  1. how does this guy have a job to write about sports? the cubs would have the worst OF in baseball w/ pierre, murton and taveras. http://www.suntimes.com/output/deluca/cst-spt-deluca092.html
  2. yeah, but the cubs ain't getting either of those guys.
  3. If true, then the market for Walker is really drying up. That could be a blessing in disguise. True, but Walker, if traded properly, could help us net a corner OF. everyone keeps saying that, but who is that corner OF gonna be? the reds don't need to clear a spot in their OF, so dunn & kearns are likely staying. the phils don't need walker (w/ utley there) so he's not gonna get you abreu. and now the dodgers don't need walker, so you ain't getting bradley for walker. the only possible fit i see is sending him to texas for mench (bad) or wilkerson (less bad, maybe even good). hendry may just be forced to keep a cheap, productive middle infielder.
  4. good points, craig. especially so when you consider that the cubs are going to have to pay, BIG, BIG money to prior and zambrano soon. they're gonna need some cheap pitching (if they want to keep those two) or they're gonna need to raise payroll substantially. hill was 91-92ish when i saw him in iowa. problem is, the gun in des moines is pretty iffy, so i based those readings on the scoreboard reading and some over the shoulder peeking at the guys in the stands charting. i'm anxious to see where he's at in the spring.
  5. i think it's been established here that every baseball player owes every fan at least one autograph.
  6. yeah, somebody said they should name a stadium after walker and that tejada should be banished from the game. no, i really don't think anyone said that.
  7. Because he isn't really that great of an offensive player. We got slightly less production from Walker last year that we would probably get from Tejada this year. Just because he plays a positon were offense is scarce doesn't mean we should overpay for him, especially if it is possible to upgrade more cheaply at another position. What were his numbers last year? No way is he comparable to Walker. Tejada last year: 304/.349/.515/.864 Walker last year: .305/.355/.474/.829 Try RBI's and HR's. Selective use of numbers is meaningless. NO ONE in baseball would try to equate Todd Walker being the equal to Tejada. seriously...post of the day. you say, 'try rbi's and hr's.' then the VERY NEXT SENTENCE you say selective use of numbers is meaningless. was it hard to type that w/ a straight face? Don't you feel all numbers are important? obviously. it's just pretty damn funny to see someone call a poster out on using selective numbers and then select the two numbers that help your argument the most.

  9. does something that was more than likely made up really deserve this much attention?
  10. and if hendry is so hot to trade walker, it should be for wilkerson, not mench. walker + williams/minor leaguer for wilkerson.
  11. mirabelli for loretta -- espn news.
  12. i'd have guessed the brewers would get more than that. glad i have prince on my fantasy team. :D
  13. welcome to the league...one of your top keepers just got traded from a great hitters' park to a hitting graveyard. ouch! i realize that i just jinxed myself into blalock being traded to florida, seattle or washington, by the way.

    Bored...

We've always made pre-draft deals before. See the machinations that Adam made last year to improve draft position.... Now I agree that this might be a bit early. ;) yeah, i traded my ass off to get matsui. and i traded for sheets, lee and ollie. hope my title won't be taken away...
  15. just like that willis guy...hey, you gotta take chances!

nah...i think i'll be able to nab howry w/ my late first round pick.
  17. sweeney at 900 k sure beats mabry at 1 mil.
  18. What production did we have in CF last year? Did we upgrade? YES. What production did we have in RF last year, will we upgrade? YES. Did will totally whoop the Cards and Stros last year? YES. Did we loose to bad teams last year? YES. Making some changes, getting rid of a few players, and adding a few different guys to our core is going to bring some positive things next year. I have a good feeling, I'm sorry I just have a good feeling and that's as much as I can argue right there. I do think we need another pitcher though, you can't count on Wood and we need another strong starter to compliment Zambrono and Prior. who cares what we did against the cards and the astros in a limited amount of games? clearly the cubs weren't better than them, regardless of what they did over the span of 15 games or whatever. i'm not doubting that pierre is an upgrade over patterson, or that bradley/wilkerson is an upgrade over burnitz. but the cubs finished in fourth place twenty some games behind the cardinals...i don't think that they are a few minor upgrades away from leaping over three teams.
  19. I think they can. If it's true they had about $20-$22 mil before Pierre then they still have around $15 mil salary. If you move Patterson, Walker, Williams ect. . for your other trades then you have another $5-$7 mil added to that. We could get a power RF and still get another starter. who's that power RF gonna be? i've all but given up hope of dunn/abreu? what other power RF's are out there to be had? it's not like there's a giles or vlad sitting there on the FA market ripe for the picking. i could have lived w/ two B outfielders (wilkerson, bradley, etc). i could have lived w/ a C outfielder (pierre) coupled w/ an A outfielder (dunn, abreu). i'm not so hot on a B + C (ie pierre + bradley, pierre + wilkerson). I hear ya, but I'd be happy with Pierre - Wilkerson so long as we get a Washburn - Millwood and never have Neifi as a starter. i don't think washburn's going to make me feel any better about the lack of offensive production in the OF. i don't think the cubs need to get another starter at this point.

  21. isn't walker for bradley kind of a wash? especially when you consider that neifi could be the 2b? and i don't know why LA would want walker anyway... i'd have been happy w/ wilkerson + bradley or pierre + abreu/dunn/some other stud. but i don't know if pierre + kearns/bradley/wilkerson is enough...
  22. i had kind of come around a bit on furcal, but, at the same time the contract he got from la was crazy. i hope you're right about pierre playing well in a contract year...hadn't thought about that. but i wonder if it will be a contract year for long...hendry could try and lock him up for a while before the season starts.
