally realize the idiotic moves he has been making. he's right...hendry's awesome. all those world series rings tell you all you need to know.
  22. he's the one guy w/ a bit of a tude that the cubs weren't able to unload. once he's gone, it's going to be like a church choir in that clubhouse. next up, 115 wins. and bundles of hugs.
  23. Thanks but now I'm confused. Hendry said that Perez and Cedeno would battle for 2nd base. Why is there no mention of Walker Bruce? I think you can guess the answer to that. They have every intention of trading Walker. if (when) walker is traded, he is going to tear the cubs a new one...you can book that. 1) he said that if the cubs were going to trade him, he'd rather they didn't pick up his option so he could choose where to play 2) he's a loudmouth 3) he no doubt (correctly) thinks it's crazy to play neifi instead of him. should make for some good quotes.
  24. I wonder what Neifi will do for the talent portion of the contest. obviously catch the ball. or get on base 29% of the time.
