  1. i'd rather watch nolasco give up eight runs than jimmy anderson give up two.
  2. the cubs missed the playoffs a bunch of times w/ ernie banks too. if only jim leyritz was available to trade banks for.
  3. yeah, ortiz should know something about what it's like to be overrated.
  4. slappy mcsingle for pierre.
  5. Bruce, nice article today about Tejada. I just hope that Hendry shares your enthusiasm. Do you think Hendry views Tejada as someone that the Cubs would be willing to part with "untouchables"? http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=130468 Oh, I think so. Hendry just should have signed Tejada after the 03 season, and gotten rid of Alex Gonzalez, even if he had to pay him to play for someone else. That move still irks me. Did he even try? You would think he would have had a good shot with his good buddy Sosa still on the team then, along with Alou and Ramirez. no kidding.
  6. I don't know if anyone is saying that. The future ones MIGHT work out, but by looking at the past we can see that is far from a lock. no kidding. that's the way it is in every system. people act like the cubs system is the only one w/ flops.
  7. i like when people justify trading prospects by throwing out names of all the cub busts and how they've never amounted to anything. never mind zambrano, garland, dontrelle, and other guys that have panned out.
  8. needless to say, i'm not nearly as excited about going to see the i-cubs as i was last week.
  9. yeah, he's a dick.
  10. agreed. i don't think there's any way the cubs are going to pay him.
  11. how does this guy have a job to write about sports? the cubs would have the worst OF in baseball w/ pierre, murton and taveras. http://www.suntimes.com/output/deluca/cst-spt-deluca092.html
  12. yeah, but the cubs ain't getting either of those guys.
  13. If true, then the market for Walker is really drying up. That could be a blessing in disguise. True, but Walker, if traded properly, could help us net a corner OF. everyone keeps saying that, but who is that corner OF gonna be? the reds don't need to clear a spot in their OF, so dunn & kearns are likely staying. the phils don't need walker (w/ utley there) so he's not gonna get you abreu. and now the dodgers don't need walker, so you ain't getting bradley for walker. the only possible fit i see is sending him to texas for mench (bad) or wilkerson (less bad, maybe even good). hendry may just be forced to keep a cheap, productive middle infielder.
  14. good points, craig. especially so when you consider that the cubs are going to have to pay, BIG, BIG money to prior and zambrano soon. they're gonna need some cheap pitching (if they want to keep those two) or they're gonna need to raise payroll substantially. hill was 91-92ish when i saw him in iowa. problem is, the gun in des moines is pretty iffy, so i based those readings on the scoreboard reading and some over the shoulder peeking at the guys in the stands charting. i'm anxious to see where he's at in the spring.
  15. i think it's been established here that every baseball player owes every fan at least one autograph.
  16. yeah, somebody said they should name a stadium after walker and that tejada should be banished from the game. no, i really don't think anyone said that.
  17. Because he isn't really that great of an offensive player. We got slightly less production from Walker last year that we would probably get from Tejada this year. Just because he plays a positon were offense is scarce doesn't mean we should overpay for him, especially if it is possible to upgrade more cheaply at another position. What were his numbers last year? No way is he comparable to Walker. Tejada last year: 304/.349/.515/.864 Walker last year: .305/.355/.474/.829 Try RBI's and HR's. Selective use of numbers is meaningless. NO ONE in baseball would try to equate Todd Walker being the equal to Tejada. seriously...post of the day. you say, 'try rbi's and hr's.' then the VERY NEXT SENTENCE you say selective use of numbers is meaningless. was it hard to type that w/ a straight face? Don't you feel all numbers are important? obviously. it's just pretty damn funny to see someone call a poster out on using selective numbers and then select the two numbers that help your argument the most.

  19. does something that was more than likely made up really deserve this much attention?
  20. and if hendry is so hot to trade walker, it should be for wilkerson, not mench. walker + williams/minor leaguer for wilkerson.
  21. mirabelli for loretta -- espn news.
